Title: A quite literal facepalm, AKA The "Smash your Face into a Wall from Puns" Thread
Post by: GaxkangtheUnbound on April 18, 2010, 04:31:03 pm
While I was adventuring, a giant in the tropical area threw me at palm tree. I collided, and blew up.
Talk about a literal facepalm.

You should have known when to leaf.
I think that's the root of the problem.

I think you should branch out with your next character. Learn throwing and slowly sap that giant's life from a distance. That should sow the seeds of your victory.

Trying to melee a giant would be fruitless anyway. Archery should give you some releaf.

Ah, throwing, that old chestnut. I pine for the days when it was ludicrously effective. But even though alder changes in the new version have changed it a bit, you'll still find that if you lycophyte, you willow your life as much to hastily hurled stones as you will to being spruced up in armour and elm. Especially against demons, whether they be of ash or covered in fir. So, yep, train throwing or you'll rapidly become a copse.

Every grain of this thread is being used up. There ought to be a few saplings left of puns. Get off the grass of yesterday and think up some more. This can't be the cap of the tower, there should still be some left to spawn. Let's keep our helmets plump, all the ideas aren't pruned yet. There are still some kernels left to be assaulted. So stop wasting your time shaking the berries off your branch.

I dunno, I would assume that bad tree puns are even more painful to a creature that both constantly obsesses over trees, and has excellent hearing. Which is why building a maze out of wood around a trade depot, with a couple dwarfs inside constantly yelling out bad plant puns is a great idea (if not exactly possible in Dwarf Fortress currently. [Our maize is very poplar this thyme of the ear.])

And with that, insomnia ends and I would sleep with a smile. If it weren't for the headcold.
You know, it's the fact that I will sit here and make 40+ posts when I am sick and/or can't sleep that drives the post counter so high.  Anyone else have this problem?

Well, anyway, maybe the cheery tunes of Woody Allen can put me to sleep. What do you do when your dreams varnish? I could get a paper-view movie, perhaps. I'd love to harp on the subject of wooden crafts for a while, but a treetise on that would be for the Elves. Oh my oaking head! My sinuses are all gummed up. Oh, and now my movie is coming through all grainy! I'm so glad not to be a fruit, or I couldn't enjoy this actress' performance properly. I'd love to share some seed with her, if you know what I mean. But my confidence would just splinter in person.

Perhaps you're just trying to spruce up your conversations with them. Long ago I may have tried something similar, but I was just making an ash of myself. Everyone goes through a stage like this, its just important not to let it grow on you

Try instead to branch out into your own methods of comedy. Really, is rooting about through corny joke books how you want to improve yourself? Even if it seems impossible its best not to just vegetate and give up. Every person has the capacity to bloom into a funny person if they just stop using tired old conventions.

At first, i was petrified... like wood... like petrified wood...
But then his voice rang out to me. "Resistance if rutile!"
Then i pulled out my jet and shot him in the borax.
Those damn insect aliens always give me the schists.

I have a strong accent and tell my family "Granite" when we go to bed.
And i tell the children to be gneiss... or ill beat the schist out of you...

Suddenly jar jar binks...
"Mica dont want no trouble..."

Quiet yew. To those who punned before me, I raise douglas fir them; to those that come after with flowerid puns so bad that even a dogwood not bark to hear them, spruce up your imaginations, there's more names yet to plum! "Acorny pun can be the pits", seed a great man. But ivyleaf that alpine tree lines (yes, it's a bit of a stretch, 'lines' being like 'pickup lines'), when redwood bring a green to even the most surly individual.

I'll stop with this. No need to listen to madronaing monotone. Larch, my good punsters, Larch towards a glorious new hay! BONSAI!

Je ne sequoia is a first-rate pun, you could charge money for that.  But just because you threw down the master pun doesn't mean you have to get all sappy about the thin veneer of pundom that makes up the majority of the posts here.  We'd all like to pretend that you could just say, "Make some floral puns, my fine-feathered friends!" and all the resulting witticisms were leafy green and witty, but it's simply not what you should expect.  After all, it was Kant, I believe, that said, "Out of the crooked timber of humanity, no straight thing was ever made."

The billon puns out here have all lead me to believe that the bay12 community kicks brass. I zinc that we, as a group, could steel the mona lisa without the coppers even knowing it was gone. I say that, however, with more than a silver of sarcasm.

I was zincing... If we were to host a bay12 tailgate party, what would be the main dish? I was going to suggest cajun-style jumbo bronze. We should all choose a main booze for the event, and my idea is that we should all electrum. We could then go searching for metals, and if we fine pewter laying on the ground, it would be merely a trifle.

I was out hiking today, and, suddenly, out of the mountainside, rose gold. I was adamant that I could start a bismuth with the money, and certainly had a golden opportunity.

... And I'm out. I tried to get through the whole inorganic file, but a few stump me. I might branch out in to the mineral raws, but I will probably leaf and go to sleep.

It would have to be custom Taylored just for this infinite series of puns, but in the end it would only add to the pungent odour in here. Then again, that part has become rather integral to this thread, so I don't think we should differentiate between the types too much. In any case, the amount of calculus puns can only be a small fraction of the sum of tree puns. In fact, it's getting rather hard to Cramer any more math puns into this post, though that might be because math is but a branch on my tree sapling of knowledge.

I wouldn't want to see this thread burn itself out either, we have to keep feeding it puns without smothering it with bad ones.
