Title: Lets play Spore: SPACE STAGE :Blah blah blah Kaboom

So I was thinking of making a lets play so I chose spore and so yes this will be my first lp. But first There's two things that I'm gonna need from YOU

I have galactic adventures and creepy and cute but sadly I'm a victim of one of the many glitches that prevents people from getting the robot parts

Sorry, can't help with the first one and used up my CD ages ago due to bad luck with 2 computer breakdowns and the fact someone deleted the game off the other computer. Still, posting to watch.

Pretty sure Spore itself will create both screenshots AND videos within its own engine. The videos will automatically upload to youTube.

Let me double-check...

You may be right. I found where I had done this before, and only had a few of the "save file" .gifs and what seems to be an alt + Prt Screen image.

Herbivore, because we are dwarves, and losing is Fun. Unfortunately, it's impossible to lose in Spore until you hit Space stage with MOTHERFUCKING SPACE PIRATES THAT ONLY YOU CAN DESTROY GRRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

On another note, did they ever patch this to be good, or was it always just really meh?

So sometimes you can see the cells from the next few size levels up in background. And they can be really creepy. I mean seriously in the picture above you can see 2 of them and look like a eldricth abomination.

You get genes from random skeletons. It isn't that tough to end the creature phase with every single part available.

Suggestion: Before you go to tribal phase, alter your creature to remove every single superfluous part possible. It makes Tribal, City, and Space designs easier (and cooler).

I have been assigned to watch over subject species 45902 due to their recent evolution into a larger land based species. I have chosen to focus my reports upon a single specimen that has shown higher intelligence than the rest and appears to be something similar to a leader.

Curiously Species 45902 has shown the ability to absorb dna from corpses and other creatures. I must make a note to speak to ***** about this development.

Upon leaving the nest the subject immediately headed for the nearest group of other creatures.

The subject then displayed it's singing abilities, apparently in order to ally with the creatures. This is in contrary to the species previously observed behavior before it moved onto land in which reports state that it was a vicious predator.

Buddy buddy buddy! (I didn't even notice you do that... my automatic assumption is LPers don't want to buddy people)

Unfortunately I am probably too late for any of my creatures to be seen in the creature phase unless it doesn't put them all up at once. I make descriptions for any creature that my brother didn't make under my account that are quite expansive.

I should get on Spore and make some more Dwarven creatures right now *gleeful prance*

Sorry I really shouldn't be this excited, it is just that having other people look at your creations was 50% of Spore.

And don't worry from what I've seen the game adds in creatures gradually as nests are discovered. Partially so that the wildlife will scale alongside the player creature.

Some I kept for Nostalgia and others I kept because for some unfathomable reason people actually like them more then I did.

Trust me, I've done a LOT of filtering... It was one of the reasons I didn't play much (because the vast majority of creatures you actually make in the creature phase are rejects and that I like to take my time playing this game... except during civ which I burst through)

45902 has grown considerably since my last report on them. Their entire stature has changed so that they now stand much taller. Their vestigial cilia have split in two and and been modified into simple wings. They also have grown bright crests on their heads to aid in communication.

The recent increase in intelligence has lead to 45902 exhibiting pack behavior.

The pack members have been aiding each other when interacting with other species.

Upon traveling a certain distance the subjects encountered what appeared to be nestfulls of creatures in a stage of metamorphosis. The subject was peturbed by this for unknown reasons.

Also the subjects are beginning to encounter much more hostile creatures and have begun to behave somewhat more cautiously, observing from a distance before deciding whether to approach or not.

At this time the other species have begun showing a more cooperative initiative working together while interacting with the subject. This has caused some difficulty for the subject in attempting to impress them.

Since last observed the subject has gone through a great many changes. It's head and arms have gained a form of touch sensory apparatuses. 45902's fingers have fused into a simpler structure and it's feet have grown sharp claws. Also there is a barb on their wrists. These changes appear to be in response to the more complex and more hostile environment.

Well nothing of mine yet, but things can still go well.

Yeah the Creature phase is actually the most glitchy phase oddly enough (though Tribal can break uttarly if you have wings sometimes), you risk crashing whenever you move outside the "Play area" but it is often worth it since it is the best way to collect parts and get extra DNA before the "End".

The subject spent quite some time here trying to interact with the Staryu. There were difficulties as they had other problems to deal with.

The subject was interrupted by a brief meteor shower at one point and strangely did not attempt to run and hide like the rest of the native creatures.

Subject has gone through some major changes in head structure since my last report on it. Their hands have developed to have tough clawed lumps of bone on them and the sensory apparatuses on their heads have developed.

However their behavior has been mostly the same.

Eventually it paid off as they received another boost in intelligence

Also the herd has migrated again
And once again they "forgot" a group and left them behind to trail after them.
It is at times like these that I have doubt in *******'s intelligence estimates.

However when they went past the lake, they took a detour and collected a Quark for unknown reasons.

