Title: Zombie swarm game.
Post by: sonerohi on December 05, 2009, 12:12:48 am
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is your base. There are five of you soldiers stationed here, hiding after the zombies came. There's a seemingly-endless crate of ammo in the center of things. Your fort is solidly built, metal and stone. You're in a small clearing in the middle of some woods too thick to see through.
The Zombie Swarms are coming.

If not obvious, I didn't plan this out carefully to ensure balance. Rules are subject to change to prevent exploitation and to cover unforeseen circumstances. Every player starts with $60. Resources can be pooled around as wanted. Every player gets to choose 1 perk at the start. Any suggestions are welcome.

Name: Griff
Color: Red
Perk: Fearless
Weapon: Firemans Axe

Pooling remaining $20 towards something special for someone, like a starting AK ^_^

Okay, game question - Value of constructs, map details please. Why would we want to build walls, can we explore the woods, and can zombies only come from the openings or also directly from the trees?

You mean 5 left over, because you start with 60 and you buy a pistol, which is 55$.

My bad. I mean there is twenty five. I'm throwing my random five into the pot, just so someone could buy something useful with it.

Which Fragbait blew on a nade.

Name: Yorrick

Color: Purple

Perk: ((If I can suggest one: Lure: (Zombies have a strange tendency to stop what they're doing, ignore everything, and move directly towards you, ignoring all other possible targets.) The idea being that a zombie might randomly run past the entire rest of the team to end his movement 1 panel away from me because he randomly thought it was a better idea. Or might stop gnawing on the one fortification blocking an ally from death to come charging around a corner at me instead even though he doesn't even have sight of me. The flip as well, where zombie hoards will single mindedly appear to try and down me, especially if I'm in a bad spot. Otherwise, I'll go with Fearless.

Item: Fireman's Axe, remainder of money goes into the group fund I guess. I suggest we save some for Fortifications and such. Having a happy little wall maze (Can they destroy walls?) with carefully positioned fortifications would be nice. You should also make it possible to build doors. Those are really required for buildings to be 100% useful.

I'm saving my own money, I'll pool it after I buy an AK/find a decent weapon from the zombie corpses.

You all quickly get to know each other and found out that you have weapons enough to fight, that John has $5, and that the rest of you can scrounge up $5. You find an odd part of the ammo dumpster that looks like a weapons vending machine. Shortly after the introductions, you see  some zombies coming. 12 in number, the first horde approaches!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Be specific and aim your shots. After a zombie wave is defeated, I'll give you info on it.

Quickly observe the horde if any of them are Police or Military.

Shoot at their kneecaps, shoulder joints, or foreheads.

((Errr, did I get Lure? Fearless? Errrr... I see someone got an AK. I think the people with axes should take top and bottom doors, and then... ))

Yorrick glances around shiftily. "Uh, yea, guys, does anyone else see a weird... thing outside in any other direction? Or is it just me as usual."

He look at the axe he had grabbed off of the lodge's wall, with scratches on it.

"I think I'll uh, wait here. Wait near the door for them to uh, be prone. Or something."

[Move 1 N, cower behind wall. If possible, be ready to slash axe at first Zed to break through nearby window or door. (That is a door, right? Why the hell would this cabin have no doors.)]

Quickly observe the horde if any of them are Police or Military.

Shoot at their kneecaps, shoulder joints, or foreheads.

All zeds, unless otherwise stated, are civilian. Also, please pick a singular target of the type listed.

The closest. Do we have to reload? In addition, how many bullets does a pistol carry?

John looks around.
"Hey, that zed was the one who stole my beer in Malton! Asshole!"
Lesson one, never mess with johns beer.
"At least I still got my service pistol. But no knife. I was called Private Stab me back in malton. First few days I had psychopaths trying to stab me to death. And I miss the Burchell Arms Regulars, that beer was great."
Lesson 2, John fought in the Malton outbreak. And the Monroeville and Borehamwood outbreaks.

Move 1 square SW, and 3 squares south.
Attack the zed that is leading the group that came from the south.

Roderick nods slightly as he hears everyone talk and sighs.

"Lets just kill some zombies."

Move I believe one square northeast, and attempt to shoot any zombie in sight, aiming if I can.

Move one space South West and shoot the nearest zombie, aiming for its head.

Griff hefts his axe, and looks towards the others. He nods back to Roderick.

"Okay, I've got an idea."

Move to the south door. SE SE E E

"Since we don't want the zombies tearing down our valuable fortifications, we should let them in."

Kick open the door.

"HERE ZOMBIES ZOMBIES COME HEAD FOR THE OPEN DOOR."

Looking back at the others.

"I'd reccomend two of you stand like this. They'll have to come in single file, and with three guys on them they'll have no chance to get very far. If you don't feel like it though, I'll just block the door next turn myself."

((Actually, I may as well ask. There's a grey box with a dot in it 5 NE, 2 E from me. Could I ask if that's a zomb, or a treasure box or something? I'm not really sure -what- it is, since, you know. Text. Also, I guess I don't mind preserving our doors and fortifications right now- but uh. Yea...))

Yorrick glances at Griff, and pauses.

"Wait, I'm sorry, did I just hear that right? Are you saying we shouldn't hide behind the rather safe walls, and rather, should be letting the zombies inside where they'll be eatting our brains?"

He stares at the packs out the north and east of the cabin, and pauses for a moment.

