Title: Gryph's Quick Bastard: END. Everyone dies, Audience+Host win.
Post by: GlyphGryph on January 21, 2010, 05:28:00 pm
Sign-ups officially open Friday, tomorrow, at a random time!
For those who care... the order you sign up in and the time you sign and the time you sign up relative to the time sign-ups start may matter. ^_^

The game itself will begin Friday night of next week.

Each day/night cycle will be about 24 hours.
Anything not explicitly banned is allowed.
Addendum:This doesn't mean it will WORK, mind you, just that you won't be mod-killed, reprimanded, prodded, etc. And who knows, if you do something really out there it might just be crazy enough to work! It probably wont though.
It will be both deadline AND hammer.
Oh, and dead players aren't allowed to vote/post in the thread. Though I should add that one before trouble happens.

These are the entirety of the rules. (at least as they apply to limitations on the players I disallow, and as far as I am willing to divulge)

1. Vector
2. The Overseer
3. Webadict
4. Leafsnail
5. Rysith
6.

Box Seats sold to...:
1.Dakarian
2.Pandarsenic
3.RedWarrior00

Host:Gryph

Those interested in participating can feel free to start discussing now.

EVERYTHING NOT FORBIDDEN IS COMPULSORY

Though in more seriousness, I'll probably join when it's time.

Anything not explicitly banned is allowed.

I declare myself a winner of this game, e'en without signing up, and that no others be permitted to win in this manner.

I also declare my declarations unrepealable by others.

I declare, as many times as necessary to outweigh Leafsnail's single declaration and indelibly alter the rules, that my declarations' effects cannot be changed by means short of my own posts. I think I just kicked off a Calvinball mafia.

While its perfectly within the rules to declare you've won, that in no way means it will actually happen. Or that other players have to listen. :P

It's a bit like free speech  - you're allowed to say whatever you want, however you want, but that doesn't mean other people can't just ignore you!

According to the rules, editing posts is allowed. You might want to change that.
Title: Re: Gryph's Quick Bastard (Sign-ups NOT YET OFFICIALLY OPEN)
Post by: GlyphGryph on January 22, 2010, 02:44:15 pm
Editing posts ARE allowed - I just wouldn't recommend doing it, all things considered. If the players wish, they can choose to lynch people who edit - and when you edit, you open yourself up to people being able to succesfully misquote you!

Its stupid enough that with decent players like the people here, I don't see it being an issue.

Anyways, sign-ups have now officially opened!

I also have to say, I'm very dissapointed that no one signed up during the time after signs were NOT OPEN, when they changed to NOT OFFICIALLY OPEN, as they were clearly UNOFFICIALLY open once I specified. Tsk, tsk, to all you. I even went through the effort of saying that when you signed up relative to the official start time would matter!

You've robbed yourselves of a wonderful power role. I certainly hope you're more on the ball for the rest of this game.

Don't think I didn't make a note of him attempting to in before sign ups even unofficially started! I'm sure I'll make mistakes eventually this game, but not quite yet.

Also, you seem to be under the delusion that a lack of limitations grants you some sort of powers. Weird girl, CK. :P

Hmm, fine distinction, strange.

If not, then you're abusing language. My messing with the rules is not forbidden, therefore it is permitted. If the rules are not messed with when I attempt to mess with them, how am I actually 'permitted' to mess with them?

Think of it more like this - Say you are in a wheelchair.
I can allow you to walk, you simple can't. Even if I have a device that would magically enable you to do so, I am under no obligation to give it to you either.

In essence, it is the difference between "you are allowed" and "you are able".

In essence - if you can figure out where I am storing the (extremely tiny) Big Book of Rules and Roles that govern this game, and you can get in and edit the document, it is allowable for you to do so. But that's really the only way you could change the rules.

Sorry if I'm failing to be clear - I have to admit I'm not the best at communicating as I could be.

Anyways, about the timing thing, it basically worked like this:
From my rolebook:
Role 1, with associated powers.:
>6, <24 hours before thread officially opens, title is "NOT YET OPEN"
Role 2,the one you missed.
>0, <6 hours before thread officially opens, signified by my adding "NOT YET OFFICIALLY OPEN" to the title and text and tweaking a few things to put the list at the top.

I'm serious.   I'm supposed to be lynched.

I do not see how this "ruins things for everyone."  I mostly hear that your vote doesn't count.

Thus, either you are supposed to be lynched and are helping to "ruin things for everyone" as we speak, or you are spewing so much WIFOM as to need an incredible amount of ignoring.

