Title: There's iron ore in my farms (boohoo)
Post by: Passive Fist on October 06, 2006, 11:49:00 am
New fortress, decided to try putting everything between the chasm and the magma, with the farms just on the eastern edge of the chasm.  Got my irrigation all ready, and started digging out the farms to find them full of iron ore. Usually I'd mine such a vein dry but that would ruin my design, and be annoying to have dwarves running back and forth through the (potentially flooded) farms.

What a drag  ;)

Replace the spots of ore with either support beams (if you have open farms, but they dont block passage) or statues (which block passage but dont stop collapses).

Statues will serve as substitute walls in most respects, but I'm not sure if they block natural floods or not.  If not, try using closed floodgates instead.

Statues don't block natural floods.
