Title: DorfQuest - We need no damn arms!
Post by: Cajoes on July 27, 2009, 07:51:21 pm
Lacking anything better to do...

Edit: Since this became more popular than expected, I'm expanding this bit.

Dorfquest. Enter the head of a nameless Dorf (As to avoid conflict with vertically disabled and the Tolkien estate. (Not to mention WotC)), and tug the strings that makes him tick. Polish walls, carve a mug, pull every lever you come across. As long as it's reasonably logical humorous or Dorfen to do.

Contains strong language and possibly violent scenes in the future. Reader discretion is advised.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Addendum: Well buggeration, apparently DorfQuest is also a text adventure from 4chan... I really should check these things before embarking on whimsical forum nonsense.

Look at the engravings of fortifications on the walls. For you can see through fortifications, and determine the layer of rock on the other side, if it were a true fortification.

Loot the bins and bust a hole in those fortifications. Compromising fort defenses is a small price to pay when searching for booze.

Post by: BigFatDwarf on July 31, 2009, 09:30:44 pm
Well you can press Quote to view it in code, thus revealing the image's location.

Oh, it's not loading because the image server has the 503 error, something about being uncapable of giving this image service blah blah.
Title: Re: DorfQuest - The search for beer.
Post by: Armok on July 31, 2009, 10:09:05 pm
it's not working for me either, that error is extremely odd. (if it's the server it cant reach, then how come it's not all of the images hosted on the site that are unavailable?)
Title: Re: DorfQuest - The search for beer.
Post by: BigFatDwarf on July 31, 2009, 10:13:23 pm
Because there are multiple servers, at least by my theory. each server has some of the pics. It seems they are performing some maintenance on this one, so all the pics on this server will be unavailable for a while.

Of course, the other servers work just fine, so not all pics would share the fate.

Then again, it's just a theory. It could be also just that FBI arrived and raped their image-sharing HQ for unknown reasons.

I was just thinking about how awesome a Dwarf Fortress themed MSPaint Adventure would be, and lo, I find one!

Say that you are, indeed, the volunteer miner they have been waiting for, and agree to do whatever tasks the caravan has in store for a volunteer miner in exchange for some of that delicious booze. Strike the earth!

EDIT: I'm curious, but how do you determine which action to take? Do you just randomly choose one of the posts, and do what it says? Or do you choose the most (or least) reasonable one?

Sorry for not updating, been sick with worry over more personal matters recently.

I generally pick the ones that don't directly will lead to the story coming to a abrupt end... :3

*A frozen frozen sinister tundra called The Thousand Needles of Eternal Torture
*Nearby the sea The Pregnant Sea Of Zombie Wales,
*The glacier The Looming Terror starting in the adjutant worldmap tile,
*A human city of Milksugars.
*A goblin tower

*A haunted desert

*Tropical wetlands
*A 30+ z waterfall
*A Terrifying glacier
*HFS
*A cave full of kobolds that guards the volcano

Settle on a tile that has all of the folowing:

*A frozen frozen sinister tundra called The Thousand Needles of Eternal Torture
*Nearby the sea The Pregnant Sea Of Zombie Wales,
*The glacier The Looming Terror starting in the adjutant worldmap tile,
*A human city of Milksugars.
*A goblin tower
*A chasm full of GCS in
*A freezing mountain
*A cold forest, a magma pipe
*An underground river.
*A haunted desert
*A haunted swamp
*A Terrifying Volcano with skeletal fire imps
*Tropical wetlands
*A 30+ z waterfall
*A Terrifying glacier
*HFS
*A cave full of kobolds that guards the volcano

... I think someone has been messing with the worldgen parameters.

Don't forget an iron ore and the beautiful skeletal eagles, remarkable for their talons. Your favorite animal.

I think we have a suitable embark site... it's not like you need to actually gen it.

I searched for Cajoes posts on the entire forum, his most recent is this thread seems to have been his last. I hope this can still continue...

Well There's really only three explanations:
A) Hes busy with real life stuff.
B) Hes Drawing the next picture and it's taking awhile.
C) Hes not drawing them because hes playing the game.

truth be told....i have no idea how to add creatures to my game.... i run a basic game as it is....

tho now i do feel like if im going to mod my creature crap i should go look up what to do... and the Mighty Makken will be my first....

tho, realistically, if i were to create it.... i should probly figure out the details of the beast.... how many limbs and stats and the such....

damn it all... now i want to create the beast....if you dont hear from me in the next few days ive either succeded at creating this thing, and am trying to find one, or im dying from trying to figure it out... lol

EDIT* its probably Q) he has decided to try to create the Makken and is failing horribly....

um wait... does it swim in water and is made of magma, or is it made of magma and lives in it too? cause living in magma and made of magma is so much cooler than one that would spawn in the water and suddenly create steam and cool itself into an instant statue of itself....lol.... wait.... both would be awesome.... instant statue!!!!!

yeah all of that looks like massive jumbles of letters to me, so if you would be so kind.... how many limbs does that have? and then if someone would also be so kind as to send me a personal message telling me how and where to place the new makken. i would be much abliged

If you want it to spawn in water (not sure if it survives, but I promise there will be smoke on the water) add [AQUATIC]. Or maybe it's [BIOME:AQUATIC], not sure. Look it up on wiki.

Anyway, make a new .txt, or paste into an old, I don't THINK it matters. if it's anew .txt (easier to organize that way anyhoo) add:

"creature_makken

[OBJECT:CREATURE]
"

to the top without the quotes, yes I meant to put the quote on the lower line (signifies the line break is there). Should be there when you gen a new world, you have the same chance of it being there at all as fire men, but a much smaller population. Probably likely that very early on, they all attack you (hopefully not all at once) and either kill you or die off. I'd say it would be awesome to tame them, but that doesn't go well with fixed 12000 temp.

firesafe cages anyone?

make two makkens... name one Aquamakken, cousin to aquaman and aqualad and the infamous aqua-dwarffortress...(very bad idea of creating a megaproject using many pumps and flooding the world on accident when trying to create a waterfall using an indoor waterfall.... and forgot to close a door that was levered open.....thus the aquafort.

toobad the dwarfs couldnt breath water)

I am starting to think that the poor artist got overexerted of  the mere thought of the area we're asking for. Maybe we should give the guy a break and choose a bit more normal area.

In this case, from the suggestions, I think a haunted desert would be nice. With purple sand. Purple sand that swallows the soap maker of the group. Because it's haunted. And because it hates soap.
Title: Re: DorfQuest - We need no damn arms!

Title: Re: DorfQuest - We need no damn arms!

but why does it hate the soap? is it cause it is haunted? or because soap destroyes dirt and grime from working?

or is it just because its purple, which just means that its racist against soap?

OH i know why!!! Its because there was a blood feud long ago between the haunted purple sand and the holy soap....

naw im just screwing around. or am i giving story ideas?

you be the one to decide....

tho i cant wait to see what this guy has instore for us....

i hope he didnt just decide to say F-it and abandon all of us.....

meybe ill stalk his ass and tell him to finish the story.... anyone know him personally and want to give me an address? naw just kidding....

i suck at stalking anyway.

well nevertheless.... i shall remain ever vigilant and await the artists newest picture. i hope he hasnt hurt himself trying to give us our previous demand...

Haunted purple sand is fine for me....
tho i still think it should be inside the capital.... a fort in a fort, if you will....

actually im going to go try that.....yay for DF!!!

The haunted sand wishes to soak all dorfs with it's suffocating self. Soaper makes soap, that a dorf MIGHT use to wash themselves off, removing the haunted sand.

Obviously, this cannot be allowed to happen.
