I just thought this up! You know the game mafia that has been roaming around recently? What if you could transfer these concepts to DF and give the nobles a true calling? This is DF paranoia and I invite you to join in!
IF YOU DARE!!!
Rules:
Ok, the concept from mafia/werewolf is the same; among the populace is a traitor/s who is killing other people. The other players must find out who this person/s is and kill them, but they don't know who this person/s is. At a set date, the populace forms an angry mob and kills a player as the result of a vote beforehand. At a time before the vote, the traitors will kill a person apiece if they wish. But during all this is the kicker, the fortress must keep working as normally as possible! That means that if anyone was to be killed by accident, then so be it! Anyone starves, so be it! So the players must think twice about killing people like the masons who make furniture, and think again when they want to kill the planters. And check their rekoning when thinking of killing the military who defend the fortress from outside threats!
The tasks that the fortress has will be dispersed at my pleasure as I will be the one who is playing the fort. I will comply to your requests as best as I can, but I dout that we will need siege operators/siege engineers with a pop of 20 max. So think carefully about your choices.
To win, the citizens (people who are innocent) must kill all the traitors. They loose if the traitors win by killing all the innocents.
To help the innocents, there will be special hidden roles that are granted to some players. These are explained in the spoiler below.
Players may whisper to each other as much as they want, but are encouraged to speak openly in the thread.
The traitors DO NOT know who is a fellow traitor, as the resistance (who is explained in the spoiler below) have decided that the best chance of not taking too many loses is that noone else knows who anyone else is.
Feel free to ask any questions in this thread, not in the game thread! GOOD LUCK!
The roles:
The mayor: Their votes count for two. Known to everyone.
The Sheriff: May protect a person of their choosing until after the vote. If that person is attacked, they will save them and drive away the attacker.
The manager: May investigate a person to see what role they play. Can do so only once until after the vote.
The Bookkeeper: May decide to help a person until a vote. If that person is targeted by the traitor or Freelancer, the person will not die.
Freelancer: May target a person and kill them in the same time that the traitors strike. Can only target one person until after the vote.
Fortress guard: Max 2. They may also protect a person of their choosing, but if the person is attacked, they sacrifice themselves as they aren't as experienced. If the Sheriff dies, one takes his place.
Traitor: Part of the resistance that was sent to the outpost somehow. They kill a single person each a turn if they want, or may lay low if they think the heat is on themselves.
The backstory:
The king of the civilization of the citizens decided that their nation needed to expand to meet other nations, like the humans and the elves. In order to start this, he ordered that a outpost be constructed on the border, in order to expand their lands. However, some of the populace disagreed with the kings decision and wanted to send a message. However, the king was too protected to attack safely. So in order to send the message, they sent a agent/s to the new outpost that the king requested built. They called themselves the resistance and ordered the agent/s to kill in their name. Hopefully, with enough deaths, the king will think twice about expanding...
Things were going to hell in the dwarven outpost. In their midst, there was someone or somepeople killing other citizens! This had been going on for a while, and there had been large losses so far. The mayor sent a letter to the ruler of the nation, begging for help, and he got this in return, which he read out to a meeting of the general populace:
To the mayor,
I am distressed to say that I cannot send any armed help to your fortress as the goblins are attacking our borders and the army is needed there. I will not take any action against this however. In my name, your outpost is authorized to do the following in order:
Lockdown the outpost from the outside so to prevent the traitors from escaping.
Kill the traitors without prosecution.
You and the citizens will have to decide how to do this. I wish you luck.
Your liege.
There was a great chattering and then silence, as everyone looked at everyone else suspiciously. The traitor could be anyone. The mayor ordered that everyone go back to work and the citizens and traitors moved back to work.
10 to 20 people max!
