Title: The Roguelike (ASCII-illustrated adventures!)
Post by: Duelmaster409 on December 24, 2010, 02:44:13 pm
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Your name is... uh, well, you don't know what your name is! In fact, you think you might have amnesia or some bullshit like that. Regardless, you're an ASCII man, now let's take a look around us.

> Examine your surroundings.

Well, I'll be a -- you can't see much! Your vision has been rendered mostly useless, bummer. You wonder if it's related to your amnesia or whatever. You don't know anything prior to just seconds ago, and you have no clue where you are!

You can see pitch black with specks of white to your north; after a small session of feeling around you, you feel a cold, flat barrier against your hands. You can also determine that you're in an enclosed metal room, but there's bound to be a door here somewhere.

You can make out the figure of something tall across the room, but you're not quite sure what it is. The final thing that catches your eye is a panel or something embedded into the wall off to your south.

What should you do?

It appears things are slightly clearing up. Based on your EXTREMELY ACCURATE ASSUMPTION you go ahead and accurately assume that this entity is probably humanoid; it has four limbs, a torso, and a head. However the basic outline is all you're able to make up.

> Figure out what the thing directly to our north is.

You can clearly see what it is now! It's a mostly translucent window or something that appears to be blocking off dark with white spots. If you lean your head up and down you determine there's black with white spots everywhere..! You come to the conclusion that this is rather unsettling.

The entity across the room begins moving towards you.

Ask the entity who it is.
(http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Duelmaster409/Forum Game/3.png)

You call out to the entity, but it only keeps moving closer. As it walks towards you, its details become more and more vivid and clear. This is indeed a person, but you wonder why it's moving like some sort of possessed sheep.

Make death weapon. Enemies die today.

You wonder if that's even possible in your current position... You assess your possessions.

Code: [Select]
YE OLDE INVENTORY:

1 faded light-blue shirt                 [EQUIPPED]
1 faded light-blue pants                 [EQUIPPED]
2 brown shoes                            [EQUIPPED]
2 cotton socks                           [EQUIPPED]
1 metal ID tag     (???)                 [EQUIPPED : SHIRT]

How could you not notice an ID tag on your shirt?! STUPID STUPID STUPID!

The ID tag unfortunately only holds a puzzling graphic design:

(http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Duelmaster409/Forum Game/3b.png)

The entity/person is still wading towards you at an unbearably slow speed. You don't like this at all because this is rather disturbing, so you guess you can use your ID thing as a bludgeoning weapon.

Is that a door I see on the west side of the room? ESCAPE.
EDIT: OH wait, it's a panel or something. Use it. Press it, open it, whatever.

WHY ARE WE USING THE ID TAG WE SHOULD BE USING SOCKS

This is literally the most stupidest thing you thought of! Why are you so stupid?!

(http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Duelmaster409/Forum Game/4.png)

The strange person is now upon you. You can now examine this person with crystal clarity:

This is probably a woman, or a man with who lactates? Her hair is short and extremely rugged as if she's not tended to her appearance in quite a while. She's wearing the same exact outfit as you, and even has the same ID with the symbol. This peculiar woman has chestnut-brown hair, hardened emerald eyes, and tan skin. If you were to guess, you'd say she was in her late thirties or so.

But what you find most interesting about this woman is that she appears to be rather... slender. In fact she looks as if she's wasting away.

The woman grabs your leg.

Is that a door I see on the west side of the room? ESCAPE.

Now that's a good idea! You struggle against the woman's hold on your leg and finally break free, then hastily run towards the door.

This is not a door - this is a panel!

This panel consists of three major components; a display for informational output, some kind of slot mechanism, and four switches that seem to be shaped in arrows. There is a picture of you in the display, and a picture of the woman too. You're both in the same blue outfit, but the woman in this picture appears to be... beefier, I guess? She looks less sickly than she does currently.

The woman is now in the corner where you were sitting down, watching you.

Does the ID fit into the slot? If so, use it.

Look from far away and see if the woman has an id tag.
If she does we most likely will need to get that one before the door will open.

Does the ID fit into the slot? If so, use it.

Yeah, you guess the ID looks like it could fit in there. You struggle to unequip your ID card for a while and eventually tear it out from the fabrics, leaving an unsightly tear on your shirt. Oh well, at least you've taken it off. You tenderly insert the metal object into the slot - who would've known, it's a perfect fit! However, it doesn't appear to be doing anything immediately.

