Title: Mercenaries:Baptism By Fire
Post by: Phantom on November 02, 2009, 12:02:13 am
This is like Little's Revolution game, but a few things different. And hers doesn't update much.
____________
You were sent to an area in South America, somewhere near Colombia and Venezuela. The name of the country isn't that important. Whats important is your job.

Some time before you were issued the job, the country use to have a corrupt Dictator, who was elected when one of his lackeys tampered with the votes. He ruled the country with an Iron Fist, he let none leave or get in.
One could get executed just for annoying a government official. A resistance front rose up, but the conflict barely rated anything more than a small riot.
A man, who shall be called the The Dealer, was selling drugs within the country. With the money he got with the drugs, he bought a lot of weapons, sold them to many sides. Mercs and other foreigners got caught up in the conflict. It got even more bad when someone hired by The Dealer shot and killed the Dictator.

Then thats where I come in.
While I was visiting Venezuela, I got a job from a bunch of weapons dealers. They said The Dealer was ruining their cash flow, and the Government was willing to back up their deal. I also had to kill some other guys, also responsible for the conflict.

The country was FUBAR. The factions were willing to shoot anyone.
I stayed in a city called Eredinas, it was one of the places under Cease Fire. Due to a problem in the country, the only thing worth stuff was gold.
I got an advance payment of 10 gold bars before I got into this shit hole.

Simple mission, really. All I have to do is kill The Dealer and four other targets.
Manuel Gomez, who is an official in the Resistance front, in fact, he's its founder.
Julio Cortazene, right hand man of the countries new leader, Fernando Rodriguez, another target. The final target is a soldier who gone rogue, I don't know why I have to kill him.

Sometimes you have to press on. Get a turbofan and some triple redundant control systems. A titanium bathtub'll help too.

Alright, Torvolds the Merc.
________
   Journal Entry One
Hot. Mosquitoes. Faction members are pissed of all the time.
I wonder how most survived after the military crackdown. My mission is pretty simple.
The main objective is to kill The Dealer, and if I kill the secondary targets I get more money.
After those tangos become FUBAR the other factions will go down hard, I get my money, and the country is at peace again. Its a win win right?

Now my assets...
I have an FN FAL with 9 clips. I met some guy named Sid, he agreed to come with me here. My secondary weapon is a bolo, not sure how a knife is gonna helpe against guys shooting at me.
The body armor might help though.

____________
Please provide actions, you may also provide actions to allies.
Oh, and Sid asked me to think of a name for our Merc group, don't know why.
Bar is to the north, and I'm already standing outside the Arms Depot. Faction HQs is to the east. Nothing much here in the western sector except for other people willing to give me work. Now I have to find The Dealer...

_______________
Name:Torvold
Age:26
Gender:Male
Ethnicity:Scandinavian
Equipment:FN FAL with 9 clips, 10 if you count the one in the gun.
Skills:Can shoot pretty straight, a bit rusty with CQC but still good.
Allies:Sid, he's pretty reliable.

Pull out the bolo and get a feel for the handle and balance. Check over the rifle. Is it clean? Action okay? What're the sights set for? Am I carrying 20 or 30 rounds default clips, or some other STANAG (The FAL is one of a number of rifles that can take the standard NATO magazine config).

Then go into the arms depot and look around. What's my buddy carrying?
Title: Re: Mercenaries:SouthAmericanConflict
Post by: Phantom on November 06, 2009, 12:55:28 am
Clean, good, ordinary iron sights. 20 round clips.

You see an Arms Dealer, not the one your supposed to eliminate. The area is filled with various crates, and boxes of ammo. The Arms Dealer is willing to give you a mission, and he is prepared for you to buy some arms.

Currently, Sid only has grenades and a Bowie Knife.

First, you can't start with a weapon, thats decided by choice. Second, this is an adventure, not a roleplay, which means any can be controlled. If I were to make a role play version, i'd make one.
And allies are existing characters and other characters I specify.

"Background information? What the hell? I'm an arms dealer, just starting out. The job is to go with this other merc and steal a bunch of arms from another depot. Heres his dossier. The depots contains a lot of AR15s and M1 Garands. I only have some AK-74s and Skorpions, thats the reason I want you to go get those arms.

You want information on the arms of the thugs? Which area? Here, the north, east, west, or south?"
YOU HAVE GAINED AN ALLY

"Define steal. Would you like the area destroyed and everything I can grab taken, or something stealthy and a few crates removed? If you want it large and profitable, I'll need to borrow a decent cargo truck or two. In either case though, I'll need 3 of your 74's and one skorp up front. 25 mags for the Kalash, and five for the machine pistol."

((The bloody Arms Dealer))
Editing in turn...
"By steal, just do whatever you have to do to get the arms. There will probably be already a truck near the arms anyway.
One AK costs 5 Gold bars, a Skorpion costs 3. Any gun comes with 10 free clips. You can give me one more gold bar to add 10 more clips to an order."
*Horn honking*
"Heres Mike with the Assault Jeep he stole."
You look outside to see a man with a Balaclava and a US Woodland Camo BDU. He's on a Willys MB with a PKM as a mounted weapon.

((Do I start with any money?))

