Title: Countries At War - Alternate
Post by: Emperor_Jonathan on September 07, 2009, 09:57:36 pm
Phantom abandoned his. I liked it, so I decided to 'update' the rules to my liking and start a new one!
Spoiler: Rules (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Turns. (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Players (click to show/hide)

Join up with any country. All you need to join is a colour and a country. The map will be updated when we start, at 5 players.

I will simply join as Alaska to purely stop people from annexing instead of fighting.
First act as Commander of alaska, rename it the GDI Auxillary Command (The Main one is in space)
Buy one battleship and buy two Commando Infantry Battalions/Brigades/Regiments/Divisons.
And profile for Infantry Bought
101st Airborne "SCREAMING EAGLES!"

502nd Airborne "The Five O' Deuce"
Oh and my color is Orange, GDI Standard.

I'm joining as Andorra (Yet again).

I'll buy...

3 frigates
1 fighter
3 light infantry

Again, I will take Gibraltar and enact a toll on every ship that passes in or out of the Mediterranean.
Are you sure thats a good idea on a Passing GDI Battleship filled to the brim with GDI Commandos?

Any chance that you'll be making rules regarding the commonwealth (Brits, Aussies, Canucks, and Bajans)?

Taking Central America with Dark Blue.

Okay. Andorra. Maroon.

Are you sure thats a good idea on a Passing GDI Battleship filled to the brim with GDI Commandos?
If they existed, I'd ask them if it was.

No.

For one, way too much power for one person at the beginning.

And two, in Australia at least, Britain and the Queen has pretty much no power on political/military/domestic/foreign affairs.

I am GDI in here, and as soon as it starts, im buying a battleship and 2 Commando Infantry.

If the coasts get UK territories, can I have Barbados? It's notable only for being the Easternmost Caribbean island. And being awesome.

Oh, and Seally? Expect me to invade in a few turns, I don't take kindly to trampling on my allies territorial possession.

As long as I'm listing my rationale for retaking Gibraltar, it's also against self-determination.

And it's an active Royal Navy and Army post. And has berths for nuclear subs.

Andorra belongs to no Yank in a Tank! (clever, I know.) Besides, I don't even own Gibraltar. (Game hasn't started)

Besides, invading Andorra will incur the wrath of both France AND Spain, Both of whom are sworn to protect my lands.

You're only allies if both are players.

Plus it's going to be pretty difficult to get to Gibraltar when you know.

You have no ports :|

Say, can we research for new weapons and vehicles?
Like, say I invented a cross for the G36, S.C.A.R. and the L85A2, and outfit one infantry (Divison, Battalion, Brigade, Regiment) for one hefty price but due to their weapons, they are one notch above a countries other soldiers?

By the way, here's the description of how I became a GDI Commander of alaska.
During 6 years before the conflict, a Phantom GDI Commando was sent to alaska to scope out N.O.D. Bases, there was a large skirmish between him, NOD, and allies in between, The Phantom emerged victorious, and due to such High Valor, he was promoted to commander.

That bit about being Landlocked was direct towards Barbarossa. Sorry for not making the distinction.

I'd like Sweden and yellow, if you please.

I'll also spend stating 2000 million on:
1 unit of fighters
2 units of infantry with regular training
1 unit of heavy tanks

If it is possible, I would like to peacefully take over Norway. If peace isn't possible, I'll be a villain and conquer it.

WAIF has four primary goals.
1) Self Determination for all peoples

Members of WAIF have mutual defense and right of passage treaties with all other WAIF members. Any country that wishes to join WAIF my join up.

Oh no, not Indonesia, can't you just sit tight and wait to be conquered like all the other NPC nations? It just HAD to be Indonesia, it is like all my nightmares came true at once. I am boxed in, threatened, and have a massive obstruction sitting in front of my expansion.

Oh, just in case anyone missed it, New Zealand has brrn renamed to the 'Brotherhood of Sheep'!

Indonesia, do you want to join the Brotherhood's cause? We have regular meeting where we play 'pin the head on the vet', 'pass the parsnip', and 'murder the traitorous Indonesia who didn't play nice with their neighbours'...
It's loads of fun, you should join up!

