For example, if you paid $100 for a rock, and you were hungry, it would not be "wasteful" to buy a hamburger instead of eating the rock, because you can profit more through buying the hamburger than through eating the rock. You would be "throwing away" the rock, but you would be profiting more overall, because you aren't eating a rock.

How about this for a system?
When somebody posts that a game is dead, I will confirm that it is indeed dead. Then I will post it to be removed. If, within a few days or a week, somebody has asked for it to be archived, I will put it in the archive (which will be a separate section). If nobody has requested it, it will be deleted altogether.
However, anyone can request for a dead game to be put in the archive at any time, much like a live game being put on the list itself.

I think the text suggestion adventure "The war on nukes" should be removed, since it didn't go very far and it's been 2 months since it's last post.
The text suggestion adventure "Wanderer"/"Raleigh Crane: Wandering Blind Telekinetic Female Swordsmage" should be removed as the GMer is banned, so the chance of it continuing is effectively null.
The text suggestion adventure "You are in a dark room." should be removed as the GMer has started a number of other games since then (which are likely also abandoned) and the last post is a while ago, thus this game along with several others is likely abandoned.

The Multiplayer Adventure game "=Bronze Battle Axe=" hasn't been posted in for 5 months and the GMer has likely moved on to other things.

My criterion for death is one month after last post (bumps, etc. count); it's not like it's unduly expensive to keep four or five extra crippled adventures. Some may yet live...
Great Tower is definitely dead though, GM gave up. If I do a purge later, I'll have to remember that.

I have found these games dead or possibly dead. As usual, if you believe any are still alive, say so and they won't be removed. If you believe any are worth archiving, say so and they will be archived (unless they aren't removed at all). Oh, and I'll do the purge in a few days, but if I delete them and someone comes on months later and says "Wait, this is worth archiving" or whatnot, that still counts and it will still be archived.
X of Y games are dropping like flies (there's only one left), so barring anything strange they will probably be merged into Text games again.
Interestingly, many of the multiplayer adventures are still alive - not like the waves of death that happened in most other categories. Maybe multiplayer adventures are not started very often, only when the GM is dedicated enough to follow through, or maybe there are more people dedicated enough to bump it to life all the time, or something?

Yeah, though I think you were talking about your own games and not all the games. There's tooons of long-dead stuff around, especially in illustrated suggestion (that category always seems to rapidly accumulate dead games). Might be time for another purge, Cheddarius.

8 species of tiny organisms break into a house and begin to start civilizations. The objective? To get out of the house with a rocket capable of flight to the the neighbors! Also with a neat little smiley on every post, because I want it to feel just like a kindergarten classroom for some reason.
Probably belongs in whatever RTS/sim catagory you have. I'm an idiot and didn't read the first post beyond "post which category it goes into". I then proceeded to not read the catagories.
You can tell this game is going to involve alot of retcons. :|

Although rather than 'appoint,' it's more in line with 'whoever feels like staying on top of things can make a new thread, then report both to let Toady know to pin the new one and unpin the old one.' I'd suggest whoever feels like taking the role starts off with an impending purge using the same 'post within a week to not be purged' rule, since the list is probably quite out of date now, and separates 'finished games' from 'unfinished but dead' in the archives. And maybe if someone wants to set up another forum game award thing like GlyphGryph tried to, they could run it through this thread so as to avoid it being ignored by lack of notice.

Literally everything else on the current list is either completely dead, or finished. That being said, I propose a special slot be reserved for Man of SCIENCE!! since it's legendary.

WIZARD is in more of a Semi-Active state right now, I wanted to reorganize everything inside Evernote first like I've done with the much much smaller other two games, but 78 pages on 50/page is still A LOT to go through though, and I didn't have very good notes before.

Actual Edit(s): add Picture Fight to the Alive pile, I remeber seeing it in my Updated topics yesterday or the day before.
Adventure Guy is finished, it seems. (as in complete, not dead)
Probably won't revive ROBOT. no ideas for it. Kinda interesting how the text suggestion section is still ~50% X of Y! games,though.
LoLD most definately deserves a spot in Active.
Are we going to drag the old archive with us? would make sense, but might as well ask.

I would like to purpose that we change it to if a game goes for seven days without activity the GM will get a PM asking whats up. If it is not responded to (or if the GM says let it go) in three days it will be taken off the list.
Then if a game is completed or the people want a one that died to be so, it would be added to the archive.
Edit: I also believe that PMs are sufficient to get Toadys attention. I have not known him to be anything other prompt to my PMs.
Edit 2: I also think the none dead games on the list should be moved over. That is relatively easy to do.

Sure, go for it. I think seven days of inactivity might be a little quick (even highly active games take breathers, and people go on vacations), but maybe two weeks? Cheddar's policy was a month of inactivity, but I always felt that a tad lenient.
Alright. Two weeks, with a five day grace period? Maybe a section for games that are on vacation.

If I remember he was somewhat wary of sticking it the first time because of this exact situation.
Also, if it does get sticked, it will need to remain impartial, so contests can not be run out of it like someone suggested.
