Try putting the window at fullscreen.  At least then you won't have to crop it.

Printscreen or alt+printscreen. You can even minimize and select the region of the screen to copy - but let's not get into that archaic method over a more effective archaic method. In any case, the screen will be stored as a device independent bitmap (or something) in your Windows clipboard.

Note, this method of taking screenshots effectively doubles the pixel size of the image for some inexplicable reason. So, instead of pasting a 320x200 pixel image into the image editor of your choice, it'll paste a 640x400 pixel image. Also note, this method will only work if you're running Windows - not in a pure dos environment (i.e. booting with a boot disk, or running a Dos 5 or 6 partition). In pure dos, you'll probably just cause your PC to print the screen on your printer (that's what it was used for way back in the old days! ).

F12 - not implemented. In the Geoscape, it'll probably toggle the text overlays.

That's what I did. What you saw is what I got.

I thought it was bullshit, too, until my cousin up in Berlin told me it was real. Then I still thought it was bullshit.

Then they made me the commander of all of X-com, told me it was important they have someone experienced.

I was given a folder with a list of our soldiers and browsed through it. They had several strange aliases, to say the least.

I made a mental note not to talk to that one if I could avoid it and went over our first-encounter reports. Our weapons had been woefully inadequate. We needed something better.

Neither have I.  That's why the so called SUperhuman AI is kicking my ass.  Remember that it's not any smarter, the aliens are just tougher and more numerous to make up for it.

Or course in any other game this would be sensible.  XCOM has some AI years ahead of it's fucking time in the kind of bullshit the game can pull off.

This time I'll take a Scout, give him a pistol and a motion scanner. High action points, if possible. Oh, and if it's a night mission he carries lots of flares to chuck around so our heavy weapons guys can see where to shoot.  8)

Firing any two-handed weapon while something is held in the off hand (another weapon, a grenade, a scanner, whatever) gives you a penalty to your accuracy. Which makes sense.

Of the guns, only pistols are one-handed, I think. And maybe small launchers.

Holding two laser weapons is particularly silly, since you don't have ammo concerns. My scouts often have two pistols at the beginning and end of the game, since normal pistols and plasma pistols use ammo. Having a second pistol lets you keep firing when one runs out of ammo. Since that's not an issue with laser pistols, you're free to use the other hand for secondary items. My medics and scanner-scouts tend to keep laser pistols even later in the game for that very reason.

You're both wrong.  The best cost to build vs sale cost ratio is the Laser Pistol.  However, the build times for pretty much every weapon is remarkably close, so it can be more cost effective to build stuff with a smaller return margin.

Hope one of these helps out Pandarsenic. Managed to come acorss a couple free image viewers that claim to have batch conversion ability. From About.com (http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/graphicformats/f/convertoddfiles.htm) they are Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) and XnView (http://www.xnview.com/). Further, XnView has a standalone batch convertor called Nconvert (http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/en_nconvert.html) and is avaiable for multiple OS. All claim to read TGA and write PNG and JPEG (among many many others). I've not had a chance to play with them yet (will do though since I love free software), but from what I can see they _should_ be perfectly safe.

Oh though not neccessary when you get more new recruits I'd like one. Be interesting to see how he goes about dieing. Heck this is making me tempted to play some more X-Com myself.
