Title: Akinator
Post by: Trigonous on May 08, 2010, 04:50:39 pm
http://us.akinator.com/# (http://us.akinator.com/#)

This website is great.  It can guess just about any character, real or fictional.  I was messing around with it today, and I learned it can get Urist McDwarf, and ToadyOne.  I then taught it to guess Threetoe.

Repeat thread or not, that was hilarious. It got scooby-doo right, let's see what else it can guess.

It got several characters from Warhammer40k right.

Isn't this the one that could guess Aqizzar?

Yes.
And a few others, I believe.

Presumably they removed that. Hope they didn't.

Yeah, I couldn't get it to deliver Aqizzar anymore. It kept telling me he was Gabe or Maddox :( It did, however, get about 8 in a row before failing on Edward Norton. Seems to be doing a lot better than the last time I played around with it.

It couldn't get Duke from G.I. Joes. It is worthless.

I couldn't get it to give Aqizzar. Must be because it's hard to tell if it want the person or the e-person.

Person or e-person?
Title: Re: Akinator

as in 'Aqizzar the resident of Texas' or 'Aqizzar the green-chinned Baron'

It got Toady after 30 questions, but first it got Jick (Kingdom of Loathing). Eh.

Oh great, now you've made me imagine Aqizzar going to one of his classes, and his professor stopping to look him stright in the eyes and go "Hey, how are you doing today... Aqizzar!".

Weird. I got Toady after 20.

Also, beat it with Warren Buffett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Buffett).

Can't get Archdeacon Claude Frollo :I

Eh, it's pretty easy to "beat" if you pick something obscure/random/uninteresting enough (eh...no offense Warren Buffett). But it's still pretty impressive that a program can accurately guess Samuel L Jackson or Hiro Protagonist after 15 or 20 questions.

Akinator thinks Aqizzar is my drug dealer.

Akinator thinks Aqizzar is my drug dealer.

He's not?

Looks as though he eventually uncovered Captain Ironblood of Nist Akath.

I could only seem to get myriad other dwarven heroes.

I will repeat: It couldn't get Duke from G.I. Joe's. How is it even allowed to exist?

It got Lewis Carroll, Alice, the White Rabbit and even Humpty Dumpty, but it couldn't guess Jabberwock. Dumb Gennie.

I didn't think it would get David Byrne, I guess "does your character wear a suit" gave it away. I even accidentally said he was American.

It got most of the main characters from StarCraft except for Arcturus Mengsk, but after a few more questions he got him, too.

This thing scares me.

I just taught it to guess Morul.

It didn't know Fafhrd (Fritz Lieber) but he was in the suggestions at the end.

EDIT: He missed completely on Weird Al.

And he missed three times on Murderface before succeeding but the first guess was Toki, so it's pretty close (Metalocalypse)

EDIT2: He guesses himself really easily. It looks like a LOT of people try that.

So, I just answered Yes to every question.

Spoiler: I Got: (click to show/hide)

Lets see, if each question produces one of four conclusive results, with 20 questions, and assuming each question divides the pool of possibilities in exactly a quarter...

thats 4^20 possible ids, or 1099511627776 unique sets of answers.

not that I really expect 'akinator' to live up to that, after all, he needs to ask some bogus questions to filter out crap like yes man, and no.

I swear this damn thing searches your last searches.
What better way to answer your question?

I wonder how many people try to stuff it with self-insertions and in-jokes that only he and his one friend are privy to. That sort of thing really bloated Urbandictionary.

The Toady One in thirty questions.

First as 'the homeless guy downstairs'

Then for real.

What do you expect? More people know of a homeless guy (downstairs) than know of Toady.

Oh man he guessed Ray Smuckles on the second try! (Several guesses)

I think I read that they moderate additions.

Google translate http://fr.akinator.com/faq.html (http://fr.akinator.com/faq.html), as the english one doesn't seem to work.

As you can imagine, some of his characters created several copies, others are not real characters and end up being deleted by our moderators.

Better hope that your additions remain popular, or that they have stopped moderating them.

Morul:

Ten questions: 'Dwarf (Dwarf Fortress)'
(I did do this one three times before, and it guesses it earlier every time.)

Ended up with 'Your RPG Character'.

Morul didn't even get on the list.
