Killing floor. From the People who brought you Red Orchestra.
UT04 + Counterstrike Merchant + L4D + 28 Days Later.
Massively cooperative survival horror. Says standard play is with 6 people. Originally a mod, now commercial and fairly professional. Surprisingly few bugs that aren't game-breaking. Waves and waves of genetic mutants, progressively harder. NON-LINEAR! Zombies get guns too as it goes. A server was run with 70 some people, incredibly lag free. Thought L4D is too easy? Took 2 and a half hours to make it to the final boss which pwnd them all even with 70 people. IRON SIGHTS ONLY! Reloads not pointlessly fast either, careful when you reload. Get "perks" as you play more. Buy weapons and supplies between waves and quickly reorganize. NO WEAPON SLOTS, WEIGHT BASED! Share some of your loot with a friend and save up for big support weapons!
Best part? 20$, and it will run on a 1.2 Ghz processor with a 64 Mb Vid card.
Ready to mod out of the box.
Anyone willing to sacrifice 20$ and tell us how it is?

People need to learn to use the search feature. ;) (http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=35595.0)
I got it, it's not bad. It's sort of like L4D on survival mode, but you got your classes and levels attached. It's a bit alike CS in a sense, since you can buy weapons between rounds assuming you got to the shop.

Seconded.
I find it interessting that you praise it that much but are not willing to pay those 20$ yourself.
Non linear? its the same everytime with the exception of where the shop will appear, which in itself is a plot blackhole. Zombies do not get guns, the last boss have one but that is all and i've not yet seen im use it.
I cant understand that they failed with 70 people, even on suicidal difficulty.
No weapon slots? the weightbased system kinda prevents you from even getting that many weapons.
the sharpshooter for example; obligatory sidearm(can't drop) + desert eagle + rifle/shotty/crossbow = max weight.
-
It depends on the 'class' you pick. Some have increased weight allowances after a couple levels.
-
I'll check it out.

Why would it give you a sidearm that you can't drop?

It's the starting pistol, can't drop that one or the knife

But from a development standpoint, when the characters can only carry so much, WHY give the players items they can't drop?
-
Because then people would cry about being unable to defeat the end boss on suicidal with their fists. As it is, its possible with the knife and 9mm.

Only if you're playing on easy and maybe on medium. On hard you need at least one rocket launcher. That's to say the least.
-
That doesn't really answer my question though...

Thought L4D is too easy? Took 2 and a half hours to make it to the final boss which pwnd them all even with 70 people
I never played Left 4 dead long enough to get beyond "Shooting blindly at enemies" but 2.5 hours doesn't sound that hard.
Though I never really got the "Survival" aspect of Left4Dead since even on the hardest modes you got all the ammo you could ever need.
Though Dead Rising was probably the only game ever to try a true survival horror (which needed to be unlocked) and it wasn't all THAT great.

See, it's not about ammo. It's about the guns not shooting fast enough, the players not hitting enough, the guns reloading too slowly and the fact there are more zombies than bullets.

Yeah that is kinda the problem. The Function of the guns doesn't constitute survival horror to me or some of the older Survival Horror vets. It really had degenerated into Horror Shooters hasn't it?
Then again the whole "Horror" genre in both movies and games is flimsy at best where a lot of movies with monsters are labled horror. So I can't really expect a Survival Horror to really have any sort of stability in definition.

The name is more of a pun since you die anyway. The poster of the new campaign states that. "It doesn't end well"

Played it for a while, I don't like the graphics or the CS style between round shops.
I also don't like the fact that you are playing a bunch of soldiers and cops sent out to kill mutants or whatever, with only a pistol and a knife.
Pro-Tip: You have grenades.

Ignoring the plotholes i answer; You are not sent to kill mutants, you're sent to conteract a disturbance. Initialy belived to be a riot.
But i dont know why they bring grenades to a riot though.
-
To kill people. Duh.
-
How many people exactly?
And I've played obviously. But watch some actual game play if you want to know how its like damn it. I'm sure there's tons, including the play in the first thread when it was about to release.

Red Orchestra was the least fun gaming experience I have ever had. With the single, very slight possibility of Mao, which isn't a video game, and is only fun if you're not the guy getting hazed.(guess who I was.)
I wouldn't touch anything else made by the same company.
-
With the single, very slight possibility of Mao
INVOKING THE NAME OF THE CHAIRMAN WITHOUT JUST CAUSE.
I did not hear you call a point of order.
*hands Volfram a card*

I do not play Mao.
