Title: I have produced the most useless artifact ever
Post by: Crnobog on April 09, 2007, 03:55:00 pm
Gusiltotomon Egomar Ikud, "Copperflower the Natural Flesh of Reigning", a perfect green glass.

On the item is an image of dwarves in green glass. The dwarves are traveling. The dwarves are weeping.

So am I, so am I.
I've got my fair share of artifact mittens or one-stone jewelry, but this one tops it all imho. It didn't even use any material, the dwarf just went straight fir the glass smelter and started construction, didn't even get legendary since it was a possession.

I also have a related question, how do you guys make ingame screenshots of the artifact screens?

The easiest way is to open the artifact screen,  hit "print screen", open your image editor (Paint will work), and hit Ctrl-V.  Then just crop it down.

So I take it there isn't an ingame way to do this? I mean I see people posting artifact and status screens all over the place so I thought there's some key for this that I missed

Sadly, there isn't an ingame way, no.

(By the way, you can use Alt-PrtScr to just capture the active window - saves cropping  ;) )

Ok, thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
In other news, my shiny piece of green glass just got thrown in the refuse pile along with the corpse of it's creator  :D Not directly my fault though, I had a massive food shortage. but still funny

How is that, do you have a mixed refuse/graveyard?

The dwarves are weeping? What's that refer to? Never seen it on any of my artifacts.

Is it in reference to abandoning a fortress?

It's gotta be the laws of cosmic irony saying "Yes, this is a useless artifact."

The dwarves are obviously thinking of how the useless artifact brought ruin to them and their lifestyle.

Weeping is probably in memory of dwarves who were stricken by melancholy (happens sometimes from failed moods, or if a dwarf stays unhappy for too long--often if they're wounded and in pain for months on end).

My most useless artifact was the adamantium longsword i mentioned in the most valuable artifact thread

It took my only star saphire, star ruby, all my adamanium and i was one day away from the creator going insane. artifact made, proud owner carries it to the front.

When a fire man suddenly appeared and shot the dwarf from behind while crossing a bridge.

Chasming both the legandary smith and the weapon.

Edit: Typo

Bas Cost Budde: upon closer inspection it looks like the dwarf who made it was hauling something to the refuse pile and starved to death while standing on it, since all his clothes are there as well. The graveyard is right next to refuse though, so they didn't have to move him far  :D

I did abandon the fortress twice, but I also had some dwarves struck by melancholy, so dunno which one might have influenced this.

Here it is in all its glory
