Cool  8)
Ukraine...
Best to avoid that, imo

There's nothing really to worry about there as long as he stays clear of the regions near Crimea.

Not quite sure if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread, but Chrome marks the Masterwork Beta patch download as suspicious and defaults to reporting and discarding it, citing it as a "suspicious and uncommon download."

Masterwork DF / Re: V.4i Henteldentebi - Kobold Submarine Challenge
« on: March 20, 2014, 08:01:38 pm »
The captain goes down with his ship.  Would it be possible to do another submarine fort but break your no traps rule just until the submarine part is actually set up?

Yeah, I'm thinking about it.
Sadly I have no idea, how to properly do it. This fortress survived the first year, because the coyote was swimming for half a year...
Even with weapontraps it is damn hard to stop the onslaught of animals... (as you require quite a number of traps). And setting it up requires time, which needs some lucky sea animal spawn... (but enough bones at first, to make the mechanisms and spikes)
I thought of using dedicated militia, with proper equipment, which should make short work of the animals, but would probably dodge into the sea...

best would be some way to wallin an animal to prevent further spawns.... Then it would be only the seasonal invaders, which are quite challenging, but may be possible to beat, when not spending more then half the time fighting animals and trying to recover from those...

But such a wallin is again difficult to do... Sure drawbridges, blabla... But first you have to get the blocks to build it, and then you need some time to build it, and then you have to actually catch an animal with it...

I can actually give you the unused world and you can try embarking on the location... You will have nightmares of coyotes, trust me....

Honestly, I think your best course of action would be to try another race- one which perhaps doesn't invoke the wrath of every sentient race simultaneously.
Gnomes would rid you of your wildlife problem, and orcs/dwarves/locks are much better suited to combat than bolds are.

I'd really love to see a unique challenge playthrough like this take off, but it seems that you're adding too much challenge as-is, even before you consider the submarine megaproject.

Masterwork DF / Re: Problem with shells
« on: February 23, 2014, 03:04:14 pm »
Nah, cant do nothing with crayfish shells... im dumping them and destroying them with dfhack :(

There are plenty of ways to dispose of items without having to resort to cheating. As mentioned, you could have them burned for ash, toss them into magma, use them as ammunition for traps, or just atom smaah them (Not recommended, as this simply visually hides them, instead of truly removing them- excess abuse can lead to irreversible lag.)

Eh, what the hell, sign me up for a turn with dorfs. What with all the masterwork !!FUN!! and all, it will likely be nearly impossible to make it more than a couple years.

EDIT: Questions, questions..

Are diseases enabled? Is the cult enabled? What limits are there on population, kids, etc? Can we recruit/use child soldiers/laborers via DT?

Diseases are disabled for the dwarves, as I played my turn when 4.d was still the latest version.

All secret fun is enabled, as per the norm.

Population/children caps are left at default.

I don't think it would be the best idea, as it seems that we were trying to keep the options as vanilla as possible.

ARGH WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE ROTTING LUNGS.

Warlocks, evil clouds/rain, black lung, warlocks, perhaps some of the new diseases, goblins who have taken a liking to stabbing in the chest, warlocks, a forgotten beast syndrome, or warlocks.

Quick Edit: Warlocks.

Pre-made is fine.  I'll get to it eventually, I'm fortress-swamped right now, so the pre-set embark would be good.
Save is up at http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8155.

And wow Carsius, that was fast.

Yeah, I wanted to get it out of my way before finals, which start tomorrow.

Plus, it was the first year. Nothing of note happened. I spent most of my time assuring my dwarves that Racoons were not, in fact, worthy of cancelling jobs over, though they refused to listen, forcing me to drop everything I was doing to activate my emergency militia (i.e. two miners with a few points in dodging and fighting, wielding battle picks) to kill the poor thing.

Well, that and my hunter decided he might be dwarf enough to take on a pack of drakes by himself.

Want me to get the embarks going, upload individual saves or just throw the whole package up? Each save is clearly marked, so it shouldn't be too hard to see which you are loading. And if you want me to start the embarks, what do you want?
If possible, I'd prefer to make the embark myself, but I wouldn't be opposed to you doing it, if it's easier or more convenient for you.

Looks like we have enough participation to get this running. I'm ready to start when you are, Durgress.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: QSP - minecart vs. zone?
« on: November 20, 2013, 11:59:19 am »
Setting the quantum stockpiles on fire seems like a bad idea.

But as far as I've seen, minecart-based QS' are superior to dump zones in almost every way. Less micro, and acts as a regular stockpile on top of that.

Masterwork DF / Re: any one else do this?

My standard kit for a legendary archeologist is a pistol, a whip, and a masterwork fur hat. (close as I could get to felt)

 :D

Nope. Never.
Might have something to do with me never having a legendary archaeologist, since they are completely useless their use is somewhat limited.

You might be able to reveal them with the DFhack feature command.

If you are just looking to see how much there is on the map, you can use "reveal helll", and it should say.

Just a warning, however- if you use this method, prepare for mass fps-lag from the HFS being revealed.
