Title: TicTacFury
Post by: Cheddarius on January 15, 2010, 07:43:18 pm
Eons past, in an age long forgotten, a kingdom prospered.
Xion. The mighty Xians built their prosperity by the sweat of their brows and the strikes of their picks. Their empire stretched over the earth, bringing prosperity to all...
Until a fell darkness was draped over the land, drowning it in shadow. The Ooblites, an army a thousand strong, marched on Xion. They peaceful Xians were introduced to the cold bite of steel, the terror of siege. The Ooblites spread through the land, subjugating all in their path, until all Xion was laid low under their iron fist.
A paltry few Xian villages lay in the Hills Of Stone, far from prying Ooblite eyes. A small militia formed there, policing and waiting. A general was raised, by the name of General Filiusenox The Mighty, who saw the oppression of his fellow Xians...
This is his story.

RULES

There will be a General - probably whoever signs up first. The general can be switched out if he has other commitments or whatnot. The general will move up to 5 units a turn and control most decisions of the Xians (the general can be overthrown by majority vote if he's being a jerk).
Units will be controlled by the General or by the Players. Players can join freely at any time, though they will not necessarily be controlling a unit at all times. As stated, the General can only control 5 units at a time, so any extra units must be controlled by Players or will merely stand in place quietly blubbering to themselves. Player-controlled units will have double attack and armor, and maybe other bonuses. The Players can only control one unit each, excepting the General. The General gives units to players; if there are 3+ inactive units, they can be claimed freely.

General Movement
Each turn, each player will post here what their unit(s) will do. Units can either move or build. A unit cannot move the turn it is created. You start with 1000 resources.
The Fuse ability works like regular Tic-Tac-Toe: Get X (usually 3, specified by Fuse(x) ) of that unit in a row, and it can spend one turn to Fuse into a stronger unit. Two of the three players must state: "I relinquish control of Urist McUnit to fusion"; the third will control the resulting unit.

Combat
When a player enters the same square as an enemy, combat is initiated. Each turn, the unit can attack (use an attack ability) or attempt to flee. Combat and normal movement are seperate; you cannot build or move while in combat, and you (obviously) can't attack or flee if there's nothing to attack or flee from.

UNITS
Captain McPlayerName
100 hp
100 mana
10 armor
100 xp to level to General
Abilities:
Stab - 15 damage
Slash - 30 damage, 30 mana
Regenerates 10 mana per turn
Builds Barracks, Farm, Watchtower
Notes:
When the Captain dies, an Xian Footsoldier can be upgraded to a Captain after 2 turns of not having a Captain. The Captain's death has no effect on the General's decision-making.
Description:
Represented by a blue X. The Captain is a man with a mission: To overthrow the hated Ooblites and reclaim Xion for his people. Armed with a fine sword and clad in bronze armor, he is by far the mightiest of his clan.

Footsoldier
30 hp
20 mana
3 armor
10 xp to level to Archer, Wrestler, Swordsman, Axeman, Spearman, Acolyte
Abilities:
Punch - 5 damage
Fuse(3) - Soldier Of The Cross
Builds Farm
Description:
The Footsoldier is a grunt, a redshirt, an expendable, represented only by a black X. Clad in simple leather armor and wielding nothing but his fists, his only use is to level up.

BUILDINGS

Settlement - 500 hp
Upgrades:
Copper - 1500 resources

Barracks - 40 hp
150 resources
Trains Footsoldier (50)

Watchtower - 20 hp

Does nothing... yet. ;)

Oh, and by the way, I think of Xion as pronounced "Zion", and Xian as pronounced "Ecks-ian", like Mongolian or Indian. But think of it however you like.

Players:
Filiusenox(General)
Inteuniso(Footsoldier)
Nirur Torir(Footsoldier)
Cheeetar(Footsoldier)
RAM(Footsoldier)

Er, sorry, there's only one Captain unit, Captain Filiusenox, and he is under the control of the General, who at this moment is filiusenox.
You guys can duke it out over who wants to be General more or something
Also, Fili, do you want your guy to be named Captain Filiusenox, or Captain Fili or Captain Urist or something?
Title: Re: TicTacFury
Post by: filiusenox on January 15, 2010, 08:34:23 pm
I build another Farm.
and Capt. Filurist will do.
Title: Re: TicTacFury
Post by: Cheddarius on January 15, 2010, 08:37:42 pm
I haven't set the thing up yet...
Do you guys want me to make this in MS Paint or OpenOffice's version of Powerpoint? Or something else?

Anyway you start out next to your settlement, so you would build a farm and then move forward or something. Because like I said, showing someone standing on a building is tricky.

I am signing up on the waiting list for a redshirt.

Whichever is easier.

