First off, a great big thanks to the Tarns for the awesome game - great in it's alpha and will be absolutely incredible later.

These are a few minor things I think would be nice to see soonish (after the army arc and various bug fixes of course  :D)

-No interrupts from enemies many z-levels away/through stone that have no chance of attacking my dwarves/my dwarves shouldn't even be able to see.

-Ability to choose what sort of stone to use when crafting/mason like in metal forges/smelters. Current method of gathering all stone into various stockpiles or forbidding some at a time is a little bothersome.

-Ability to place multiple walls/floors at once

-ability to designate which items to adorn/decorate with bone/metal/whatever (make creation of psuedo-legendary masterful items easier) Current method is random/luck to adorn the right item unless you forbid everything else.

-Have ability to get dwarves to sleep/eat/drink before an important engagement so that they don't sleep on/leave the field of battle

-designate sections of hallways/high traffic areas as one-way only so dwarves don't slow down from smacking each other.

-Legendary champion dwarves have long names on the "u" screen which cover their current task.

-More distinction between jails and zoos; my dwarves love to hang out and party next to dangerous criminals.

-Perhaps have catapults work on multiple z-levels/do something other than clear forts of stone.

-psychologist/comedian dwarf (comedian skill?) that can walk around cheering up dwarves

Just my two cents - feel free to ignore and whatnot, because I'm sure some have been suggested before or some changes are coming soon. Thanks Toady - the dev log looks sweet and I've had more fun on this game than many other 'professional ones'.

Just as a point of curiousity, I figured out how to designate an area such that as few dwarves as possible run into each other.  Was mostly an accident.

The entrances are 1-wide, due to it being an alternate route at the time (the level above this is a 5-wide bridge, and this was a series of 1-wide bridges, then encased in walls).

Dwarves going west end up taking the north route, and dwarves going east follow the south road.  This is due to dwarves' preference of going north before going west (i.e. they travel in NW diagonals until on the same horizontal line as their destination) and their preference to travel south before traveling east.

I don't want to sound like a troll, but you've just suggested every major thing that has been suggested since 33a was released. And last time I counted, the was only one Tarn.

Well, not everything, I was exaggerating, but everything you've suggested has been suggested bfore.

no big, I was just throwing my thoughts out there like I said -

and thanks for the tip on the hallways, i'll try that out.
