Title: How many of you guys that know Touhou already?

What the hell, did the niche for DF and the niche for laz0r-spewing-rories & 17-years-old (Yukari :|) just met up?

I'm just gonna say this before going to bed.

Touhou as a game is decent. It's premise is terrible. The music IMHO sucks. The fans I've met are all "I wish to be the little girl" and it's filled with irritating electronica-wannabe music. And my old roommate at uni that used to play it was a straight-up pedophile weeaboo.

EDIT: Touhou's been around for awhile. I blame 4chan for spreading it beyond Japan.

Search for the remixes in Youtube.

If that's not something extraordinary (Damn, there are thousands of them...), I don't know what else (DF, perhaps?)

Touhou is amusing, and the creators are clearly assholes determined to torment their players as much as possible.

Music's good - no question. It might be one-sided because the music team is basically one guy with a (dated) synthesizer, but he never fails to amaze me. The story at least is tongue-in-cheek and the world he creates... well, there's got to be a reason for the massive number of doujins even after the h-stuff.

But, counter-question: Who here actually heard of Seihou? Probably far, far too few.

It's basically also danmaku, but with an emphasis on fewer, faster bullets, male AND female characters, ZUNmusic as well and a scifi theme, so that you seldom have these characters actually on field, with the main character being the sole exception.

Worth a look if you like shmups, I guess.

Any particular versions ye guys would suggest? Haven't played one before and looking at the wiki page shows like 20 games.

 This is how I feel as well. I suppose it depends on how open one is to the plot and how long they can take techno music before going insane. (http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1916586) Do note I don't dislike the premise, and if it were in a non-anime skin I would likely...
 Actually, I would probably ignore it under any other skin. While I do like stupidly difficult platformers this just doesn't feel terribly fun. I dunno. I suppose I just really, REALLY dislike games with small hitboxes and expects you to take advantage of that all the time.

Easiest: PCB (Touhou 7) and IN (Touhou 8).

Hardest: UFO, EOSD, SA/MOF.

Eh, take it with a grain of salt.

Also, PoFV is UNIQUE. At least play that first before complaining!

PoFV is also relatively easy last time I looked, and it can be played with multiple players.

IN's only easy if you go lolborderteam. It's also... complicated. MoF is relatively easy. SA? HARD. But unique (in terms of patterns) and fun. EoSD is vanilla and old, so... take with grain of salt.

I'd recommend you start with Perfect Cherry Blossom.

I know Touhou! The characters are all ridiculously overpowered little girls and the story is just an excuse to go shoot people, but the soundtrack's good and the firing patterns are beautiful. I like the pretty blinking lights.

Tell the truth, I mostly play Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, with a bit of Scarlet Symphony.
The characters are awesome though. (Sakuya, Alice and Marisa♥)

My favorite Touhou character is probably Sakuya.
Second fave is Marisa and Alice, tied.
Third is Remilia.

The games are mostly grinding arcadey games. Therefore awesome.

Music is okay.

I've played some Touhou games. I'm not very good at it, but I've played some. But I do agree parts of the fanbase are...strange.

But... Dwarf has a point. He's just expressing an opinion.

All of them are products of japan, it's just that some are far more fucked than others.

Though "tentacles" has been around for thousands and thousands of years, wierdly enough.

What exactly is Touhou? Its apperently some flashy game about little girls shooting things at eachother with techo music but I cant seem to figure out any more then that!

I watched a youtube video, and that appears to be the ENTIRE game.
Lots of energy bullets in glowy patterns. And very little room to dodge.
Theres new newgrounds game Pyroblossom which plays similar.

Last night, With intense sinus pressure, I got up from my bed, walked downstairs and watched videos(some touhou, some newgrounds, ect).
