Title: Don't talk to me

Is there any reason that the people in this town keep saying this to me? I have a bit of an inkling but I would appreciate the input.

You stole an item with $'s around it.  Now don't talk to me, thief (just kidding)
DF people really hate it when you steal in DF.

But at least they only shun thieves, now.  They used to attack on sight.

Like the time I stole some armor. Snuck out and went one town over. It was night, so I slept in the tavern. Next thing I know, someone comes up and puts a bunch of crossbow bolts through me in my sleep. :D

They didn't like me anyway but I kinda assumed it was cause I killed a guard for slicing into me when I was sneaking about town. I wish they didn't all wake up the moment I leave.