Also a note. While exploring the subject encountered a probe sent by *** to collect an Adorak specimen. I do not know whether to yell at him over choosing such an conspicuous design, or to commend him for his cleverness in picking one that could be mistaken by the natives for a flying creature.

Also on inspection the Quarks are made via reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy careful proportioning of their 2 spinal pieces and making the mouth into an impossibly small piece turned upside down placed on their underside

But anyway as I was saying the Phitch informed the Cutebolds of the location of the other neighboring tribes. Unfortunately relationships with them would prove to be quite difficult. Almost immediately after being introduced the Omegas sent a raiding party to capture the cutebold village.

However the Cutebolds fought valiantly and the Omegas were repelled. Legend says that even all the animals of the forest came to their defense. Recent archeological expeditions have found that there may be a grain of truth in this as there have been many traces of a herb that temporarily tames animals found in the village and in what is believed to be Mickbians hut.

And from there after things only got worse. During the confusion a Zombie came and stole food right out of the Cutebold's stockpile. In retaliation the Cutebolds killed a Zombie villager who came near the village.

But once again the Cutebolds won out. Soon afterwards the Cutebolds released a declaration of war against all three tribes who dared to raise their arms against them.

Well looks like I won't be featured for a while... Alls well I guess compared that I need to do some culling.

Also The game is odd in that Peaceful is actually the easier way to do the Tribal phase (and shorter). It is probably one of the few games where the diplomatic method is in fact the best way to go.

Economics is also the easiest (and fastest) way to do the Civilisation phase with I believe Religious being second best IF you pay attention (as religious vehicles are rather handicapped)

Also no you cannot have Slave Races. Whenever you take a city, however you manage to do so, you actually replace their people with your own. So you can't even have a multi-racial civilisation.

The closest to slaves are "pets" in tribal phase. Heck if you make nice to a rogue they follow to Tribal (for a decent starting boost)

While it isn't my favorite of the three, the Dragger walker is pretty much the best one there. (very slow vehicles are almost unbearable, though it isn't so bad for economic)

Economic is sort of in a weird spot where Speed and Strength are actually sort of the same thing. Their biggest dump stat is durability.

Well everyone has the same weapons and they override whatever attack you had (though they are far supperior to even level 4 attacks). There are few stats and abilities that matter in the tribe phase (Stealth, Speed, and Flight)

Also oddly enough while Speed does matter (and BOY should you make sure your creature can move for Adventures) it is altered FAR more by the shape of your creature then their raw speed stats. I've had legless creatures outrun level 5s.

Flight is a risk because there is a common glitch that randomly catapults fliers into SPACE!

The main strategy for Economic play is you want to bribe attackers into leaving you alone (so they like you) and to build up a HUGE money base. Since Economic generates insane amounts of cash it is rather easy for them to do so.

Once Economic gets going they are quite unstoppable.

So... Your not really going to be "taking back with almighty abandon" and more like "Hey, want money? Let us run your city for you!"

It kinda hurts economic to mix and match.

If you are economic you sort of want to go all out economic.

It would basically mean you would switch to purely military.

Well ok that isn't exactly true, economic does mix well.. but basically what you do is you select one city as your trading partner and then flood it with economic vehicles and use that as a buffer for an unstoppable legion of military vehicles.

Been tempted for a while due to how it looked and seemed to play, always been bothered by folks saying how shit it was at End Game and such, but it seems more and more fun as I read this. Should I get Spore though???

Also please note that during the space stage I will be encouraging RPing as crew members. They'll be important later on. You can be any sentient race we encounter including the Phitch and the Avions. Just make sure that if you are a race that goes to war with us that you have a good reason for being there.

Crashes and game ending bugs are all part of the Spore package. Currently my Spore won't even remain connected.

Well even before that there was the Hologram upgrade you could buy (It is pretty much top tier environmental equipment) though it was somewhat useless as planets (heck even the starting planet) arn't as interesting as when you were in the creature phase.

It is actually one of the largest peaves I have with the game is that further you go the more details are lost. Creatures go extinct on mass until there are only 9... The only tribes are your tribes.

Though once again as I said... Frankly as far as Spore was from its mark... I'd really would like a sequel (I don't think we are gonna get one though, it is a tough game to follow up)

SUMMARY OF LOST FILES

The captain goes and makes first contact with an alien race who appear to be fish that somehow float in midair. They send him on a journey to go join the ranks of the space captains organization and on the way he makes a detour to meet a zealot race. The captain beams down and has adventures explained to him. Sorry. I was gonna try and start the lp back up when summer arrives cause I've been lacking in the proper freetime since it died Also because it keeps crashing and I can never remember to save occasionally. If I'm really lucky I might be able to move the restart forward to winter break.

anyways, looks like you ran into a spot of bad luck there, mate.

IIRC, EA forced them to ruin it for greater profits. Most of the Maxis team didn't want to fuck it up like that.

