Title: Housewives & Rolling Pins
Post by: praguepride on March 14, 2010, 07:55:58 pm
New NPC type: Housewife. Would have cooking, tailoring, and club skills. Sleepers would effect family stuff (women's rights & child labor). In L & L+ society they'd be called "Working Mothers"

The rolling pin would be a club weapon that would provide bonuses to selling brownies (like guitars do for selling music).

The C+ version would be a PTA Chair, or something like that.

They'd be found in Apartments & public places.

Anyway, just a thought as I watched my wife viciously pound chicken flat with a rolling pin.

Housewives are a CONSERVATIVE idea. They should be replaced by Young Urban Professional women.

If implemented, they would need to be able to be male in less Conservative society, with appropriate naming.

Stay-At-Home Dads in L+ (always male)
Working Parent in M (Male or female)
Housewives in C/C+ (Always female)

It should be noted that all professions (even priests!) in LCS can be held by both genders.

So, you'd need to replace this with "Stay-at-home parent". Ok, that's been covered already.  But I suggest at "C" level the term Housewife is used but both men and women are allowed to hold the job...it reiterates the contempt that Conservative society has for males who raise children in lew of working, and would be an interesting surprise for newer players.

Would be funny to watch these parents previously "so devoted to their children that they forgo work in order to raise them"* totally abandon all children, spouses, and family to join the LCS either because of "Liberal Devotion" or "Good Lovin".

*Those are the words used by the Stay-at-home parent.  Obviously only some of the Stay-at-home parents are truly committed to this idea.  Also obvious is that parents who work are in reality equally devoted to their children.

As far as Housewifes and stay-at-home parents, I'd suggest posting in LordBucket's "CCS work in progress" topic, as he might be interested in this idea for the new Conservative Crime Squad game (and truthfully, it would fit a whole lot better there than here, as in a Liberal Utopia, everyone can joyfully work for the State, with the State providing free, mandatory child care while parents selflessly devote their labors to the greater glory of the State).

I disagree, in C+ society I don't see female upper tier people. I see female janitors and secretaries, but not much else.

Perhaps it's a ratio? And then C+ - L+ spans the ration, with a perfect 50/50 at L+ and a 90/10 at C+

Trust me, there are female CEOs, female judges, etc at all levels of Conservatism, although you may be right on the ratio.  I believe ratios were implemented recently so that these are fairly rare as the women's rights issue changes, but the hypocracy of female CEOs and female Judges working to oppress females was too good to give up entirely.

LCS is dark humor after all...

I think at C+ women's rights, 100% of the CEOs will show up male, and several other professions are pretty lopsided as well. For CEOs, there is a 1-in-10 chance that they are female-to-male transgendered, and have a few free points of disguise skill; society is in such a wreck that the only way a highly ambitious woman was able to reach the top was by actually becoming one of the guys.

Woah. This game goes so deep in the details I don't believe it's a game anymore.

What is the Matrix by the way?

Actually I played DF2 a bit but it lagged on my computer. I've got a new computer now, so perhaps I could give it another shot.