You pull the card out.

Your photo begins flashing rapidly. You're not quite sure what this means.

Look from far away and see if the woman has an id tag.

You give the woman a courtesy glance... yep, she's got one. You're pretty sure you already knew that, but whatever. She returns the glance at you looking rather emotionless.

You get the feeling putting her ID in the machine is a good idea, as it will likely open a door nearby. But you don't see any doors in this room... for some reason this now brings a very large wave of panic.

Grab her ID and place it in the machine.

You approach the woman, whom reaches out to you with her mouth open. Just as you have selected the appropriate words to present her with, a loud stretched-out *BLEEEEEP* emanates from what appears to be the entire room. The sound quickly turns into a low-pitched klaxon moan, which seems to pierce your mind and fill you with waves of incomprehensible fear.

The woman is also having a similar reaction, only she bursts into tears.

The terrifying sound is shortly accompanied by flashing lights. IT'S TIME TO GET YOUR PARTY ON!

... If you weren't flipping the hell out right now. Maybe later.

Okay, okay! Calm down! You're pretty sure you remember buttons or something on the machine on the wall. Maybe you can tone down the noise, and maybe the lights too!

Amidst all the freaking out, you did not notice the mechanism on the wall is gone! What?!
Title: Re: The Roguelike

Wake up.

You beg your pardon?!

Ask the woman what to do.

You call out to the woman while touching the bare wall where the panel-machine thing once was. She does not respond. After you confirm that there is no panel here, you turn your attention towards the woman; over the deafeningly loud klaxon noise, she appears to be peacefully looking into the black and white void.

Name the dotted blackness "space".

WELL GEE, THAT MAKES SENSE! You guess you never thought of that.

Look out the window.

You decide to join the woman and stargaze through the window.

It's so peaceful out there... you wonder why you didn't try this before. It takes your mind away from all the noise and lights of the room. Almost enough to not notice that the color of the lights appears to have changed a slight bit, but you doubt it's really important. Right now, all you want to do is stare at these god damn stars with this weird mute woman. The window seems surprisingly cold. You somehow know that the vacuum of space is not technically cold, so as to why the window is cold is a mystery. In fact, you doubt this is even a window; if it were, thousands and thousands of microscopic asteroids would have probably made a hole in the window or A HUNDRED! You don't know how you know any of this stuff, but you doubt it's relevant.

You see something off to the distance.

No, you're pretty sure you felt the wall thoroughly; there are no traces of the machine anywhere. It's a big mystery, yes!

Learn sign language, communicate with woman.

That is preposterous to ask of yourself! I mean, come on, how will you learn sign language from nothing! Auuurgh! You're so fucking stupid! You wager she's not even deaf OR mute; she probably doesn't want to talk to you! While this is slightly concerning, you are too busy stargazing to ca-- OH GOD!

There is certainly something huge happening out there; a light blue streak of SOMETHING just impacted onto a wall nearby! The entire room shudders and groans as metal is bent and destroyed. A portion of the room has been shifted or destroyed revealing a small diagonal crack that a 2-dimensional ASCII man could certainly fit through but not see through!

You turn to the woman, who is as speechless as you, and then back into the void of space. There is now a lot of activity going on outside!

You are absolutely baffled by the bursts of rich colors and speed of some passerby objects. The woman is obviously amused, emitting soft "oooh"s and "aaah"s. However, you quickly conclude that this show isn't one worth sticking around for.

SEARCH FOR ESCAPE POD.

You begin to wonder about some magic fairy-tale thing called an "escape pod". What's an escape pod?

Escape through crack. Tell the woman that it isn't safe here and bring her along...

Good idea! You grab the woman by the arm, and she doesn't seem to put up much resistance. You both squeeze into the metal opening just barely. However, the woman has scraped her arm and is bleeding mildly!

Explain the various symbols.

Sure... and hey, you think your vision's finally cleared up!

1: These appear to be solid-metal mechanisms or something. Some machinery and gears are visible; they suggest this contraption moves or something. They're probably exotic doors of some kind.

2: These are panels like the one you saw in the room, except these have no visual output. There are a couple of buttons on them that differ in position on each panel. However, in the middle of each panel there is a depression - or a slot. [Visualization] (http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Duelmaster409/Forum%20Game/11b.png)

3: This is just metallic rubble and scrap metal laying on the ground; probably used to belong to the now-destroyed wall?