For the record, the original use of helicopters wasn't that bad (mind you, I'm almost always against the whirlies), it was the continued use of the, that was stupid. Although that's secondary to the idiocy of not allowing heavy gunship or armor support. The bastard politician who made that decision has blood on his hands.

I call upon all WAIF members to strike Sweden for assualt against a declared neutral country. And Finland.

For myself, I rush production of three transport wings (of the C5A type).

This gives me four transport assets total. I send one to Andorra to camp. I level with the Finland Army to allow WAIF troops to help them. If they let me come, I send over 1st Cavaly and 1st Armored (My heavy tanks) and 1st Infantry (Commandos). If I can get the Fins can contribute the bulk of their mounted and special forces (at least 2 medium tanks, and two commandos) we go for a full scale liberation of Norway.

I also call upon the Eastern and Western Armies of the United States to cover me while I'm away (although I still have two special operation units in reserve).

In case anyone is wondering why I have all three of the #1 divisions, it's becuase I've based my army off of the current III Corp (fondly called the counterattack corp). Currently, it's made up of 1st armor, 1st cavalry, 1st infantry, and 4th infantry. I've added in the 34th Red Bull division for my third unit.

President Masenak condemns the hostilities of the world, and pledges US support of all besieged nations and asks for additional countries to join WAIF.

On the topic of flavor, equip troops with new uniforms.

And a suggestion for tracking research, simple idea.
If we research, we get a counter, for example I donate 1000 to Gauss Rifle Research, it becomes
1000/5000
instead of
0/5000
Title: Re: Countries At War - Alternate
Post by: Emperor_Jonathan on September 16, 2009, 12:52:35 am
I'm not not tracking research because it's too difficult or it'll take too long, but because it gives no in-game bonuses.

Plus if I were to track research, I would need to build a tech tree.

Welcome to GDR, Global Defense Radio
"Helloo earth! This is your Global Radio, and we're just broadcasting crap! I mean news! Now on the first matter, our commandos look awesome! Second, we probably won't reach Gauss Rifles until 200 years in the future.

Also, you don't need to make a Tech Tree, you could just put up some preset Ideas, like Space involved types would use 15000$, Armor and Vehicles are be 10000$, and Weaponry takes 5000$
Title: Re: Countries At War - Alternate
Post by: Strife26 on September 16, 2009, 05:24:32 pm
I don't like the idea.
It's unbalancing first of all, where would they fit in? Breaker or AbI? Balance in a game like this is tough enough.
Second, it's more work for the EJ.
Third, it's unrealistic. Wonderwaffen aren't used in war; you produce the stuff you have with improvements in the greatest possible number.
Title: Re: Countries At War - Alternate
Post by: Phantom on September 16, 2009, 05:26:05 pm

Title: Re: Countries At War - Alternate
Post by: RAM on September 16, 2009, 09:23:05 pm
This is still a trail run, if we can figure out a good way to implement research then I am all for it, but we should avoid overcomplicating the game at this point.

one idea:
You can get +1 on your rolls for a specific type of unit, lets say light infantry($200), for something like twice its purchase price($400) with additional research multiplying that cost($400 $800 $1200...) and if you fight someone with more than two research levels above you you can steal most of it and get half-price research until you are one level below what have encountered...
Title: Re: Countries At War - Alternate
Post by: Phantom on September 16, 2009, 09:33:44 pm
I'm still open on my offer to track research.
And some things that we could research (If it comes into play) would give one bonus, but negate another ability, Gauss Rifles are accurate, but they ain't much in firepower, Power Armor is good for keeping you living but you are basically a turtle, light armor that protects you lightly would make infantry travel by foot faster but easier to kill.
Title: Re: Countries At War - Alternate
Post by: Emperor_Jonathan on September 16, 2009, 09:47:17 pm
I have an idea for a tech tree/research.

The tech tree would be private to the different countries, they would all have the same tech tree and it is possible to share techs, or share the actual tech tree you have (with my permission). The tech tree would, at the start, be unknown to all, except for a few techs at the start. These techs would lead to more powerful techs, which may unlock more units, improve money gain, reduce the cost of certain units or improve existing units. The techs would have a small description, however the cost and improvement would be also unknown. Generally the descriptions would be enough to know what each tech does. Each turn you can put a certain amount of money, which would be up to you. The cost and improvement would be designated beforehand, once you spend enough on the tech you'd attain it.

