Juice, many many kinds.I was wondering, how would V8 juice do? Or would that be a really bad idea?
It probably won't do much to help you get better, but I find that Sprite has weird properties when it comes to sick people. It certainly seems to make throwing up less likely whenever that's a posibility, and it does indeed remain tasty even while you are sick. Then again, you said soda reacted with the mucus in your throat, so I can give no promises on this.I always thought ginger ale did that...

Don't drink that. It's full of tomatoes and very acidic, which many people have trouble with even when they're feeling well.
When I'm sick, I usually drink tea full of chopped up raw garlic, lemon, and honey. The garlic might be too much for your stomach if you're feeling so ill, though =/
Yeah, it's really tasty and heals you up fast :D
Yeah, it's really tasty and heals you up fast :D
Raw of course! :3Yeah, it's really tasty and heals you up fast :D
When you say tasty how are you eating it?
Sorry I'm English so dont know what you yanks have :D we just have normal tea here never heard of green tea O.o.
I don't know how anyone could stomach ginger in anything but tea.
On that note, I drink very finely-ground extra bold coffee black and complain about how sweet it tastes.
Maybe I'm weird but when I have a sore throat I like caustic or abrasive things. Soda crackers, Cola, all that stuff.
Hydrogen... peroxide.
Seriously?
Hydrogen... peroxide.
Seriously?
A mixture of that and water (about equal proportion, assuming you start with drugstore 3% hydrogen peroxide) can work well as a debriding agent. Just, you know, don't swallow the stuff.
It can also fuck up your teeth, for entirely obvious reasons. Especially if you have preexisting cavities.
While sick myself, I've been drinking a lot of V8 vegetable juice. I don't know if it "helps" or anything, but among the few things that I can still tastes and tastes good.
It can also fuck up your teeth, for entirely obvious reasons. Especially if you have preexisting cavities.
How does H2O2 mess up your teeth, though? I'm not finding that obvious.
...Hydrogen peroxide dissolves almost everything. Tooth enamel being among them, but the softer tissues underneath the enamel are really vulnerable. All I know is, I tried using very small amounts of drugstore H2O2 as a mouthwash for a little while, and my dentist looked at me like I was crazy.
I just found this:Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Seriously, I've never heard of H2O2 as being a very useful solvent. I swear you're thinking of some other substance.
I agree with G-Flex. Low concentrations of oxygenated water shouldn't be bad for your teeth.
It ought to neutralize acidicic pHs (thus decreasing calcium solubility) in the mouth, and kill the bacteria causing them.
Hydrogen Peroxide is a great solvent because it can act as both a powerful oxidizing and weak reduction agent. It naturally dissociates, but if it can take another substance with it, it'll gladly do that. It doesn't dissolve substances in the same way water does, it tears apart the substance, then the torn apart substance is dissolved. It works like Nitric acid, except it can also act as a reducing agent.
Oxygenated water is a common term for hydrogen peroxide, particularily when dillutedI agree with G-Flex. Low concentrations of oxygenated water shouldn't be bad for your teeth.
Hydrogen Peroxide is not "oxygenated water". Oxygenated water is water with O2 dissolved in it. H2O2 is not water at all.
I'm pretty sure it's acts as a baseQuoteIt ought to neutralize acidicic pHs (thus decreasing calcium solubility) in the mouth, and kill the bacteria causing them.QuoteYou sure about this? I'm pretty sure H2O2 is neutral in itself. However, some bleaching solutions ingeneral are acidic.

Yes, I'm sure. Hydrogen peroxide is quite basic
I swear, when did chemicals become a substitute for doing something the normal way regularly?
"I hate brushing my teeth, but a 2% concentration of sulfuric acid does the trick!"
And yeah, sorry for driving this thread insane off-topic, but it's not every day I can actually use my on-going chemistry education to do anything outside of the education itself. :>

You do realize that chemicals are abundant in toothpaste, right? :D
Or "throw some powdered aluminum on that rusty pole and begin shooting it with tracer bullets!" ::)I swear, when did chemicals become a substitute for doing something the normal way regularly?

Of course. But not the "kind my chemistry teacher keeps in a clear glass jar" kind of chemicals. I see it along the same lines as "Why buy matches, just use flint over some magnesium, same diff!"
