Still, it's a good role play game, if you play with the right kind of people.

I haven't really watched Death Note. Looked too pop gothy for me. Just what does death not mode entail and how is it different from non-death note mode?

Well, In Death Note mode, you have someone to be Kira, who has the Death Note. Someone is the Shinigami Eyes too, and they must either team up, or fight against each other, the aim of Kira being to kill everyone. So, Kira without Eyes can have a hard time surviving, seeing that everyone is trying to hunt him down, and writing in a book doesn't go unnoticed. Finding names as Kira is also hard, because no one knows your real name. (Well, excepted Eyes). So Kira has to set up people against each other, and do stuff to not blow his cover.
in Normal Mode, you have a killer, designated at the start, and well, that killer has to kill everyone without dieing himself. It is different of DN Mode in the sense that he does not have a teammate killer with him, and has less destruction potential than a Kira/Shinigami Eyes Couple, who can just write a name and be done with it. It's more about stealth and less about cunning. If someone sees you killing someone, you can go and club him over the head too.
There's also a mode called Nanaya, which is just a FFA.

Ha! After seeing screenshots a long while back, then playing SS13, somehow I knew it was a BYOND game.
If you liked SS13, you'd like this, I'm guessing, and maybe vice versa.
This had better not destroy my night and keep me up late. >_>

It's kind of funny because I've been wanting a game like this, but not executed this way. :P And by funny I mean frustrating.

I played this a while back... The community went right downhill at some point. Was actually thinking of posting it up when I saw the other BYOND game run up.
Guess I'll have to get into it again, if it catches on here... Might be enough to turn it all around.

What's wrong with the community? Is it just full of people who sign on to kill people for lulz without actually thinking about the game's objectives? I mean, that's probably really annoying. But a server with aggressive administrators seems like it could become a safe haven.

Oh my god I laughed so hard at that comic.
This game is terrible. D: If I want to watch two people almost cybering I should have to go to a MUCK, instead of accidentally spectate on them while in ghost mode, waiting to join the game.
When I joined my first one and actually made it in, the admin ordered everyone out-of-character to line up in the courtyard and be searched because someone hoarded all the keys and bats. Then there was arguing and beating people up in-game except not really in character, and a couple people got banned. Then they rebooted the server, and there was arguments over what order you should join the game in so people could get the spots they wanted. I didn't re-join in time after leaving, and got left out of the game. Decided not to wait around for the next one.
Waste of time.

That was, indeed, a horrible server.
