Is it possible, I'm trying to donate my remainder, but it just won't validate it. There's $5.30 aud left, I've tried 4.91 usd, 4.90 and 4.70 so I don't think it's a conversion problem.
EDIT: Actually, I don't think it's been verified yet.
Doesn't matter now anyway, I think those fuckers charged me $4 for the decline. Oh to be a bank exec. I've emailed them a nice letter.

Yeah paypal took it all in $1 fees, I failed to allow headroom for the 'currency conversion' % they take. And by the time I did allow more headroom, they'd already taken all my money. If Toady took a $1 fee for each transmission we sent, he'd be a banker. There's a lesson on how to make money: make money. Thank fuck for the recession.

Introducing: More reasons to dislike PayPal.

They're bastards, I wonder where's the competition.
-
Yeah, don't donate in small amounts. I'd love to donate $3 every month, but that'd mean that Toady would get like $10 in a year. Better to save it up and donate $30 a year, where he'd keep $28 or so.
All the money transfer stuff do that these days, so if you find any competition, they'd probably charge the same.
-
Or find some other way to donate, but... that might be a problem overseas from Toady. I live in the US so I could probably just mail him a check. Granted, there's still the cost of a stamp. I wonder if there are other ways to do it electronically.
-
There'd be a point where sending a cheque/money order by post even from Australia would be cheaper. Flat $1.20 or something I think an overseas stamp is. Whereas paypal charges about 30 cents plus 3% plus 2.3%(currency conversion charge). But this was just leftovers from a prepaid card I was trying to donate. What gets me is the exorbitant fees for failures. I could probably send the rest, but that'd amount to about 90cents or less heh.

The way I figure, it's almost 2010. If it's free to write checks, or to use a debit/credit card in general, or to send electronic checks, get a bank check, or a billion other ways of using/sending money, there should be some sort of way to just wire somebody money for free. If there's not, that's kind of silly.
The way I see it, principles aside, if there were a free method by which to do this, it would make sending small amounts easier, and a lot of people throwing Toady a few bucks each could add up over time.

Yeah it's just a $0.44 stamp for me because I live just a few towns over from Toady. I donated once and just mailed him a check.
Something tells me we could get along just fine without a single exotic financial instrument in the whole world. Even if life in general didn't get better, it would be nice to know there's that much less flim-flam.