"I mean... reaally? Can't we just... I dunno, chop up any that stick their hands through the fortifications?"

((Note; I agree with your statement. We should totally be applying some funnel tactics. However, given that I'm not really sure if I have Fearless, or Lure, I'm not sure which style I should RP as here.))

(For now, new applicants are on the waiting list, which is invisible).

John runs to his position, but has to catch his breath and cannot fire.

Griff sprints to the door and finds that it is some sort of MC Escher crap that is closed and open simultaneously and looks the same either way.

Roderick steps up to the fortification and fires. The shot connects, blasting into the torso (3) with a decent force (4). The zed looks shocked, but continues onward.

Fragbait steps up to the plate at his fortification and fires a quick three round burst. The first shot grazes (1) into its chest (7). The second shot slams (6) into it's torso (5+1). The final shot smacks (4) into it's torso (6-1). It stumbles a bit and falls down dead.

Yorrick, taken aback by the sudden rush of action, seems disoriented and afraid, but manages to bravely cower behind the wall.

(Addressing concerns: The box Prinny spotted is where my cursor was. For Phantom, I'm not going to make sure you follow the rules, I'll just screw you over when you don't.)

Prinny, if my character notices you have Lure (if you do)... well, things are going to get "fun". ^_^

So the zombies didn't move at all?
Title: Re: Zombie swarm game.

Aim another shot and fire! I believe I only get one aimed shot, but hey, headshots are pretty awesome.
Title: Re: Zombie swarm game.
Post by: Phantom on December 06, 2009, 05:42:55 pm
You said we can move four squares, and that was FOUR squares.
And, I aimed for a specific body part.
What the hell did I do wrong? Was it just coming into existence that I did wrong?

Go fire at the closest one in the south. Torso shots, kneecapping, and head shots.

"Ye gods, if they're just going to stand there like morons, I might as well head outside. Can't let you guys have all the fun"

I head outside, 2 moves, which gives me enough to store a quickshot against any zed the moves up on me.

((Griff, if my character has Lure, he's going to be having "Fun" on his own already- with a melee weapon, and having to deal with zombies? Yea. Anyway-))

Yorrick peaks his head through the door, glancing at the many zombies still shuffling around outside.

"Ah, uh. Maybe they're not quite aware we're here yet? I don't think we need to aaaaah!"

He suddenly shouts as he turns to see Griff running outside the far existentially confused doors. He glances back at the nearby zombies and a look of terror covers his face- leaving him ducking back to where he was hiding before.

"I don't think that's a good idea! They might bite you or something!"

((Moving 1 NE, confirming all Zeds are where they were before, and then 1 SW again to let them move closer. Also, guys, I think when you aim a shot, you have to aim at one body part or something.))

For no paticular reason, I need to know how much it would cost to buy/build a rope, and a basic wooden framework type thing, like so:
[]
Story 2 |^|
Story 1 | |
[
]

Where the ^ on top is a sort of crossbar we can tie the rope to, like if we wanted to hang something from it just out of reach of the zombies.

"Stop cowering and kill something!!"
"You're a pansy you know that? Being scared will only make zombies want to eat YOU more, which is good for everyone else."

Mechanics!
Every round, a player can move four squares,
move two squares and take a quick shot,
or move one square and aim a shot.
you chose one of the three options. So moving 4 squares means you don't shoot.

Well then nevermind.
But I'm still aiming for the torso, kneecaps, and head.
Title: Re: Zombie swarm game.
Post by: tehstefan on December 06, 2009, 10:22:36 pm
to clarify, I'm aiming for the head.
Title: Re: Zombie swarm game.
Post by: Archangel on December 07, 2009, 02:14:56 am
Fragbait makes a taunting gesture in the direction of the zombies.

Shoot the nearest zombie, this time aiming for the upper torso.

Also, do our weapons have limited ammunition or is the ammo box just there for show?
Title: Re: Zombie swarm game.
Post by: sonerohi on December 07, 2009, 05:34:13 pm
The ammo box is to explain away any ammo silliness.

@Prinny: LoS is shared between ye all, and inside your clearing everything can be seen.
@Phantom: RAM hit it on the head, and I'd like a singular spot if you are able to decide.
@Glyph: This iteration won't have z-levels, but I suppose you could make a fortification cage around him.
Title: Re: Zombie swarm game.
Post by: GlyphGryph on December 07, 2009, 05:49:35 pm
"Okay, every body, if they won't come to us, I'm heading to them. Cover fire would appreciated, just make sure not to hit me in the back."

I'm going to start advancing on the zeds to the south, one square at a time with a readied Aimed Shot to the head the moment they come into range.
Title: Re: Zombie swarm game.
Post by: GlyphGryph on December 07, 2009, 05:50:18 pm
Also, as we play, could you maybe have a non-spoilered image in the opening post for easy reference to the current positions of everyone? And a list of the players and colours?

a Fortification cage wouldn't be nearly as good, since we'd risk hitting him with the grenades we'd be throwing into the middle of the crowds.

Hmm... actually, I have an idea. The - are walls, the + fortifications, and the P is Lurebait.

Fine, incapacitate them through Kneecapping, then shoot them in the head. If I can't do both just shoot at its neck.

These are Infected (28 days later kind) or like those slow zeds?

Well, if they're slow and you can kneecap that, do that. We need a couple practice zeds for testing purposes - remember, knowledge is power!
