Title: Inspecting corpses
Post by: DuncanFrost on February 13, 2008, 06:05:00 am
I think it'd be nice to be able to inspect corpses, and get something like:

This is the corpse of Grabcrotch Shinkicker. It has minor lacerations on the upper body. The left upper arm is missing. The left lower arm is missing. The left hand is missing. There is an arrow in the eyesocket, an arrow in the right upper arm and an arrow in the left lower leg.

Something like that. Also, it's be cool if you actually got skeletons instead of Dwarf Bones (6), that you can also inspect. Of course, you wouldn't be able to inspect it with as much detail as a fresh corpse. Maybe just missing body parts and arrows.

Mangled limbs would be examinable as well. Unless they're mangled internally, but that's just silly.  Thirded.

Hellz to yez!
But it probably won't be implemented before creature descriptions, and that isn't soon.

I say yes, really fun idea (flavour).
Then add a skill like Forensic evaluation which levels when you examine different corpses. Later you'll see "this body was eaten by hydra" or "this dwarf was killed by goblin", something like this. Of course after creat. descriptions =).

"We found this guy outside the dining hall's booze room. His skull looks like it was caved in by something, Nist."

"Looks like he...got hammered."

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Until the game can handle descriptive speech (that will be waay after v1.0), I think that we can make do with the corpse retaining residual information relevant to its condition, yielding the same thing you'd see if you looked at the live creature, except it dead now. For example, it's ENORMOUSLY silly to have a creature mutilated to the point of having no limbs, and then killing it by decapitating, and still get the same corpse from it, in addition to all the bodyparts. I am also curious as to how does one get a masterwork iron statue from an iron man that's been destroyed by a rampaging mob of axedwarves. That particular bit pertains to itemcorpses, and it won't be as easy to pass down info to it from the creature, but it should definetly be done at some point.

Social reciprocity can be a win-win situation for you too!
