Title: Fantasy Art
Post by: Tormy on March 20, 2009, 11:08:36 am
I really like the fantasy themed wallpapers and images, so I decided to make a topic about it.  :)
So, let's start with something dwarvenly perhaps?  :D

Dwarf vs. Orc [Note: It's a kinda weird looking orc, but ah well, the image is really awesome.]

How can he afford all of this metal for the helmet and the silk for the dress, yet has to use a friggin' club with nails?

Yes... that club looks like it might... mildly inconvienence that dwarf.

Wait, where are the crossbowdwarves?

It's art, no matter how crappy it is.

See, I'm so bored these days, I could even do that. However, this book is so obscure, that I couldn't find any scans on the net(apart from the few single pages), and I can't use my copy, as I don't own a scanner.

I think he was just making a joke about that difficulty involved in taking a picture of a creature that kills/turns to stone anyone who looks into its gaze.

Then again, that might just be me interpreting humor into everything.

And am I the only one who is far more impressed by the detailed musculature of the human than the artistic representation of the basilisk?  And no, I don't just mean that I like looking at half-naked women more than giant snake creatures.  I mean that he did an exceptionally good job of expressing human musculature in order to make a realistic body (something which is damn hard to do just right).

Absolutely,  Vallejo is a master of the human form.  Someone (im too lazy/stupid) should print out all his Conan cover art (I dont know if he made it for Conan or not, but its impressive nontheless)

Well, my brother doesn't use any pre-made art pieces. He makes everything from scratch. Now that you mention it the lower right is really good  ;D. On a (quite popular) art site it was chosen "art of the day"
www.digart.pl (http://www.digart.pl) (its in polish so only Il palazzo will find it usefull. Search for MarMad)

Il Palazzo: Well he is a 21 year old talented artist that currently works on Game graphics (I don't know if he's a concept artist or whatever he's doing) He wins a lot of Awards ( he has like 9-10 of those. mostly 1-st places ). He is a professional artist as you see.

Something to make you glare with awe:

Yeah, which is why I've put a (?) after the sentence. Hm...anyways, these dwarves are "looking like" the Derro dwarves (Dark Dwarves from Dragonlance).

Our airdrop wagon was shot down by goblins. We are now settling here, on The Scales of Evil. We were going for a site near The Gilded Fields, but I suppose this place will do. After we fought off a band of wold zombie trolls, we started to dig into the Earth. We sent out a scout, Urist Cobblegazes, to check out the local area for resources and possible connections to other civilizations."

That was disappointing.  I thought it'd show someone sketch one out really fast.  Instead it's a time-lapse of the drawing/coloring process.  Not that it isn't neat enough in its own right, but I had higher expectations.

regardless, I think it would be more appropriate in a science fiction art thread, I really doubt that it is the sort of thing people come here for...

I have heard that there is some decent evidence that suggest that there is some fake footage. It seems perfectly reasonable to me that they would have made a fake video in case something went wrong. They are hardly going to risk their propaganda shots on something silly like a radio malfunction... So it is quite possible that the landing really happened and that some or all of the footage is fake, but I really don't care...

Yeah, the dimensions all seem to be off for a dwarf, the legs should probably be shorter, the body should probably be broader, and aside from the upper arm muscles it all looks almost plausible for a human. Not a bad piece of artwork though, just doesn't look like a dwarf to me...