Hence, I am ignoring you for now.

Now, for a little experiment...

Vector N. Glass shifts from foot to foot, kicking up a dusty smatter.  He's always been a Glass, that's his story; looking out for adventure, romance, and a place to hang his hat.

"We're fighting us a war of red roses," he mutters under his breath.  "Now all we need's a miracle."

He is slightly drunk on glory.  The hip flask is filled mostly with fumes, and though he'd drink more he's saving that last shot for the end of the world.  His sharp gray eyes will peer into eternity, and he'll drink... then BAM, hard whiskey for a soft finish.  No gin-flavored tears and sad tomorrows, turning into one of those wrinkled piles of flesh who play chess in the park.

No, Glass is going to be young forever... well, young-ish.  The hair by his temples is turning salt-and-pepper (dove on sware), but he still swears he doesn't feel a day past twenty.  Or is it thirty-three?  Whatever, who cares.  He's young enough.  Still spring enough to chicken.

He was supposed to be doing something, out in this cold time before dawn's breaking.  He can't remember, and he feels vaguely tangled up in his duster.

Right.

"You!" he says, gesturing wildly.  "Rysith.  What do you think we're doing here?"
Title: Re: Gryph's Quick Bastard IS NOW OPEN!!! Day 1: Gogogo
Post by: GlyphGryph on January 29, 2010, 08:40:17 am
The lights turn on in a blinding flash to reveal a large arena full of weapons, traps, and 5 sleeping bodies.

The announcer speaks from his podium.

"Welcome, welcome! As you can see, the show is about it to start!" As he speaks, the contestants begin to wake up. "I will be your host, GlyphGryph! Now let us introduce our contestants!"

"First, we have the wily and quick witted VECTOR N. GLASS! Give him a round of applause, folks!" he says as vector struggles to his feet.

"Then, we have the ambitious LEAFSNAIL! He went through a lot of trouble to be here today, folks, so lets show him how much we appreciate it!" There are few cheers from the audience.

"Everybody give a standing ovation to WEBADICT, the man in the brown robes and cracked ivory mask! A returning contestant, its nice to see a familiar face! Or not see, as the case may be!"

"THE OVERSEER is making an appearance today as well, so come on and put your hands together! Thanks for participating, Overseer!"

"And last but not least, the always conscientious and responsible RYSITH! We're sure he's already hard at work figuring out what is going on, and he'll be pleased to know all his abilities are now officially activated!"

"And finally, of course, a thank you to YOU, our audience! Without your financial contributions, our little show just wouldn't be possible!" The lights swing forward to illuminate those in the box seats, who smile and bow a bit.

"Now, let the games begin! You all know why you are here, and what you need to do to escape!

A few things to keep in mind, though..."

Okay, the game has officially started. It is now the start of day 1! (technically it was a couple minutes ago)

Everybody's powers now work, everybody's votes now count.

The audience will be happy to provide "advice" to help you along, but be careful about how much you trust it. The only stake they have in this game is personal amusement.

Unlike in normal mafia, dead players can't win! Ah well.

Did I forget anything... hmm...

Oh, PM all actions to me, don't post them here or in scum thread.

Days will last about (at least?) 24 hours between commercials, but its also related to when I show up. Until I'm here and have posted, the day is still going.

Have fun and let the blood flow!

Well Glass, I'm sure that in your world of miracles and roses, you can afford to stay young forever, but where I come from things are a bit different.

Where I come from, things were a bit harder, and that's all I've got to go back to once this case is over. I'm trying to survive here, trying to survive and figure things out, same as I always do.

Now then, we've got ourselves in quite the situation here, and the only way out is going to be working together. Does anyone have any information they'd like to share?

All I know is that they've wiped my memory and gave me a note with a 'U' on it. Other than that, I'm completely in the dark.

So, Mr. Overseer, what's your plan?
Title: Re: Gryph's Quick Bastard IS NOW OPEN!!! Day 1: Gogogo
Post by: dakarian on January 29, 2010, 12:56:22 pm
Well, let's get this started formally.

I not only dislike Vector's tone, but I know that the post after my first 'odd' post came AFTER he received his role.

Also, he's argues against the fact that I'm supposed to be lynched.

Rysith:

Find the scum, solve the puzzle, obviously. Bastard means something odd is going on on, so we need to figure out what. So, what things are different? - we have an official audience, who have been trying to cast votes and sow confusion but the mod said the votes don't count.

But he didn't recruit for an audience, people requested it.

So... Leafsnail, the green stuff calls you ambitious and said you WANTED to be here... any idea why?

The Overseer - I'm curious.  Who are you an anonymous version of?  I suppose I could try analysing your text, but my guess is that you are merely here to sow more confusion.

As for wanting to be here... I dunno.  Possibly because I pre-inned?

Suddenly, Rysith appears to be gripped by an invisible force. He is lifted into the air, and then slammed into the ground, and then sent flying sideways. With a gasp, he is impaled on a large, long spike, and he gasps no more.

Rysith has been killed by a mysterious force!

Woah that was fast.

Well, I did a bit of sleuthing, and I believe The Overseer to be an extension of GlyphGryph.  They have the same timezone and a similar posting style.  Since the mod would know who's in the mafia, I reckon there's no way he can be pro-town.

The other players round on The Overseer, angry. "Did you kill Rysith? Your out to get us all!"

He snarls at them. "I did, and I'd do it again! Mwahaha... you think killing me will be enough to save you! You fools!"

As the others advance, the maniacal overseer finds himself with his back against an empty pit.

"Oh. Uh... I'm not scum, don't lynch me?"

Vector looks to Leafsnail, then they both turn and kick him into the pit. Just before they do so, his eyes soften and for the first time real terror enters them. As he goes backwards he screams "Nooooo!" and then crashes into the spikes below.

The Overseer has been lynched!

Todays report:
Rysith, Master Investigator, townie, was killed by a mysterious force.
Overseer, Controlled Townie, was kill by a lynch.

It is now night!

Anyone who has actions they want to use, send them now!

Leafsnail is suddenly knocked off his feet by a mysterious power, but as he flies through the air he manages to catch himself on a nearby bar just before hitting a wall of spikes. As he hangs from the bar, the wall opens and two streams of flame shoot out, but too late... with a leap and a twist, he vaults over them and lands safely on the ground. He doesn't know what just hit him, but he knows that he somehow managed to survive...

Leafsnail barely avoided death at the hands of mysterious force!

Well, if it matters, I have an Ivory Mask on me that gives the opposite of what I really am on, but only for the first inspection. Any next inspections will give my true alignment.

I can't really prove it though, since I don't know my alignment. But, I am the one that killed Rysith (I had no idea what my abilities were), and I have access to the Dead chat, because of one of my abilities? I'm not sure, but Vector DID inspect me, because I have a mirror ability that make abilities work against people that use them on me. I got town, by the way.

Therefore, Leafsnail is the blue team. I actually just tried to kill him, but I failed. I can only hope that Leafsnail is in fact scum.

"No, sir... it's still tied, and we can't wait any longer. Going to intermission... now."

Welcome back to the show!

We had quite a bit happen during the break! Lets show some footage!

First, while visiting the bathroom, Dakarian had an "accident" with a particularly persistant automatic toilet. *cue video of horrific occurences* He flipped Lyncher Audience, by the way, and Pandarsenic flipped Deinonychus.

More related to the actual game, well... show the footage!

*Images of Leafsnail leaning against a wall, relaxing during the break. Suddenly, some lights start to flash, and the wall behind him opens up. Stumbling backwards, he manages to catch himself on the corners and begins pulling himself out. Damn is he persistant. Spikes, however, erupt from the edges, piercing his hands, and with a howl of pain he drops away into the blackness, a grinding sound fills the air, and a spray of blood shoots up the corridor to cover the area nearby.*

Right, I think THAT needs no explanation! Now lets get this rolling, shall we!?

Leafsnail has been killed!

It is now Day 3!

Suddenly, both contestants realize Leafsnail is gone... dead. They turn to each other, both realizing they must act quickly.

Due to his nature, Vectors gun is drawn and fired in one smooth motion. But the mind is fast than bullets, and webadict merely needs to channel his rage to bring his power to bear. As the bullet leaves his gun, Vector feels a tug at his body as he is sent skyward.

The bullet impacts, and webadict stumbles. As he drops to a knee, the ivory mask falls from his face to reveal a disfigured man with cold blue eyes. As the lifeblood leaks from his body, he hears a ripping sound...

Vector lands in the organ grinder, a device much like a giant leaf mulcher, but on fire. Pieces of him go flying everywhere.

As Webadict gasps for breath and his lungs fill with blood, a voice comes on over the loudspeaker.

"And that's game, folks! Thank you all for attending! If you want souvenirs, head down to the floor."

