Title: LSTAR's Spring Cleaning
Post by: LSTAR on January 18, 2008, 09:37:00 am
I played StA:1 recently. I broke my bow on a rabbit's head and walked about for a bit. I liked the way you could get a description of things' internal organs. That was nice.

Okay! I admit it! I was just tired of seeing qwertyuiopas' name here all the time! I will have my immortality!

(And I'm well aware of the irony, and that that's not in reference to what you think it is...)

I could never play the game without it locking up long enough for anything cool to happen  :(

If only we had one of earlier, better editions.
I heard you actually had some different weapons except the bow...

You did, along with towns.

I'd love to play one of those versions, for historical value if nothing else

STA is a historical relic now. Perhaps we should have one of our dedicated archaeologists try to dig it up a bit more..

I actually enjoy the game quite a bit ^^, however not has much as DF. It would be great to play with towns and more weapons, which is what I have always thought was missing most.

Well, if it was left to the community to improve....
But that means releasing some of DF's code, since I think it still uses some of STA'a combat system...

Huh? DF code? In Armok?

I don't know, but I think toady based DF on STA, so some of it should be there...

Actually, I just remembered that I heard in a recent interview that both were made at the same time. STA was canceled to work on DF, since STA was getting nowhere to slowly..

It seems to me that DF got the whole story line type thingy from STA.  I doubt much STA code is actually in DF.  That's what Kobold Quest is for, and it's open source.

arm_ok ?

Long story short, Arm_Ok was the variable Toady used in his old Fantasy Game(Tm) to keep track of whether an adventurer still had arms. It was the inspiration for the god Armok.

Tor_ak: god of misspelling.

P.S. why is Armok god of blood? shouldn't he be god of [severed] arms?

Title: Re: LSTAR's Spring Cleaning
Post by: qwertyuiopas on March 11, 2008, 10:49:00 am
Because severd arms lead to blood and the game needed a single god?

Tor_ak -god of misspelling.

I'd understand if misspelling had an A or K in it.

yeah, it's a bit of a stretch. the idea is that all the gods are sth_ok's and you are sth_ak. perhaps it should go like this:

Arm_ok: god of arms and blood
Leg_ok: god of legs and football
Tor_ak: god of torsos and misspeling

About the people who think all the forums should be this colour... do colour-blind people agree?  :p
Title: Re: LSTAR's Spring Cleaning

Prolly not, because a common form of colorblindness is seeing red as black.

I'm colourblind and I wish to inform you that you are in fact totally wrong.
I like this colour scheme.

What type of colorblindness?

I was talking about this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_blindness

Look at Protanomaly

# Protanomaly (1% of males, 0.01% of females):[14] Having a mutated form of the long-wavelength (red) pigment, whose peak sensitivity is at a shorter wavelength than in the normal retina, protanomalous individuals are less sensitive to red light than normal. This means that they are less able to discriminate colors, and they do not see mixed lights as having the same colors as normal observers. They also suffer from a darkening of the red end of the spectrum.

This red stuff should be a theme in the new forum.

Personally, I always thought this theme was absolutely illegible. Dark red on Black, I mean...

Muwhahahah !
But yes, this theme is not good at all. There's one, called black22, used on a forum I use, which I really like.

You can change the theme on your profile. I changed mine to "Darkling" and it's much easier on the eyes.
