My dwarf is demanding rock bars! They dont exist, what can i do?

It seems to be a string error, my dwarf accepted Steel bars when asking for rock bars... See if he/she'll accept metal.
-
I had a guy scream for rock bars, so unsure of which he meant, I made both rock blocks and metal bars. Turned out he meant the latter, at least for me.
I'd assume it's a naming bug, probably from the materials rewrite.
-
Toady made it so they wouldn't say "I MUST HAVE ITEMS!", i guess they found an alternative

Demanding items was a different bug, related to nobles ("item in dining room", etc.)
-
There seem to be a number of crafting-related bugs, including the "everything-turns-into-iron" one. Maybe this is related?
-
It could be related to an issue I saw with stockpiles. I created some stockpiles (bar/block, finished good, furniture) intending to store stone goods there. In the options, I noticed that the "Metals" section not only included metals but every material type: stone, wood, glass, gems, etc. So if I had turned off all the "metals", nothing would get stored there. Anyway, since it might be considering stone to be "metal", when the dwarf requests stone blocks, it might also be using the metal-related word "bar."

i have the opposite bug. I have a secretive dwarf.
He sketches pictures of square blocks.
there are several blocks lying around. including a metal one(iron block) and a metal ore one(native aluminum block).
Since he liked copper I even made him a copper block. Nothing.

I have a dwarf demanding rock bars, who seems uninterested in both rock blocks and metal bars.

What about wooden blocks? Those can be blocks too...
I had the "Rock Bars" thing, and it seems to be used in place of Iron Bars. Which is odd, if you ask me, but it seems as though it is simply a naming error. Hopefully it will be sorted out soon.

You have metal blocks or you have metal bars?
It's not possible to make rock bars, only rock blocks.
-
Steel is made using (flux)stone, maybe this is a factor?
My current secretive moody dwarf is standing in the hospital, doing something secret possibly...he is doing it holding a copper axe though. :(
!! Possibly he needs a shop that I haven't built yet...
edit: yep, being a bowyer, he wanted a bowyers'. ::)

Since I can't seem to find the thread listing this (blasted search function is on the fritz) what about when a fey dwarf is demanding body parts?

He/she likely wants bones.

Not sure of that. My fort was swimming in them from waves and waves of crundles, trogs and rathas that would make like lemmings and throw themselves onto the weapons traps I had leading up to the entrance to my fort.
Maybe it was really shells. No fish (again) in any water source I had, so no turtles.
-
body parts means butcher somthing quick, learnt that from a 7 yearold wanting them.
When i had the rock bar problem the guy got some wood immediately, then asked for body parts and rock bars, not know what to do as i had loads of rock, rock blocks, and most of the ores and bars in the game i just got him his body parts and on recieving then went and got a steel bar from my stockpile.
-
I have a metalcrafter in a fey mood at the moment, he's demanding rock bars and body parts. He went and got himself a copper bar, which is presumably the rock bar he's on about, but he too is refusing to get any body parts, despite the fact I have loads of bones, just sat in a refuse stockpile taking up space.
Maybe dwarves still want either bones or shells (but not both), they just call them both by the same name now? I don't have any shells at all (no fish in any of my water sources), so if he only wants shells, that would explain it.
-
Maybe becuase they are in a refuse pile?
-
It's because he wants shells.

This is all in the Wiki...just fyi... http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Strange_mood (http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Strange_mood)

If you're looking for a class of something, check to see how it's stockpiled.
Coke, Charcoal and soap are all "rock bars"
-
Right now, when you look at the "Metal Blocks" section in the stockpiles, you'll also notice every type of gem and stone listed in that dropdown menu. Enabling "Rock Blocks" and nothing else, for example, will not cause the dwarves to bring anything to the stockpile, because for example Limestone Blocks count as Metal Blocks:Limestone in the stockpiles. Presumably bars are having the same issue, based on the comment by lordofhyphens.
I think stockpile logic is just all jacked up because of the transition to 31.x
