Title: [0.28.181.40d] Stops Responding
Post by: TheLeaver on July 10, 2009, 10:15:04 pm
After three months I have started playing Dwarf Fortress again and I have started getting errors.

Dwarf Fortress will seemingly at random stop responding and close making me lose any progress I made on my fortress. I don't recieve any other error message other then "This application has stopped responding etc", I have been able to reload and play again until I get past the point I got the error, but the game will still stop responding whenever it chooses to.

I have been able to run DF for hours at a time in the past without incident and as far as I know I have not changed any of my computers settings in any way that could be relevant to this.

Does this just happen in a particular savegame?  It might correspond to the arrival of a caravan or siege group.

This happens whenever I start a fortress. There doesn't seem to be any particular trigger for this. I can save and play exactly the same and it will keep going past where it crashed before, and it will instead crash sometimes 10, sometimes 30 minutes later.

What operating system are you using?  Is there anything unusual in errorlog.txt?

I am using windows vista. I cannot seem to find an errorlog.txt. If you mean gamelog.txt there is nothing unusual in there other then it just ending.

Do you have the game installed in Program Files?  If so, try reinstalling it somewhere else instead.  You might want to re-download the game in case your previous install got corrupted.

My previous DF was in My Documents if that counts.

Redownloading and extracting DF to the desktop seems to have worked. I have had no further problems with this, thank you.
