Title: TF2 Steam Download ain't workin'.
Post by: Blargityblarg on January 10, 2011, 09:22:15 pm
So I'm downloading TF2 on Steam. Speed is for some reason throttling itself to around 20KB/s, so I leave it on overnight. About 60% done when I come back in the morning. I use the computer a bit; nothing complicated; browsed the Internet and played Alien Swarm, mostly. The TF2 download begins to suspend itself; I fix it by hitting 'pause download' and 'resume download'. It does it again a few times. Steam stops responding. I kill it (close the program, cancel Windows is looking for a solution). I restart Steam. Now there is no TF2 entry in the Downloads page, and in the Library page, it says 'download starting', without ever starting it. I'd really rather not delete what local files I've gotten so far, but unless one of y'all have a solution, that's my next step.

EDIT: Also, even though there's no entries for games to be downloading, the Downloads page is still reporting a few KB/s downloading, though I can't tell what to.

Another edit. I downloaded the latest version of Steam, it 'prepares team fortress for installation' for ages, then claims the servers are too busy to handle my request. Guessing that everybody's downloading the update and that gets priority, which explains the problem, but leaving this open in case anyone has information to the contrary.

I've noticed that any game download will get paused while you're playing something else on Steam. No real point in restarting the DL if you're just going to go back to that game.

If you load up a game, alt + tab out, resume the download and then alt + tab back in, then it's continue downloading while you play.

Yeah, it's working now. Musta just been busy servers.
