Title: Should I write documentation for LCS?
Post by: jasonred79 on March 02, 2010, 12:58:58 pm
The current manual is not that complete... since everyone else is more programming and coding, I was wondering if I should do the documentation part and help out?

That would be fantastic, you're more than welcome to work on the manual.

I'll be more than glad to help too, although I find LCS one of those games that are quite easy to learn even without a manual (yet hard to master), yet obviously not everyone is quite so familiar with Curses interfaces so a little help wouldn't hurt.

What I'd like the manual to have...

Concepts explained (Juice? A Finnish musician/poet?)
Skills listed, with a short explanation for each
Sites listed, with a short explanation for each
Weapon guide
Activities explained
Lore about laws, current evil conservatives and so on

Alternatively, just browse through as many newbie question threads as you can and answer those that you don't find very spoily spoily in the manual.

Looking through the wiki, these are the areas I find lacking info:

Professions: Not a lot of information about where to find a certain profession and what skills they're likely to have. Most are pretty obvious like Artist has Art etc.

Laws: What the in-game effect of laws at various levels are.

How to influence laws: It's hinted at, but most of the "law" system is real world stuff that people don't need to read about. We don't care how many people are in which branch or if it's a "lower" or "Higher" branch.

Common Mistakes: Things like pushing too hard and too fast, committing a lot of crimes from the homeless shelter, getting into lots of fights early in the game.

New Updates: lotta new stuff was added/removed in the latest version.

Note that I myself am European, and I'm quite unfamiliar with the workings of the congress and senate, so don't cut everything about it out.

The way it works is that both congress and senate vote on a bill. Both votes need to be in the majority for the bill to become a law. If the senate ties, then the vice president gives his vote on the issue to break it even.

The president can veto a bill, provided that there are less than 66% of the votes.

Who gets elected to senate and congress are beyond the scope of the game at the moment.
I'm not quite sure who introduces the bills either.

In order to alter the constitution, a majority of 2/3rds is needed.

Also, whenever a huge issue comes up, it may go up to the supreme court, who's role is to determine whether a law is constitutional or not.

Yes, yes, thank you, but I know the system myself already (I've beaten LCS many times over) but I meant that not everyone is so familiar with the system, so it should be summarized in the docs.
