I'm experiencing game crashes with the above error message. I don't seem to be able to progress my game beyond this point now. I've seen other people have this problem, but only when they'd lost some of the files in their save folder; afaik I still have all the files created at world gen. Certainly there are plenty of them. It's the middle of winter. I've had about a couple dozen or so ambushes/thieves/snatchers which I've fended off sucessfully.
Any ideas as to what I can do now? I'll be really bummed to lose this game--it's the furthest I've ever got in DF and it's going well.
I've uploaded a save game from just before where the crashes are occuring to DFFD.

I've seen this before, but I always assume its some mod I have installed but can't pinpoint.

You could have, you know, used the search funcion on the upper right corner of these forums and found out all you need to know... ???
This problem is caused by the save file being corrupted. There should be a lot of files in the save region folder but in this case there are only around 3 left.
Then when something something should enter the map, ie. a caravan the game crashes.
If you have an earlier save, you can copy/paste the missing files from there.
For me this was probably caused by the human liaison getting killed the previus year.

Dude, I did. Did you not read my report?
I have about a hundred files in the save folder, not three.

Lastofthelight... yeah, that's possible.
I think I added the cat fix patch part way through.
Any idea what I could do to correct matters now?

I tried copying over my data/object and raw/object files from my 40d2 installation to my 40d8 installation in case I'd missed them the first time, but it hasn't helped.

It's just save file corruption with no obvious way of finding the cause. Unless you had backup saves from earlier, it's gone. Sorry.

I got this error twice - both times when abandoning a 8-9 year old fort, then entering adventurer mode and trying to visit a town. Reloading from earlier autobackups did not help. I only get this error in adventure mode though.
My game is modded, but that's mostly just buffing creatures' stats, also fish fix and cat fix.

Ok, I had this error and fixed it by going into the individual save folder with the notepad files and copying the ones from an earlier save into my new one. The newest save had only 3 notepad files and the older one had around 20. If you didn't back up your screwed ;D
