Alright, so I tamed a vermin (rat in this case), and then when it was in the animal trap, I selected it and pressed d(ump). A dwarf when and dumped it in a garbage zone, making it forbidden(as anything dumped in a garbage zone). However, the rat at this point(out of a cage or trap) does not have the dump/forbid/hide options. (part one of the bug) HOWEVER, you can still dump/forbid/hide using the d(esignations) -> b(uilding properties), which provides a workaround for the bug. The odd part is that now my cat(seeing the unforbidden vermin) went and killed it, and is now carrying rat remains. Maybe this is supposed to happen, but imho tame vermin don't need killing...if I wanted them eaten i wouldn't have tamed them...

The issue with escaped vermins being impossible to forbid/unforbid with (k)-->(f) was noted in another recent thread (http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=38130.msg630727#msg630727).
As for vermin hunters killing tamed vermins as well, I don't know if it is intentional. It kind of does make sense, and you'd rarely have tamed vermins running around outside of cages anyway.
Something that does sound weird - at least to me - is if your cats ignored the vermin while it was forbidden. I don't know if it's always been like that, but for me it makes no sense that animals would know what items were forbidden and which were not. Seems to me like the "forbidden" status is something only your cooperative dwarves would respect, and animals, invaders and tantrumers could disregard. But I don't know Toady's reasoning on this point.