Post by: Cheddarius on January 15, 2010, 09:15:26 pm
Hmm, I guess the easiest thing would be to powerpoint it and port each image into Paint for the image.

Right, so Nirur Torir, you're now a player. Fili will assign you a character, since he's the general, once he cranks some out from the Barracks.

F = Farm
S = Settlement
X = Captain Filurist
? = ???

Resources: 950

Do you guys want story? Here's some:

Captain Filurist struck the earth, turning up the hard earth to build a farm. He scattered some seeds into the new furrows, then sat down for a rest. Looking off into the distance, he saw some figures. Curiosity overtook him, and he began the long trek to them.

Something unrelated:
I wish BLAKJERGEWA
Also, I wish you wouldn't cheat. Modifying your wishes until they're foolproof just makes the game no fun.
Title: Re: TicTacFury

I stop walking toward the figures and instead go south from my immedite sqaure and build a barracks.
Title: Re: TicTacFury
Post by: Cheddarius on January 16, 2010, 08:58:09 pm
Do you mean build a barracks and then go south?
Remember, you build then move to get off the building square.

Title: Re: TicTacFury

He began the long trek to the figures, but decided to turn south and build a barracks before continuing.
Title: Re: TicTacFury
Post by: Cheddarius on January 16, 2010, 09:54:22 pm
Oh, I see the confusion now. You can't move and build in the same turn (rules are now fixed). If you do choose to build, however, you will be forced to move immediately after in the same turn.

Also, do you guys want fluff (story)?

Title: Re: TicTacFury
Post by: Cheddarius on January 17, 2010, 12:48:46 am
Probably, yeah; as the general, he assigns units to people. If he decides not to give anyone units and be a jerk you can vote him out.
Also, if you guys want to replace him if he's acting too slow or whatnot, you can vote him out too. Basically 50% or more will vote him out for any reason.

(http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4050/turn3.png) (http://img687.imageshack.us/i/turn3.png/)

A screaming peasant runs toward you, followed by two Imperial (Ooblite Empire) guards. "Filthy panhandler! We'll teach you not to beg in the Empire!" they shout, laughing gleefully and waving their swords. The peasant is trying to flee to your farm, but he trips over a rock and falls on the ground unconscious. The guards approach you, grinning. "Come on, now, let us have our fun, and we won't hurt you."
Battle!
You should probably protect that peasant!
Then again, you could let him die, you jerk!

Peasant
20 hp
1 armor
Abilities:
Drool - 0 damage
Stay Unconscious - 0 damage
Generally Be Unhelpful - 0 damage
Description:
This poor peasant, being arrested for begging, lies on the ground, down for the count. You might want to keep him alive!

Captain Filurist
100 hp
100 mana
10 armor
100 xp to level to General
Abilities:
Stab - 15 damage
Slash - 30 damage, 30 mana
Regenerates 10 mana per turn
Notes:
In this battle, you can also toggle the ability Protect El Jefe, which will cause you to dive in front of the peasant, absorbing 80% of his damage (damage for both of you is rounded up).

Imperial Guard 1
35 hp
0 mana
5 armor
Abilities:
Stab - 15 damage
Description:
This vile servant of the Empire advances on you slowly, wearing the finest armor you can make from dead cow skin and wielding a wicked-looking sword. You almost soil yourself, you coward.

Imperial Guard 2
35 hp
0 mana
5 armor
Abilities:
Stab - 15 damage
Description:
Same as 1.

Also: Rule change! Making you move off of buildings is a dumb rule. I can put units on buildings, it'll just be a little awkward. Go ahead and build things as thou wilt!
Even more also: Lol empire cliche

I'm just going to give Nirur that role then, since it really doesn't matter.

Nirur Torir, Peasant, Generally Is Unhelpful. He lies on the ground, unmoving.
Captain Filurist leaps at Imperial Guard 1 and slashes at him! Imperial Guard 1, leather armor hacked clean through, suffers 25 damage.
Imperial Guard 1 ignores Captain Filurist, running over to Nirur Torir and stabbing him. Nirur Torir is wounded grievously for 14 damage.
Imperial Guard 2 hops on over and stabs Nirur Torir, finishing the job. Nirur Torir, unconscious, is killed and lies dead.

Captain Filurist laughs, knowing that he sacrificed a poor beggar's life to save himself, with his bronze armor, 10 damage. Whoop-de-doo.

Don't worry, you can just possess a new unit soon.
I was going to have him turn into a Soldier Of The Cross (an excellent unit, the one where you fuse 3 Xian Footsoldiers together), but it's all right. They're pretty expensive, but it's not like they're legendary red Gyarados or whatnot, you can get them whenever you want.

