Title: How do I get the power from this water reactor?
Post by: Excedion on March 06, 2011, 08:30:01 pm
Just wondering how do i get power from this without channelling from above.

You HAVE to get the power from above with the v-reactor, that design precludes any other means, sorry.

The wiki said that i could get it from the sides though. I placed a gear over the pump intake and it appears to still work?

Yes, you can pull power from the sides; Like so:

Just build some the machinery (axle or gears) off to the sides and it'll fine.  Beware though, you'll get some splashing this way and may slowly lose water to evaporation.  I haven't run it long enough yet, but I suspect that it will happen.

I always do it from the top.  That looks like you're on the surface, so just build a ramp against one of those walls and then build some floors up there until you can reach the spot to put the gearbox (you can later run axels over those gearboxes, too).  It's a bit more of a pain, because you can't build stuff up in the air without having machines or floors beneath it, but it's not really that hard to manage.

I always build my water reactors underground, though, and seal them off so that building destroyers can't get to them.  If I need to shut off the power, I just make an emergency shutoff lever in the hall of levers.

I thought that doing it from the side could cause leaks, but all of my designs plan to draw power from the top, so I've never worried about it that much.

I've done it from the intake in the past. Haven't built one recently though.