The audience chats amicable amongst themselves, some a bit worse for wear having had their own adventures during the intermission in the other entertainment complexes the facility provides, but all three very much alive.

RedWarrior looks down at the still struggling webadict. "Hey, this one is still alive!"

The host steps up beside him. "Ah, yes... a persistant fellow, this one. Third time returning champion. I guess he wins this one as well, though it doesn't look like he'll survive it." Angry, webadict tries to focus his mind, but the host leans down behind him. "Oh, don't struggle so much... your powers won't work on me now." Glyphgryph says, standing. He turns to the others, says something witty, and the others begin to laugh, but already the world is fading.

Turning back, glyphgryph slams the knife down into webadicts chest, and leans to his ear to whisper a few final words. "By the way, I was the scum."

Vector, town, has been killed!
Webadict, town, has been killed!

Scum Victory! Host and Audience wins!

Audience Chat /Scum Chat (Though note most of this communication went on via PM so theres not much there): http://www.quicktopic.com/43/H/Mt8umt8RW9Lf

Roles, Descriptions, Letters:

Vector:
As you explore the building, horrible clown faces looming in the shadows overhead, the lights start to turn on one by one. You jump a little, but keep your cool, carefully watching... "Ah, a visit-" you turn and fire, cutting the robed man off as a bullet slams into his face. The eerie ivory mask chips and a large crack goes from the top to the bottom. "-or." he continues, seemingly unphased. You fire off three more shots, each of them slamming into his body, but as he stands watching you feel your legs turning to jelly, and the air getting thick and hard to breathe. "A feisty one..." he says as your vision fades. "I like the feisty ones."

And now you've woken up, in a large arena, with several other people all looking disoriented as well. A voice whispers behind you, and you jump before realizing a small earbud is resting in your ear, and the voice is coming from that.

"Welcome to the arena. You'll notice that your memory has been wiped, for the most part, so I'll give you a brief overview of what you'll be doing today. One amongst these players is a member of blue team... the scum team, if you will. All others are a member of red team. If the blue scum dies, all surviving reds go home. If the red team is killed, the blue scum gets to live and return home. Your memories are returned to you whichever team you end up being on. Anyways, you don't actually KNOW what team you are on, though there are hints that will help you figure out anyone's alignment if you but look hard enough..."

Quickly checking your hip, you are comforted to know that your revolver is still there. Shielding it from the other players, you look down and notice that though your trusty sidearm is by your side, you only have one bullet left...

You are...
Amnesiac Investigator with a Happy Trigger Finger

Alignment: Unknown

Ability 1: Last Bullet You may kill a target as a one time action at any time, day or night. This is visible to other players.
Ability 2: Investigate Once per day/night cycle you may investigate a target's alignment.

Your letter is: N

Leafsnail:
As you wander into the building, bumping off of shadowed boxes and taped off areas, large signs that say under construction, and what looks like a boxing ring, a shiver goes down your spine. Suddenly, you see a man in a robe wearing a white mask with a grinning face. "Ah, a visitor. I must admit, you weren't expected quite yet. But, then... you'll do. Yes, you'll do nicely..." As you jump back, preparing to run, you hear the sound of gas escaping beneath your feet, and you vaguely remember falling...

Anyways, you don't actually KNOW what team you are on, though there are hints that will help you figure out anyone's alignment if you but look hard enough..."

Stuttering Amnesiac Investigator who Jumped the Gun
Alignment: Unknown
Agile: You are immune to kill actions, usually.
Investigate: Once per day/night cycle you may investigate someone's alignment.
Stutter: When using one of your other actions on another player, it occurs multiple times. In addition, you always come up as scum on the first investigate against you, though future investigates by the same player will reveal your true alignment.

Your letter is: O

Webadict
You don't remember who you are, or where you came from, or what you're doing here. But you're dressed in some sort of weird dark robe and ivory mask, and a voice is speaking into your ear.

"Welcome to the arena. You'll notice that your memory has been wiped, so I'll give you a brief overview of what you'll be doing today. One amongst these players is a member of blue team... the scum team, if you will. All others are a member of red team. If the blue scum dies, all surviving reds go home. Anyways, you don't actually KNOW what team you are on, though there are hints that will help you figure out anyone's alignment if you but look hard enough... By the way, to make things more interesting, I've dressed you in a silly outfit."