Ram, you're on the list.
Inteuniso, as I stated in the rules, the General is the captain. There is only ever one Captain unit.
But I guess Filiusenox could relinquish control of Captain Filurist to you and change his name to Captain Inte. However, Filiusenox would then not be able to control any units.

Peasant stubbornly refuses to help, and stays dead. What a prick.
Captain Filurist, screaming "FOR IRONBLOOD!", charges forward, running Imperial Guard 1 straight through with his sword. Imperial Guard 1 coughs up a little blood, then falls backwards, dead.
Imperial Guard 2, incensed at his partner's death, rushes at Captain Filurist and stabs him for 5 damage!

Captain Filurist, laughing madly, staggers back from the blow. IG2 breathes a sigh of relief, but Filurist was only faking! He rushes forward again and swings his sword mightily, cleaving IG2's head from his body cleanly. He considers mourning the death of the peasant he failed to protect. After looking around a bit for anyone nearby and seeing nobody, he decides to take a jovial dump in the peasant's corpse instead. He gleefully scampers about, wondering what his next move will be.

You can't loot corpses in this game, or equip things, or do things like that. Think of it as a turn-based strategy or RTS like Age of Mythology - you'll soon have many units all fighting.

I've run the numbers and you have 630 resources, I think, now. You just spent 200 on a farm and 3 soldiers. One soldier was produced.
Who do you want to give the new soldier (X) to? You can give it to anyone on the player list on page 1, including yourself. But then you have to do more work and people won't like you.

Oops, I guess I forgot to add you. You're now in your rightful place. Whenever Fili decides to give you a unit, you'll start controlling it.

X: Xian Footsoldier
XI: Logem Fulsartes, Xian Footsoldier (controlled by Inteuniso)
P: Ooblite head on pike; sign stating "This is your fate, Ooblite!"

Okay, I've changed the rules yet again. It doesn't actually do anything, it's just going to change how we display things.
Queuing stuff is hard. Therefore, instead of taking 150 resources and queuing three soldiers, I'll queue three soldiers, and take 50 resources every turn. That way, it'll be harder to have random parts where I've accidentally stolen huge sums of money from you.
Resource balance this turn:
630 resources
+100 resources (rule change, get 2*50 back because you haven't spent it yet)
-50 resources (bought Xian footsoldier)
+20 resources (2 existing farms)
=700 resources

Filiusenox, who do you want to give the new footsoldier at the Barracks to?
And person who receives it, do you want a name and special letter/color (I made Inteuniso's I for the first letter in his name)?
Also. There's a really annoying problem here: I have to make these tiny little letters to accomodate having a bunch of guys on a team. What do you guys think I should do about it? One partial solution I thought of is to have "squads", so that I could just put "A" on a tile and say Squad A: Captain Filurist, etc. Another useful thing would be to have each tile have 1 building maximum.
Forgot to give experience before - each Imperial Guard will give 10 xp, I think.

I still need some answers, guys:

Filiusenox, who do you want to give the new footsoldier at the Barracks to?
Person who receives it, do you want a name and special letter/color (I made Inteuniso's I for the first letter in his name)?
How do I lessen tile-clutter? Two thoughts I had are "squads" and only one building per tile - read previous page for elaboration.
Title: Re: TicTacFury
Post by: Nirur Torir on January 20, 2010, 01:11:12 pm
If he picks me, I'll take a lime green T named Nirur Torir.
Squads would probably work, and I don't see why there should be more then one building per tile.

You can only move one space a turn...
Do you mean move one space to the right for several turns (in case you go inactive or go on vacation or whatnot), then go left until you're done?

Yet another rule change: You cannot move and build on the same turn.

Also, alerting liege? No need.

Title: Re: TicTacFury
Post by: Cheddarius on January 20, 2010, 08:53:16 pm
What kind of one-liner do you mean, when you encounter them or when (and if) you defeat them?
Also, that's not really a command. I'm talking move, build, or (if you're in combat), use a fighting ability.
If you use light green for all your text here, you might put your commands in orange or something.
Of course you could just ignore me, it's not like I'll kick you out for not putting commands in bold or green or whatnot.

Filiusenox:
Where do you want to move, and who do you want to give the new unit to?

Also, guys, remember you can build farms and stuff. It is highly recommended.
Of course, if you don't, it's not like I'm going to overwhelm you with enemies. Actually, it doesn't really matter, because if you pave the map with farms and end up with a massive death-army, I'm just going to increase the difficulty, or else it would be too easy.

Or, we can stop playing by ear, and I'll plan out a fixed army so you'll be forced to be strategic. What do you think?