They had all of those FEATURES AND THINGS! Like the aquatic thing, different sense modes etc. Then they scrapped all of the plans because it might be confusing. EA, wy must you these things to us?

Anyway, cell will always be the best stage because there was a level of stratergy involved on placing parts etc. The other stages are all basically:
"Use ability, backpedal/move to next target, use ability", which is a load of brass if you ask me. That is not what the game promised.
Normally this would be a derail, but it's kind of on topic here. I think?

To make sure it is, see how far you can go just in cell. It's the most fun mode (Playing civ full economy possibly excluded) and is also a decent challenge.

It's currently set to our defensive weapons. As you can see, at the start of the space age our ships are equipped with a laser and some missiles. The missile is good against turrets and ships, while the laser is better at shooting individual creatures and other small targets. Both of these weapons drain energy, which when emptied will prevent our energy using devices from working, and cause our ship to take gradual damage to it's health. You move using a mouse,use left click to use tools, and right click to move there. You press the + and - keys to go up or down the Z axis.

(http://i.imgur.com/YhVpF.png): We have 5 types of buildings. The city hall is the center of your city, and is built automatically and cannot be removed. Factories increase your spice production, spice being the main commodity of the Spore universe. Possibly as a reference to Dune. However, factories also increase unhappyness in the city. Which in the city age would cause zealot nations to have an easier time conquering you. Not sure what it does in the space age. To counter this, you have to build entertainment buildings to increase happyness. If you build a factory and a entertainment next to eachother, the unhappyness of the factory will double. Houses increase the effect of adjacent buildings. However they are not able to increase the unhappyness of factories.

Your own civ will offer you all the available upgrades and items unlocked, but at standard pricing. May I hijack this thread for a moment? This LP has given me the urge to dig up and enjoy my own copy of Spore, as it is a very neat game despite its shortcomings. However, I am in requirement of a way to install it without having that blasted SecuROM tearing through my new computer. My rather weak google-fu has not turned up any relevant information, so I hereby turn to the wise minds of Bay12 to hopefully assist me in my predicament.

(Interesting piece of trivia: Did you know that neither the game box nor the manual ever so much as hints at you having to install SecuROM? There's no "This game uses the SecuROM digital rights manager" or "To install this game, you also need to install SecuROM" or anything similar. Nothing. The word SecuROM itself is not printed anywhere throughout either the manual or the physical box. I was never even aware of its existance until shortly after I installed the game for the first time several years ago.)

(http://i.imgur.com/YhVpF.png): And here the game crashed. While I get it back up and running, I suppose I’ll explain Trade Routes in Spore a bit here. Once you form a trade route, it’ll appear in the form of two dotted lines between your planets with your ships traveling on them. A Gauge will appear at the top of the screen if you travel to the planet you formed a route with. When the gauge fills up, the afflicted planet will have an economic crisis and offer to sell you the planet. You’ll be given options of how much money to spend. You only get one offer before the gauge resets so  you have to think carefully about how much money you want to offer or they’ll reject you for being a cheapskate.

I've never gotten the hang of space warfare.  Or civilization age warfare.  It was always so much easier just to use religion or economics.  And how the hell is one ship capable of conquering a planet?  I wanna bust out Spore just to figure this out, but I might as well ask for some advice first.

Space Warfare is easy once you understand that it is a graphical representation of a MUCH more simple system.

The best way to fight in the Space stage against ships is to switch to missles, then move backwards while constantly spamming the fire. If you do it right you can destroy enemies without getting hit. Flying higher or lower to the ground is pointless by the way.

Enemy turrets are tough and I have found no effective way to really deal with them... Use health, forcefields, or just ignore turrets by using bombs high above the city. Do NOT fight them all at once unless you got some way of taking them.

At the end of the last update that was probably so recent that this recap is utterly pointless, we went to war against the Misti Empire because our dear captain hopped the border a few times too many. As you can see up in the above screenshot, when you go to war against an empire, red spheres form around their star systems telling you where their territory is, similarly green spheres appear around your allies. It…   can get ridiculous later on in the game when you meet a certain someone whom I’m pretty sure 3/4s of the people in this thread already know about. Anyways let’s get on with this.

I sold it to the Green Toads for a whopping 37,464 Sporebucks per unit nearly tripling out moneys. It turned out that the Toads also sold the minibomb upgrade for half the price of we Cutebolds so we of course, purchased it. Minibombs are good for use against buildings.

When a city’s warfare bar is filled up, they surrender. This fills up the planet’s bar by a fraction. Get them all and the planet is yours!

Aagh, those religious ones always annoyed me!
I think I might download Spore onto this computer, probably without my old saves.
Not like that's a problem, cell stage was always my favourite.

You should worship them. As two of the most powerful and useful abilities in the game are held by them if you convert to their way of living (Mass Conversion and Home Teleport)

Mind you with Galactic Adventures the need to is no longer there.

What is odd is originally the point of having a kingdom, according to some early information, was that traveling between owned star systems was faster.