Amnesiac Mysterious Stranger
Alignment: Unknown
Ability: Unknown (Psychic Mirror - Whenever another player's ability is used on you, you immediately use the same ability on them.)
Ability 2: Unknown (Mind Probe - You may view the full text of another persons role)
Ability 3: Unknown (Telekinetic Rage - The target has a good chance of being killed, 50%
Ability 4: Unknown (Deathspeaker - You can communicate with the dead. Revealing this ability grants you access to the deadchat.)
Ability 5: The first investigation against a player makes against you always comes up opposite to your true nature, though subsequent investigations by the same player will be truthful.
Ability 6: Each time a player investigates you, there is a chance one of your unknown abilities will be revealed.

You may use one of ability 2, 3, or 4 each day/night cycle. Not all abilities necessarily target another player, but call a target when you use them just in case. Ability 1 is automatic, and does not require a target. Using an ability will reveal it.

Your letter is: S

The Overseer:
The Victim, Scum Puppet
Alignment: Town
Ability: If two players vote you, you are immediately killed.

You not have control of your body! The scum are using you as a tool to sow chaos, and you can't do a thing to stop it... and you fear that as soon as your usefulness is exhausted, they are going to simply cast you aside...

Your letter is: C

Rysith
A long investigation has brought you here, to this place. Finally, you can bring everything together. You knock on the door and flash your warrant to the camera that turns in your direction. The door clicks, but as you go to turn the handle the floor drops out beneath you, dumping you harshly onto a cold stone floor. Looking up, you see a grinning ivory mask, cracked just below the left eye. "Welcome. We've been waiting for you for quite a while. Are you ready to play." As you collect yourself to prepare a response, you feel your lungs seize up, and you notice a gas is entering the room through several holes in the floor. Soon, you fade into blackness...

And now you've woken up, in a large arena, with several other people all looking disoriented as well. A voice whispers behind you, and you jump before realizing a small earbud is resting in your ear, and the voice is coming from that.

Anyways, you don't actually KNOW what team you are on, though there are hints that will help you figure out anyone's alignment if you but look hard enough..."

Stuttering Amnesiac Thorough Investigator

Alignment: Unknown

Thorough Investigation: Once per day/night cycle you may investigate another players alignment. Your result is not immediate, but is revealed to you 24 hours later at the earliest. However, your result is ALWAYS true - abilities that would cloud your results do no work.
Investigation: Once per day/night cycle you may investigate someone's alignment.
Stutter: When using one of your other actions on another player, it occurs multiple times. In addition, you always come up as scum on the first investigate against you, though future investigates by the same player will reveal your true alignment.

Yours did happen - you killed Vector.

Actions happen when I get to the computer - when I got on, you'd both sent in actions. Yours WAS time stamped earlier, which is why in the flavour text had you killing vector, and ME killing you.

I just let his "bullet" action go off for flavour purposes, really - you lost the moment you were the last player left.

Vector, last player was supposed to have the ability to investigate two letters per day (and be the M), in addition to other abilities, but we never got one. The town would then have had NOSCUM and the host plus audience had HERE.

Vector,
Another interesting note, Webadict was just dressed in the robes + mask of the mannequin on wheels you shot, so technically that was your first bullet that hit him. ^_^

Well audience and host had roles that weren't concealed in any way - all you had to do was try investigating one and the puzzle would have been solved :P

And I thought the game was going to be too easy to figure out!

I'm also sort of surprised no one did anything with the letters...

And it did go pretty quick, but I think if youd had much more time you WOULD have figured it out.
Title: Re: Gryph's Quick Bastard: END. Everyone dies, Audience+Host win.
Post by: dakarian on February 03, 2010, 10:00:56 pm
I make the note that the title reads "QUICK Bastard" which suggested that it was going to be fast and brutal.

I also noticed that no one really goes after the 'guests'.  People used to go after the host but a GREAT many games punished the townies for doing so so I think that's no longer in style.

Sidenote: even with me as 'mafia' I still didn't figure out that the entire group was town oriented.

Second sidenote: it has been discussed in other places about games where the host is the enemy.  You somehow subverted the town into not going that route.

LAST thing:

Just to be official. I need the attendance record on this game.

It's your choice as to whether the 'guests' count as players, though no, the host doesn't count as one :P.

Attendence record is no prods, no replaces. Official.

What I found hilarious is that both remaining players KNEW the other one was town, thanks to their investigates! They both had it confirmed by another player (Rysith), even. And it yet it never seemed to strike them that the other might actually be town...

Another interesting note - Webadict had a reflect ability, so even if he hadn't made his 50% chance to kill, he would have caused Vector to incur the same wound he did, so it still would have been a simulkill.
