Fire station is something that really confuses me. Why is it there? I love all the allusions in the game, including the Fireman HQ, but on more liberal settings, it doesn't really make sense raiding the fire station. So I'm proposing that the fire station is given some function when free speech is not arch conservative, apart from recruiting fireman Sams. Another option would be to make it into some other free speech limitating facility (Some parents' media association that wants all media to be work-safe...) although that could ruin the Fireman HQ joke.

Perhaps the Fire Station held merit in some previous version; regardless, as you said, the buildng doesn't have much to offer players. I can't see any of the current issues (other than Free Speech in Arch-Conservative alignment) fitting well with the Fire Station... unless you try to stretch the Animal Rights issue there too with the loyal dalmatians that firefighters are stereotyped to have, know, and love. Perhaps a "Public Safety" issue could be created for them and allow the Firemen another chance to appear if that issue's Arch-Conservative, even if Free Speech isn't? I'm not sure of the best way to make the building useful, but I don't think it's entire theme should be changed and allow the joke to go up in smoke... although I could see it being replaced with a major media outlet. Perhaps The Times could have a branch office or corporate HQ in the city, and the Free Speech issue revolves around it.
But, yeah. I totally agree: Unless you're hankering for axe combat or really want some Bunker Gear, there's little purpose in visitng the Fire Station.

Another choice would be to make non-C fire station more like the Vegan co-op or Juice bar, a liberal recruitment paradise. Sadly, the amount of paradise provided by firemen is not very paradisical...
-
when not C+ it just functions like any other neutral place in the game. No reason to take it out.
-
Well in that case the fire station is the only building that is useless for most of the game. It has very limited character pool for recruiting, has no special loot and isn't tied to issues. At least I'd like to see it have some real function when free speech is not arch conservative. Perhaps even non C+ fire station could have some effect on some issue...
C+ insurance laws: Uninsured people aren't rescued from fires.

Why are there 2 hospitals?
-
The University Hospital is supposed to offer better treatment but would have a cost, I read somewhere, but for some reason it was never implemented.
-
I think I got a idea for the firestation. If it's not shut down and the place you are attacking has a fire in it firefighter squads will appear on site and put out any fires they are adjacent to.
Or better yet, if you shut down the firestation and start a fire in a location and leave then there is a chance it will be shut down regardless of if you kill anyone in it or not.
-
I dunno. Unions are something of a big deal within the firefighting feild. Attacking the fire station because not every firefighter joined the union could be something that effects the labor issue.
Or maybe make it so that when you attack and shut down the fire department, you use molotovs to shut down another sites and they will stay shut down longer to reflect that the fire was never put out and the structure burned to the ground.
The firemen are too cool in C+ to remove the firehouse all together.

/nod. The C+ impact is too huge to ignore. But I agree, they should be more important at non-C+ levels.
As is, they're a good source of melee fighters, as firefighters have good physical stats and come with axes (and skill to use them) and armor.
Some things that could be altered:
(as mentioned above...)
While firehouse is active, fires don't shut buildings down unless taken to extreme levels (approaching spray paint levels). Fire fighters will quickly appear on scene when a fire is started and will engage like any ENEMY. This would be BAD.
When the firehouse is shut down, nobody responds to fires and thus starting fires becomes extremely effective in shutting buildings down. Perhaps this would lead to the fire house opening back up quicker?
As for issues, union is obvious. Free Speech should only be impacted at the C+ level, and then it would be a huge influence for attacks on the fire house (to balance their obscenely deadly abilities with flamethrowers at that level). I don't think any other issues would be logical, but I think their impact at non-C+ levels would be a source of recruitment and the ability to open up arson as an effective "site closure" ability.

Yep, right along with what I was thinking. Assaulting the firehouse would be a strategic move to prep for a larger move to attack and shut down multiple sites within the breif window that the fire department is out of commission.
Arson and physical destruction of the site should keep the site closed longer and perhaps effect the issue more strongly then simply shooting a few janitors and retreating.

Why would they attack us?
We didn't start the fire.
