Title: Web Social Problems
Post by: sirquote on January 03, 2011, 01:04:26 am
I don't know if its a good idea posting this, ill more than likely get ridiculed for it but here it goes.

I'm a gamer, always have been.. I have good group of irl friends that i've grown up with but they do not deal in gaming or computer socialization at all.

After so many years of drifting around the net without anyone to relate to or converse with, its driving me up the wall. and nowadays most community gaming groups are comprised of 11 year olds screaming profanity's at each other.   All I want is to have a semi mature and friendly group I can belong to to engage with in activities and have a good time doing what I like most, .. Gaming.

Please give me any advice you can
Thanks

Try our Steam group.
You'll probably find what you're looking for there.

Yeah, the forums themselves aren't always the most mature and level-headed, especially when gaming is the topic of discussion (Don't bring up Oblivion)

Yeah, the forums themselves aren't always the most mature and level-headed, especially when gaming politics is the topic of discussion (Don't bring up Oblivion communism)

Fix'd.

Depending on the games you play, I could recommend www.tacticalgamer.com which pretty much fits the bill, although they don't play much besides military shooters.

Now that you are home, try inviting some of your friends over.
I am sure some of us would make a good expression.

I play some cs:s, L4D2 and battlefield 2142 mainly..  problem that is added to this is that Im in the oceanic region.  and any state side servers unfortunatly come up as 260+ ping and most servers just kick me.  lol

But thank you for the suggestions, I like the forums here mainly because DF is its main attraction and simple minded people tend to stay away from DF and its community ;)

Dwarf Fortress. Bane of trolls, home of Nerds.

Or... Something equally fitting.

Sometimes I wish we had more simple-minded people, honestly.

You disgust me.
I rather banish myself to the furthest and deepest abyss full of lovecraftian horrors than get more simple-minded people in!
Blasphemer!

Of course I don't really mind lovecraftian horrors, so perhaps the comparison is out of order.

This is so evil I am inclined not to back you up in the next politics thread...

The fact of the matter is that any group of friends online will likely form quickly, then disband quickly.  Be nimble.

This is not the "Let's-all-gang-up-on-Nikov" thread. Just a reminder.

Eve Online. Honestly the Community is one part astrophysicists, one part fortune 500 business owners, with a sprinkling of trolls/flamers that come from WoW and then promptly leave when they realize that Eve is actually a game and not a.... whatever the hell WoW is... one of those farmtown type things... some sort of money making scam? Anyways, Eve has a awesome community. The best of the decade according to MMORPG.com.
