Pretty self explanatory. What the heck should I download?
I'm a fan of songs that are about war and fantastical ideals, but I can't stand songs where the lyrics are indecipherable.
Favorite songs: Amaranth, Carry on Wayward Son, anything by the Cruxshadows.
I like powerful instrumentals too (Ride of the Valkyries, O fourtuna, Requiem for a dream, ect.)
What suggestions are there?
-
If you like requiem for a dream, you'll love the corner stone cues. Buy all four of their albums.
I can also reccomend an australian band called the cat empire.
-
If you like big fantastical ideas, I'll recommend my favourite band to you: Muse.
Try listening to "Knights of Cydonia", "Apocalypse please" and "Butterflies and hurricanes". All of these are very grand in scope.
-
Rush is usually fairly powerful.
Try the tragically Hip, too. Classic Rock is always good.
-
oh don't forget The Cars.
-
If you like Kansas, then a good list would include: REO Speedwagon, Grand Funk Railroad, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Foghat, and maybe Steely Dan. Stuff like Nightwish leaves me in the dust, by stuff like Muse, Coheed and Cambria, and 30 Seconds to Mars is supposed to be all the rage now. They sound kinda similar to me.
Don't forget, as a tanker, you're obligated to pack plenty of oldschool Metal, like Motörhead, Riggs, mid-era Ozzy, and earlier Iron Maiden.

TROGDOR!
And 'Money For Nothing' by Dire Straits, so you can give Canadian Bureaucracy the finger with me.
(They banned it because one woman in Labrador complained about it using the word 'faggot'. In a character line. God I hate censorship.)
-
Rhapsody of Fire (it used to just be Rhapsody) has some amazing music. In particular, I recommend these albums/songs.
Symphony of Enchanted Lands (Favorite song: Emerald Sword (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye6YHQ8AZzU))
Dawn of Victory (The Village of Dwarves (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBf-XiEhTBw) is really the only good song I've heard.)
Power of the Dragonflame - ('Steelgods of the Last Apocalypse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ygdpo_JevY)' and 'Knightrider of Doom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHKRbFZ1HA4)' are both awesome.)
Symphony of Enchanted Lands II - ('The Magic of the Wizard's Dream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z93SdirnzTw&feature=related)' all the way. Make sure to get the version with Christopher Lee in it.)
Triumph or Agony - (The only one I've heard is Silent Dream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKXU9cFODJw), but it's pretty rad.)
The Frozen Tears of Angels - (This entire album is gold. Here are my favorites, but all of it is pretty good.)
- - - - - - - - - -On the Way to Ainor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C25dZqeVrb4) - It starts kind of slow, but it builds up throughout and it gets pretty intense.
- - - - - - - - - -Raging Starfire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFmX2JrISsA) - The craziest guitar solo I've ever heard.
One tip though - If you decide to buy an entire album, try listening to it from start to finish. Their albums usually tell a story from start to finish.
-
Danko Jones and some 3 Days Grace.
-
Zrk, it's typographed as Three Days Grace. ON the subject of three bands, 3 Doors Down has some pretty intense songs with lyrics that make sense, and One from Metallica(Is that how you spell it?) really carries meaning, especially when you know the book/movie it was based off of.
-
Might not be what you're looking for, but pretty much all of my other stuff isn't what most people'd consider decipherable (because it's Japanese, growly metal stuff, or both).
Weezer, (http://www.box.net/shared/jzvn3maegz) Pixies, (http://www.box.net/shared/im975ukyq0) and Talking Heads. (http://www.box.net/shared/t7gj3bpcjl)
I'm also going to second what Aqizzar said.
-
Weezer and Pixies are really good, get some of them.
-
Yeah, I don't mind Weezer, they're ok.
-
Zoolook by Jean Michel Jarre.
-
I think the main question is: Why are you buying off iTunes?
-
see if you can get any thing from sabaton (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdngW3qMMco)
-
Enigma has some pretty good music, if you're into the heavy trance/instrumental thing.
-
The Rolling Stones
Not My Darkest Days, god they suck!
Elton John. srsly!

I've noticed that the majority of their work is about World War 2 and the various surrounding conflicts. I must commend them on the opening line of the song 'Primo Victoria'. It's one of the most hilarious things I've ever heard, just because of how serious the singer seemed.
"Through the gates of hell! We will make our way to heaven... through the Nazi lines!"
Because every single Nazi was a horrible person whose death grants a free ticket to a positive afterlife. Not what this thread is about, though.
Europe is a pretty good band for good ideals and instrumental parts. In particular, The Final Countdown, Cherokee, and Rock the Night are good songs.
-
Sabatons great. Try 'The Art of War', great album. 'Primo Victoria' and 'Coat of Arms' are good too, but 'Attero Dominatus', 'Fist for Fight' and 'Metal Machine' aren't as great.
Price of a Mile, Ghost Division and Panzerkampf are the best.
Also try Breaking Benjamin if you've got nothing else to listen to.
-
Try some Jethro Tull.

It's worth listening to for the intro alone.
Anyhow if you're fond of the recent Nightwish album, I can recommend Delain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiKh7grCe5I&feature=fvst) to you.
On the field of powerfull melodic metal, Edguy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK_MO5SsSSM) is pretty good and Masterplan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P67f0Wc0D7o) as well. Blind Guardian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c98gIxCe1zo) is a must. You may like Tarrot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWMPVjCgQPI) if you like Marco Hietalla from Nightwish (He sang Master Passion Greed and parts of The Islander if you don't know his voice). Sonata Arctica (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1zkXdqcajk) is classic too. You may like Amorphis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD_DeNmFdAw) as well, though stay away from most of their earlier work if you don't like grunting.
-
Blind Guardian is... weird. Can you explain it to me?
-
Let me fire up Spotify...
Lets see, if you're into the metal side of the spectrum, we have Green Day, Skillet, Paramore, Good Charlotte, Black tide, 30 Seconds to Mars (As Aqizzar said), Hollywood Undead and Linkin Park to name my favourites. If you are more into indy rock then go for All Caps, Alex Day, Chameleon Circuit and the like.

Holy cow that van is awesome
you guys never seen Fanboys?
-
Rammstein is... I'm not going to say bad, but it is a bit messed up. They sing about some really messed up shit.
-
compared to say, Dethklok or System of a Down?
-
I don't know about dethlok, but its way more messed up than System of a Down.
-
Rammstein, to my knowledge, has probably done more of that recently in a desperate attempt to stay relevant.
The fact that people would put Dethklok (a joke band from a comedy show) and System of a Down in the same context says something about System of a Down, I think.
-
I don't listen to Rammstein personally but my friend does, and he explained to me what the German lyrics mean on the way home from school. I got out of the car and walked home.
