Title: Codes you created. Post em Solve em.
Post by: Huesoo on February 10, 2010, 02:45:25 pm
Well during agonizing hours of french I started thinking of secret codes and shit. I made my own and I think there quite fun to solve on x so I thought maybe I should bring some here! I started off easy and you should figure it out fast.

Teeaychee geeayemee, wyou eloestee itee.

Looks easy enough. Find atomic numbers, convert to letters. Let me just get my periodic table...
9 18-5-1-12-12-25 12-9-11-5 20-8-9-19 15-14-5
I REALLY LIKE THIS ONE

Sorry. Spoilered.
Also, some codes are just unfair. For example, if I were to make a Viginere-d text that was a short sentence - maybe 20 letters long - and my cipher key was 4 letters long, it'd be nigh impossible to find the key through frequency analysis, since the text was so short. Even if you knew I was using a Viginere cipher, you wouldn't be able to crack it.
Therefore, I propose that we use some conventions to make codebreaking easier. For example, Cthulu, I'm fairly sure that your second code

However, even if I am correct, it doesn't seem to work with

, so I cannot figure it out easily. Could you then just tell me if I'm correct?

Not as hard as schilcotes but you need to be quite cultured to get it.

I was thinking you add each string together, convert them to letters, and then there'd be some kind of code from that.

Anyway, Cheddarius.  You're on the right track.  The two lines above the numbers have something important to do with it, and you do not convert the numbers directly to letters.  There is no shift of one applied to the entire thing, but the numbers under the sentence have something important to do with it.

They probably should have been bolded, in retrospect.

This is something I threw together, it's not an actual code or cypher or anything.

Two of my friends have a game called snaps they learned from some chick flick, where you'd whisper a word to one, she would snap and say some silly sentences, and the other would know the word just from the snaps and sentences.

They eventually taught it to the rest of our friend group, but I don't remember how it went anymore.

I didn't create the cipher, it's mostly a challenge of finding the key, but here it is anyway:

That is a misconception sir.

Here's a counter example:
Bfteauiul agtlorlias wlil dlimoseh the uvernaisl fbcaris.

Only some of those are legible, because the words are obvious and easy to unscramble,
and you can use the word before as a clue to what it will be.

Like this:
I hvae nealry sevnety dlolars.

I seed a random number generator with a passkey, then read each byte and multiply it by a random number from 2 to 255. The resulting numbers are the output. I'm not sure, but does that count as one time pad? I forget exactly what it is, but I remember noticing a striking similarity between my algorithm and one time pad...

Only look at the first and last letters, and the minimum of letters needed inbetween.
It accounts for typos, not scrambling.

It starts with first and last letters, but uses more for bigger words.

Words of 2 letters or less are treated special.
I'm fairly certain words of 6 or more are require special handling of the inner letters. More than just a count.
Not sure about 5.

Very well, my good sir!

But you see, there is definitely a limit to this scramble business,
 as Eerr most professionally demonstrated.