"Look at it this way, there are three possibilities here. First, you don't let me use the weapons. I don't do the job. There's no profit there for anyone. Option two, you don't give me the guns but convince me to try the job. I get my ass killed or captured. You gain nothing but tipping off your rivals. Three, you give me the guns, I storm the compound, take everything that isn't bolted down. You easily gain more than the four guns, plus you get my appreciation."

Meanwhile, in the jeep
*horn honking*
"Hey, can you guys hurry up in there? Please? Look, its not like 12 guards are gonna kill us off that quickly. They are basically just bribed police armed with Mossberg 500s, Ithaca 37s, and Makarovs and M9 Berettas."

Meanwhile in the bar...
A bartender goes over to a mercenary who passed out.
"Hey, girl. Girl. Elizabeth wake up."

Meanwhile, at a cliff overlooking a river...
"C'mon Tyrone, take the shot"
The man tries to turn off the radio
"I heard you trying to turn it off jackass, now take the shot at the bloody shot at the gasoline tanks on the barge! Or at least the TNT or C4."
"Oh, I get it. Permission to speak asshole."
"Fine, be that way, screw you. Your not getting anymore support."

"I'm not the sort to take any type of hostile position with one rifle and a sub-machine gun. I'll settle for the grenades and two AK's though. Next, background. What can you tell me about the depot? Who's running it? What's your problem with it? Mike was nice enough to tell us the opposition, but what kind of support do they have? I'm not going to take down a chopper."
Title: Re: Mercenaries:SouthAmericanConflict
Post by: Phantom on November 09, 2009, 12:57:56 am
"Jesus, you ask a lot of questions."
Mike comes through the door,
"Alright, you've been bothering Francis enough I might as well explain stuff.
The depot is near the river, west of us. The guy who's running is some rogue guerilla. He's a wild card, he assaults any side and sells to any side. Recently, he attacked a convoy that was owned by Francis, and thats the reason there are only Skorpions and AKs. And the only other things that may try to kill us are probably one or two stole SEAL Team Assault boats, but there are no guns on it.
Hey, if you accept the job, can you take the boats down south to a port, I might need those in another mission."

"So what are you waiting for, take the mission or go."

Mike and Sid get a AK each.

"Okay. Gameplan. You'll be dropping me off just out of sight of the compound, then give me thirty minutes to flank them. Close and mow down anyone standing or shooting. After one minute of firing, you are to switch to AK's and go for precision burst. I'll be moving in then to find and kill and C and C areas. Do NOT shoot me. One minute later, you are to proceed into the camp. We will then clear the area, steal everything that isn't bolted down, grab any prisoners that are still alive, level and vacate the area. Any questions?"

You're playing this with dice rolls?

And they're hitting us, in a moving car, with either pistols or shotguns (comparatively, you're hard pressed to hit something at 50 Meters with any of the listed weapons, while the UMP shoots 100 M, the AKs and FAL are supposed to be effective up to 600, and the PK has sights for up to 1500)

Title: Re: Mercenaries:SouthAmericanConflict
Post by: Phantom on November 10, 2009, 09:21:43 pm
Alright, 12 guards... this shouldn't be hard.

You fire at some guards. you kill one but you hit an arms container.
Mike yells at you.
"HEY ASSHOLE I MIGHT NEED THAT!"

Mike fires his UMP at the other guards, he also hits one.
Sid misses by 2 feet.

The guards fire back, one with a shotgun and another with a pistol are giving supressing fire.
All 3 of you are hit.

Mike: Health: 81% Ammo: 24 rounds
Sid: Health: 85% Ammo: 27 rounds
You: Health: 77% Ammo: 17 rounds

You hide behind a group of crates by the dock, oh look the assault boats, hey one has an M60 mounted on it!
Title: Re: Mercenaries:SouthAmericanConflict
Post by: Strife26 on November 10, 2009, 09:24:34 pm
Why hasn't Mike hosed everything standing with the PK yet? How does Sid go about missing with a rifle at pistol and/or shotgun range? How do you give suppressive fire with a pistol?

Keep firing. Normal bullets won't light off any explosives in normal situations (and I'm not going to let you suddenly claim everyone is firing tracers). Running to a light machine gun that's mounted in the open and that may or may not be primed/loaded is a bad idea when I don't have anyone of my own to cover me.

"DID I FORGET- *ducks* - TO MENTION THESE ARE TRAINED SWAT TEAM MEMBERS!?"
"BESIDES, ITS HARD TO HIT THE ONES IN THE GUARD TOWER! OE THE ONE "
Another policeman with a Saiga 12 comes out from a steel building, followed by a heavily armored one with a K2.
You see the M60 has rounds inside it.
Mike begins laying down suppressive fire with the PK. Sids AK jammed.
He tries to unjam it but its still jammed.

Mike should be smart enough to hit the tower with the MG. I hit the guys coming out with my pineapples, one to each. The guy with the K2 first.

Getting up and running in a firefight where you're outnumbered is suicide.
Title: Re: Mercenaries:Baptism By Fire
Post by: Sensei on November 10, 2009, 10:31:18 pm
/me Says nothing about how the arms dealer would surely have mentioned that the enemies were elite SWAT soldiers if he had the information to know exactly how many of them there were, and that if he was so brazen as to attempt such an assault surely he would willingly allocate all of his firepower to the task. Neither does Sensei mention that the SWAT only operates inside the united states, in the form of local chapters, and that any out-of-state special forces would be associated either with the military or CIA.