What are the movement limitations? Do ships/planes have a maximum speed or range?
What can infantry/tanks cross unassisted?
Can you perform multiple attacks with the same unit in the same turn?
Title: Re: Countries At War - Alternate

What are the movement limitations? Do ships/planes have a maximum speed or range?
Ships do not. Infantry and Tanks can only move to an adjacent territory. Unless assisted by a ship/plane. Planes do not have a strict maximum, but if you use one that goes over a reasonable limit I'll tell you.
Quote
What can infantry/tanks cross unassisted?
Land, not water.
Quote
Can you perform multiple attacks with the same unit in the same turn?
Yes, but you get disadvantages for each multiple attack.

(2nd attack -1, 3rd attack -2 etc.)

Anyway, I'll get on this today. Tech tree hasn't even been started yet. If you guys have ideas for techs PM me them. A name and perhaps a short description would be nice. Remember, the techs don't have to be military in nature.

I guess I'll pay to heal my men, Which comes out to... $260 million. Gah.

I'll spend the rest on a med tank division. Everyone's sitting still this turn.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
To the people of the world:(mostly the lower classes who will probably be more interested in revolutionary talk...)"The People of Kenya have suffered too long under a corrupt and oppressive regime, as have we all! They have taken up arms to defend their rights and The Brotherhood now rushes to their defence, and we will let nothing stand in the way. Soon all the peoples of the world will be freed. No longer will you be slaves to the whims of the rich and powerful, never again will you lose friends and family in pointless bickering between nations. The Brotherhood has risen and we shall bring you a new world, a better world, a world for the future!(much cheering in the background)"
We will spread rumours that we pressed through Tanzania and were attacked on the way before we rushed to the defence of the Kenyan rebels. Also we will adopt black uniforms with trenchcoats and an insignia with a curved horn.

Title: Re: Countries At War - Alternate
Post by: Heron TSG on September 25, 2009, 07:58:07 am
You could make a table.

Anyway, I'd like to fix up my planes, bombers, and then fix as many of the infantry as possible before attacking Belize once again. I'll leave two units of regular infantry to defend while I am gone.

Is there anything specific you don't like about them? Or are they just sort of irritating...

You could try keeping the first post updated with the player summaries and include a link to the first post, leaving the new turn posts only having the actions...

Uh, use the Battleship to get them there.

Like risk, no splitting up territories. You either have it all or not at all.
I'll buy two 2 Commando Divisions, and a Heavy Tank Division.

To Luke Prowler, Ruler of Russia.
"Why the unprovoked assault? What have we done to affend you?"

To Russia, From High Khan GruffyBears, leader of the Mongolian Empire,

With your permission, I would move troops through your landmass to attack North Korea, when the time is right. Any support would be appreciated, although I must have the country, as I need a country with access to the seas.

With Regards,
High Khan GruffyBears.

My Actions:
Recruit a Regular Battalion.
Send Regulars to attempt to annex Japan peacefully, if there is any resistance, retreat immediately.
Put 500 into Supergun research.
Build 1 flock of transports and 1 of fighter-bombers.

Hey? Hello? Master Khan of Mongolia, I assume you haven't heard, but im scoping out and possibly invading NK, im planning to reunite Korea.
Oh, and my Intelligence Ops are so good right now...

Fore the turn after this turn: Train One/Two commando's, send them to Morocco, hopefully I can train troops in Libya.

Train 2 light infantry to commando $600

Start off shore bombardment of panama, then send everything but the light infantry to do a systematic.

Have the bombardment start on the southern side to open a path into panama then have the barrage sweep the area ahead of the forces. the fighters with provide support. if i cant take it over then bombard the Panama canal until it is usless.

Actually, there's no real need to take over Panama anyway, since it seems that our ships travel at light speed.

1 Medium Tank, 1 Regular Infantry. Send receipt to the little door which certainly doesn't lead to a secret bunker. Nope, no secret bunkers here, just a plain ol' door.

EDIT: I'll also scout out Finland, for the case that they are about to attack. Just ignore any scouts you see going out of the plain ol' door.

INW is out. His territories are up for taking.
