Title: Things the news don't talk about, but you know about. Share them.
Post by: blah28722 on August 21, 2009, 08:53:34 am
Taiwan, a small country off the cost of China (governed by the Government that was driven out of China some sixty, seventy years ago), is one of the top weapons importers in the world (within the top three, iirc).

We get them from the US. There's tanks, missiles, and gun storage bunkers all over the small island country.

Lets see...
A person a day dies on our states roads. News rarely mentions that.
thousands a day die from starvation in third world countries. News rarely mentions that.
People get robbed, raped and murdered. News rarely mentions that.

But they know all about hollywoods latest scandal, "how the big banks are stealing your money" and "the tenants/neighbours/landlords/council from hell being bad to the local battler"...

There's a lot of stuff news doesn't mention. Rape and murder is a favorite, though.

Strife continues to suffocate in the solitude that he prefers?

That was a joke based off a song. Don't ask.

Let's see here, the People's Republic of China continues to be an authoritarian government running an oppressive country without freedom of religion, while continuing to make outrageous sums of money off of the Bastion of Freedom.

Idiot student congress kids in ND STILL think that the idea of abandoning all military bases is worth discussion.

They talk about that a lot on newspapers, actually. Not much on TV though.

The child/prostitute-trafficking thing that is so rampant in my country.

The news never covers that.

Also, the pedophiles who come here.

General Motor's Chevy Volt is essentially a publicity stunt to get attention and appear to be doing something about the problem of gasoline why not actually doing anything. The Chevy Volt is basically imaginary, which they freely admit to when not addressing the general public.

Meanwhile the Tesla Roadster is production ready and on the road.

Which America are you living in?  I've just been seeing health-debate articles that try to make Obama look evil.  Plus the usual celebrity trash.

Does it fire Tesla bolts? Because if it doesn't, then I will be sorely disappointed.

My country used to have a problem with illegal logging. That problem has stopped, because all the logging that used to be illegal is now legal.

The part that the news doesn't talk about?

The former heads of some the logging companies are also the people who hand out the licenses, because they were elected to head the DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources). That is... the most monumentally stupid decision our government has ever, EVER made.

It depends on what you call Tesla Bolts. If you mean an arc of lightning, then no- it keeps arcing back into the car firing it or nearby streetlamps/parking meters. Another potentially good idea to deal with traffic down the drain. It wasn't a great idea in the first place though, the batteries were huge anyway. They did make one with a lance that has a Jacob's Ladder on the end, and a version that fires little ones out of a cross bow. But the lance just usually stalls the car/pedestrian you're trying to move and it's terrible for parallel parking. The mini ones are heavy and we just can't get them going fast enough to stick in steel plating and windows, plus you lose 'em and they aren't cheap.

Hrmm... the news always complains about Mexicans coming into the US illegally, but never suggests that Mexico's economy needs more fixing than border security does (start a damn highway project wouldja? It's what Teddy did, and he was voted in office for decades!).

They also seem to be keeping quiet about the road bandit problem in the less populated areas. Civilians have started mounting guns on their cars, but that just makes it harder for the cops to tell them apart. And there's a few abandoned nuclear plants spawning mutants left and right; we have to shoot those too. That all still isn't a huge problem now, but the bandits and mutants might become serious when Hurricane Gordon hits, even if the bunkers the government's installing goes as planned. The law enforcement is just going to be spread too thin.

Hum, guess what movies I've been watching lately?

I heard about those things you mentioned.

I was also forcibly deported from Myanmar for causing a minor incident. I don't think I'll be going back there soon.

Hehehe. What happened? From what I know about Myanmar, it wouldn't take much for the junta to get pissed off at someone.

Erm, I was backpacking across the Thai/Myanmar border, off-time from teaching English to my kids in Thailand, and long story short... I got offered an underaged prostitute so I introduced my elbow to his face. Unfortunately, when visiting another country, it's bad form to assault their citizens, even if you're right. So I bribed an officer and got booted back into Thailand.

That's actually pretty bad. Wait you elbowed the prostitute or the pimp? Because I condone the latter, not the former. :D

If I was talking about the prostitute, I would have said "backhanded".  ;)

But yeah, I fucking teach kids like that. I was pissed. I don't get pissed often. In fact, last time I really did get pissed off, I got deported from a country.

I should try it again sometime, preferably when visiting the middle east.

Who isn't? That's the same arguement used by Germany and Australia for their national firewall scheme. Only there it's specifically child porn.

So wait, you want to visit the middle east so you can elbow some pimps?

You don't come around here enough Kael, you should come around more.
