Title: A Dwarf Fortress for Idiots Guide
Post by: Flok Speargrabber on November 05, 2007, 06:28:00 pm
One of the main complaints about this game that I've heard with the friends I've shared the game with is the steep learning curve. For example, one of my friends attempted to build a waterwheel on a brook, rather than the water underneith, and couldn't figure out how to hook it up to the mill.

That sorta thing; everything from the basic (You only really need one axe at the start) to the complicated (SOAP.)

A: There's the wiki.
B: Soap is useless.

A. Well someone make an article on how to make mills work.

For, uh, my friend.

B. It's still complicated.

Yeah, I need it too for um... friend.
I know how to do all those things, but he's an idiot and he needs a guide...

The idiot's guide is the wiki. There's a ton of information up there now. http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Main_Page

More specifically, see Category:Guides.

Indecisive's guide is a very good place to start.

This new version is new to *everybody*, so if you see that the wiki is lacking something, figure it out and write about it! That's what the rest of us are doing.
