Title: Generic Engraving
Post by: Drakale on April 18, 2008, 01:19:00 pm
I was looking at the very nice picture from Flying Mage in this Thread and noticed the crates all had what i assume is the fortress symbol on them. Thats a really cool concept, especially once the caravan act rolls in as you would then be able to guess the provenance of goods just from the marking of the containers.

So the proposition is this: make all containers automatically come engraved with the fortress/city symbol on them.

I think it'd be done when he gets around to doing real world economics and all that, as it is its pretty useless to do something like that; all the tradegoods either come from a human town, a dwarven town or an elvish settlement; makes no difference what the name of the town is.

Yeah, but it would be thrilling to start a new fortress and after a few season a human merchant show up from a nearby town and among his goods, a barrel from your old fortress filled with goods imported from there   :p

The whole point is to make your fortress have a tangible effect in the generated world, and a mark on some of the generics goods would be a great way of doing this. Agreed i can wait for the caravan arc, but it so simple that it could be added right now for legacy purpose...

And then having little towns that have a legendary crafter making the highest quality goods. Oh and the lengths you would go to either as an adventurer or a fledgling fortress to say get some armor or something crafted by the legend.