To prevent farm-spam, perhaps some tiles could be green-bordered/marked fertile? Half production on other tiles or something.
Title: Re: TicTacFury

I don't really see how that would prevent farm-spam, but sure, if people want it.
So guys, vote:
1) Should I make enemies harder or easier depending on how well you play?
2) Should I make some tiles more conducive to farming?
Title: Re: TicTacFury
Post by: RAM on January 26, 2010, 09:25:42 pm
Well, story-wise, adjusting the difficulty to the players could get ridiculous. But a relatively small setback could turn the game into a methodical slaughter of all the player's units. Maybe you could mix it a bit, build a fort based upon the current settlement, and once that is seriously threatened the rest of the empire notices and the tone of the game changes...

RAM, Inteuniso, and Nirur Torir charge into the fray. They spot an Ooblite Scout accompanied by a guard. The Scout poses no trouble, but the guard looks dangerous... and if the scout manages to flee and raise the alarm, there could be trouble.

The Ooblite Scout maps the terrain for the Empire, looking for rebels and natural resources. His only attack is a fumbling whack with his telescope, and he will flee when threatened.

The well-equipped Ooblite Guard accompanies the Scout on scouting trips. He deals decent damage with a blade, and can use his powerful Slash attack to cut down enemies.

Yeah. I mean, it can't really be called "caring" for the soldiers - it's not like they're thinking "Oh our poor soldiers, we have to give them arms so that they don't die", they're thinking more along the lines of "We have to give them arms so that they can kill rebels more efficiently".

That sounds like The Captains decision, but I would spare them, but make sure they don't have any maps to take back to the enemy, preferably give them a nice job on a farm, convert them, or drop them in the dungeon(is that what towers are for?).

I punch the guard in the red G...

I say again. Cut. Throats. Every last one of you.
You call for the scout to die. "Traitor!" "Murderer!" "Ooblite scum!" Consumed by your fury, you leap upon him, hewing him to pieces as his screams echo through the land. When you have finished, howling in victory, you suddenly notice that the guard has fled northeast. Your only consolation is 4 xp for each of you.

New law: Anyone surrendering themselves to a merge may take a foot soldier if one is free. If one is not, they shall have priority for taking one. This overrides the standard wait-for-three law.
New law: No building in the two diagonals to the upper right of the barracks. Those spots are reserved for barracks.
New directive: Build farms in the areas west of our tower. Let's plan for a wall on that longitude, with towers in front of it.

I relinquish control of Rurin the footsoldier to fusion.
I use an unclaimed footsoldier in Red Barracks Squad as the fusion focal point.
I relinquish control of the newly created Soldier of the Cross to Fili.

Alfred, the footsoldier at XF, will build a farm.
Captain Nirur Torir goes northeast.
A footsoldier from Red Barracks Squad goes south.
A footsoldier from Red Barracks Squad goes north.

That leaves one unclaimed footsoldier at the barracks.

Well, that's fine, I guess. Ideally the whole action would be in bold with Cheeetar mentioning the unit. When I have to scroll back through several pages to find everyone's action, it's just easier to find the bold ones and have everything very specific - I don't want to have to read everyone's plan to find out where the "point of fusion" is or whatnot.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM PAPA CHED
All things pass. Eventually, this game will end. You all know this. Eventually, I will die, if nothing else, and this game will end.
That being said, the great chance is that this game will end quite a bit sooner than that. Don't worry; I'm not suddenly pressured or whatnot. It's just that I'd like to get this out of the way as soon as possible. So, how would you like the game to end? Do you want it to just... stop? Keep it going as long as possible until I can't any more? Or perhaps you want it to die naturally. I can bring more and more dangers to bear upon you, and you'll all die under them, one by one. Maybe you want to go out in a blaze of glory, smashed by overwhelming force in one mighty blow, and fighting to the end.
So speak your voice, and (eventually), thy will be done.

Yeah, I guess the enemy must have a leader out there somewhere. But if we conquer the lands we need to remember to ruthlessly exterminate all the outlying regions we can't properly patrol...

You need to build a trillion farms and upgrade your settlement (see first post) to upgrade soldiers. Right now you're still in the Stone Age.

Captain Nirur Torir will build a barracks(Named Barracks 3) and set it to auto-train troops.
Red Barracks will cease auto-training units for the time being.
Footsoldier Alfred will go south.
Footsoldier Nanothnir will go north.
Footsoldier Logem Fulstartes will go northwest.
I abandon the Soldier of the Cross to be possessed.
I move as many soldiers as possible from Red Barracks Squad to the northeast.

New resource priority: If there is a resource shortage and a conflict between building farms and training footsoldiers, the farms will take priority.

Redwarrior, I request that you build a farm.
Question: Are units able to train against each other for xp?

This is long dead, yo. Way too hard to GM, and not that much fun to play.
