From a consistency perspective, is it really worth doing moles and the like? None of the other small creatures can have tiles, it might look a bit odd for moles to have one.

Well um... yes. They're... I'd say... maybe 6 inches long? But then I guess maybe that's just the type of moles we have in Britain and it's different where you are.

You can make graphics in damn near any image editing program you care to name, Paint, Paintshop Pro, Photoshop, whatever. As to installation, have a look here:
