Title: Better ways of dealing with large numbers of items.
Post by: HungryHobo on April 16, 2008, 05:21:00 am
I couldn't find this in the dev pages but if I missed it sorry.
Often I find myself with a newly dug large storeroom filled with useless stone.
I want to dump the 500 or so pieces of stone to make the room usable and to give those 12 lazy idlers something to do.
problem is that it will take me 1000 or more keypresses to designate all that stone for dumping.

What I would like is improved management for large numbers of objects.
If I could designate items to be dumped in the same way that I designate items to be forbidden/claimed that would save so much time.

If I could manage items from the stock screen as groups that would be even better.

I'd like to be able to view all stone on the stock screen and then select felsite(3556) and press d to designate every piece of felsite in my fortress to be dumped.

From the stock screen if I could search for "narrow iron" like when I'm selecting items for trade and then be able to designate all returned results for melting it would help.

I love this game but the monotony of some of these tasks detracts from my enjoyment.

I agree... also, I will LOVE IT when I FInally get to use the mouse! It will be easier to set patrols. and you can outline dumped items.

I would like to automelt all meltable *narrow* or *large* items.

Captain Goatse agrees with you.
