Title: Underground advertisments for DF

Just read through some threads on the coverage this game gets. It isn't ready for prime time, I'd wait until the interface is improved a few lightyears and the graphics a few generations, but that doesn't mean I can't have some fun.

Anyone considered some viral/underground marketing for DF? See what I did here out of boredom, I think this is a form of underground marketing:

Perhaps if DF is ever ready for primetime, we can dust off this thread and 4chan will see a new forced meme. Dunno. Thought it might be a fun project just to compile what culture would be like if DF had always been around. Lets see what you can come up with.

I'd go for the above dwarf graphic (just the original pixels) with 'You dig?' written somewhere nearby. Not the most original of ideas, but easy to communicate to someone who's never seen it.

Heh, this got me thinking, people could make Dwarf Face templates and spraypaint them around their towns ;D Start a revolution. Or just take pictures and make a gallery of the Dwarves "engraved" onto the far corners of the globe.

Of course, that would more petty vandalism and less image macro than your idea >_>

I like that image though.

I like the idea of DF viral marketing (or whatever you prefer to call it). It's been brought up before, but the idea hasn't really caught on with the comunity as a whole...

Hmm... I wonder if/how I could work a DF reference into that game project I'm working on...

Hrm. I don't think it would be ethical for a third party to sell DF merchandise. Maybe if you donate all the proceeds directly to Toady, but I still think he should approve the designs... trademark thing. You don't want to accidentally link DF's image with something he's not cool about.

For instance, a "Chasm found on embark" thong might be inappropriate. (on the other hand it would also be awesome, but yeah.)

You know, when I first found 4chan, I wanted to know what this "OMG don't g oto /b/!!!one!!" business was about.  I was thoroughly disappointed.  Just a lot of bad typing and pictures of penises.  In most threads, I didn't even know what I was looking at, nor why I was supposed to care.

For that matter, every thread gets posted in so fast that it's impossible to read anything not on the first page.

Yeah, a lot of people are way less secure than they think they are when it comes to internet privacy.  I have multiple emails for different things to keep people off my trail in case I piss off the wrong person, and I'm still confident someone with the will to find me could.

I was struggling with the ending a bit, and I don't think I got it right.

Hmm... I'm tempted to apply my (very limited) 3D graphics skills to this and make a video. 30 seconds or so... Hmm...

EDIT/UPDATE: I don't think I'll have much actual 3D animation, more of a photo-montage, but I've swiped pictures with Google Image Search for the first part.