Are some of those doors? Go through doors. Nearest door on the other side of the hallway.

You have absolutely no idea how these doors open! Hell, these might not even be doors. You push the wall, kick it, and look for some kind of button fruitlessly.

Flee to the eastern end of the passageway!

You figure the eastern end of the passageway is safer than your current position. You motion with your hand for the woman to pursue you.

You reach the end of the hallway, but are hindered by another one of these machines. However, this one strikes you as different than the other doors...

You propel yourself against the floor using pure legpower and reach the window-ceiling of the room:

You are mostly above some kind of facility exposed to space. There is a silent, flickering blue beam emitting from two tube things down there. You see some lattices and catwalks that look questionably unstable. The room you were previously in appears to be short, while the large hallway you were in previously seems to be rather tall from up here.

Oh dear, you seem to be slowly drifting away from the large structure!

Hey! The door's not opening! Well, you figure since you're slowly drifting away from the main structure you can't... get there currently. Or something. You don't have a very good spatial sense. You try to get the door to the east to open, but it won't budge! Gargh! You're trapped!

The buttons seem to have become stiff and locked in place. Boy, you sure destroyed it!

YOU FOOL NOW YOU'RE GOING TO BE EATEN BY CTHULU GO DOWN FIGHTING!

You caress your rather sharp metal ID card; in the unfortunate scenario where a "Cthulu" tries to beat you or whatever you will be prepared to deliver a most warranted counterattack! You find your thoughts drifting off to metaphors of life, and how easy it is to be spontaneously extinguished at any given time. Thinking about death concerns you.

Look for controls. If any are found that appear relevant, use them.

The only controls in the room are in the BROKEN machine, which is indeed broken and cannot be used at the moment. Damn!

Break down and cry.

Never! You are a real man, and you will do whatever it takes to escape and survive this unfortunate chain of events. Your spirit cannot be broken even in this most difficult of times! You will fight on, and rescue the lass and get out of this enclosed structure if it's the last thing you do!

You kick the door to your south in manly frustration, and accidentally propel yourself violently and slam into the window which surprisingly doesn't hurt much. You settle down and decide to think your way through all of this...

You are now the woman.

Your name is Mira Hakuil, but that's all you know. You've been confined to this facility for quite some time; around a month or two. You have not had a chance to rehydrate or consume food, so naturally it's frightening that you're still alive. You woke up a couple of hours earlier from slumber, and noticed there was a man standing in the room. You tried to communicate with him but... you feel something is forcefully preventing you from talking verbally with him. The man has spoken to you before, but to your dismay he speaks in some foreign language.

You decided to stay while the man left for the northern room while you chose an eastern door to explore. It seems they both lead to the same room;

There are three racks of very bulky, light-blue clothing. Each set of clothing has a very large head accessory that is mostly made of a transparent material.

You pick up and equip the "Space suit". It's surprisingly easy to put on, despite it being a bit heavy. You put on the helmet, finally, and decide that this will probably provide a lot of protection should the need arise.

You examine yourself closely... there appear to be two buttons on your arm. The first one seems to release air onto your face in the helmet, and the second one creates a loud hissing sound that comes from somewhere behind you no matter where you turn. Strange.

Sorry guys, a bit of IRL crap went on and I haven't been able to update the adventure in like a day! Rest assured, however, I will continue to update IF IT KILLS ME!!

Well, this would certainly be an unnecessary hassle considering this seems a lot harder to get out of than in. Besides, it's probably just air or something like what happens inside the mask.

You jump and press the second button; absolutely nothing happens. That was highly unnecessary.

You decide to make your way to the last room you or The Man haven't checked...

You find yourself in a small room with a window on the wall and the ceiling. You can see the absolutely spectacular display of lights from the ceiling's window. How gorgeous! There is a single, lone door off to your right. Finally, there is a panel to the left of you. For now, you don't think that the panel is very important; you're just going to make your way through the other door.

My goodness! Look at those pretty... gorgeous white pearls floating in nothingness. You wonder if you could go out there and grab them and put them in your pockets! You stop daydreaming, and try to open the door. It won't budge!

See if there is anything besides the pretty white dots outside the window.
