Post by: Osmosis Jones on May 06, 2010, 10:36:53 am
Tesla coils perform Super Mario Bros (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p_ySWTmWB8&NR=1), Imperial March (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_YSF7mRSs0&feature=related), and best of all,  2001 A space Odyssey theme, GHOSTBUSTERS, and Megaman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVDmjnCQ1g4&feature=player_embedded)

Honestly, to me, it just sounds like people farting out the music. And now it will to all of you as well.

I don't hear it.

I don't hear it.
Its the one thats on the lower notes, because its not a continuous tone. Sounds like someone blowing a raspberry, at least to me. Most obvious on the 2001 theme.

This is. By far. The most awesome musical instrument ever made. 8)

I'll pay there's a sort of farty noise at the start of the third video I linked, when they test it, but once the get started, it just gets awesome. Especially the ghostbusters theme. That was sooo kewl.

This. Besides, any musical instrument that can kill has to be awesome. Organs used to be top, followed by electrical guitars, but now this.

What, really, you guys only just discovered this?

Eh, if you discovered it earlier, why didn't you post it? I mean, c'mon man, how could you keep mortal kombat and ghostbusters from us? Evil, that's how :(

I see your tesla coil and raise you one theremin jam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW0B1sipLBI&fmt=18).

Also this ingenious thing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PV_w38ldZaE&feature=related).

As cool as that is, it's not shooting twenty foot arcs of lightning at things to make music, so it is inherantly less cool than the Tesla Coils.

Seriously, very little in the world (if anything) is cooler than Tesla Coils.

Hey, a theremin might not shoot tesla coils, but it's the only instrument I know of that you control by waving your hands in front of it.

Now, if you tape one to a Tesla Coil, you might have something.

I see your raise with a Reuben's Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMlCBd6WWAQ&feature=fvw) and reraise you a tonematrix (http://lab.andre-michelle.com/tonematrix)

View this (http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/musical-instruments/cd38/) video, and witness many things, including a airguitar shirt :P

It's music... of SCIENCE!!! Wow, I had no idea you could so that with tesla coils. They are now(somehow) even more awesome.

Well, you could theoretically wire a theremin to a teslacoil. They make much the same sounds, too. I wonder if anyone tried it yet...

After a quick stroll through the search engines, it appears that nobody has tried it yet, and there's only one comment on Youtube suggesting it. Almost-original idea on the Internet, o wow?

"Fingers are nothing, i shoot musical lightning at people by playing air-guitar!"

I cannot think of anything more metal than shooting musical lightning at people by playing air-guitar. That is pretty much the ultimate pinnacle of metal.

No, the ultimate Metal is when you're singing about particles hitting each other (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j50ZssEojtM) fast enough to destroy the planet.

Since both the tesla coil and the theremin are electricity based, I wouldn't think it would be too overly difficult to create an Frankenstein of them to play music on. Well, at least not much more difficult than creating the tesla coil intstruments.
