Like, why would anyone hack a bay12 forum account, why is that text below your avatar, why is this in suggestions... well whatever. Guess at least 1 person has way too much spare time.

Sounds like you/"HACKER" is a SA goon. I doubt your account got hacked, you're probably really stupid and you gave your password out to someone/used a password similar to one you used somewhere else.

Obtaining the person's password through attacking the forum's database is 'hacking'. As in, 'hacking the server'.
This was, quite clearly, not hacking. Only people who shouldn't be permitted to have internet access would call password-cracking 'hacking'.

In either case it should be cracking.
"Hacking" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hack_(technology)) originated, and should mean something completely diffrent.
Keep looking around wikipedia, and you learn that it only started being used where cracking should have been used to describe the activity in the 80s and unfortunately the media stuck with it.

no, i did not give out my password to anyone. and you might think yourself clever Mr. winterbass, deciding that because i may have used the incorrect terminology. i typed that response as something to quickly show that i was pissed. i typed it in a few seconds.
i Know the correct Title for such a person, but at that time i did'nt really care. i had to get rid of what was typed.
Please, please think before being insulting and trying to sound Knowledgeable.
Oh, and my Brother isnt intelligent enough to even USE a forum. let alone Make a topic, and have the attention span to create a topic of that length.

I was wondering why you were asking that under the suggestion forum. It would make sense if it were a cracker though, since I don't think anyone would be that much of an idiot and ask for something like that in there without looking to get modded.
Edit: The topic was him asking for gay porn with a long list of different ways to mean masturbate.

Wow. What's with the inflammatory posts? Don't many Bay12ers pride themselves in thinking that this community is "above" that?
...Upon further inspection, I see that the main "offender" is quite new. If you're going to tell someone they're wrong, it's best to do it in a respectable manner. Though Jakkarra didn't exactly help matters with the "complete dick" comment. =/

I was mulling over reporting it when I first saw the post, then I realized that I'd seen your posts before, and you struck me as "sane".
So I waited for it to be fixed by some other agency. ;D

Well, really. The likelihood of Toady's server being compromised just so someone could access a user's account, as opposed to Toady's own account is extremely unlikely.
In either case, no, I was not especially harsh. 'Hacking versus cracking' is one of my pet peeves.
If Toady's server wasn't compromised, then it was something you did, either intentionally or unintentionally - and in that case, no sympathy. If Toady's server was compromised, I apologise. But only in that case.

oh, and you could have simply said "cracking is what has happened to you jakkarra, hacking is something a bit different." i would have actually been pleased if that'd been said. i LIKE knowing stuff. i don't like being talked down upon.

Yeah. I find it irony, in that most hacker are actually script kiddies. I knew this kid who kept saying he was hacking maple story. In actuality, he was using a program written by some one else.

hacker != script kiddy.
If anything, writing their own programs is the only thing that would qualify them for the term "hacker", not what they do with the tools they got elsewhere.
