I finally found the info I was looking for here.
It is often quite hard to find specific info on this wiki...

2
I have 2 Dwarf Rotten Slayers too.

This must be it, they died and the necromancer revived them.

3
Oh!
I do have a couple of necromancers. One of them is even in a squad!

So, you think it's a Cave Troll corpse reanimated by my necromancer?
So, what do I do with it? Is it dangerous? Can I give it orders?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Blind Cave Ogre Rotten Slayer: What is it?
« on: March 23, 2020, 01:25:57 pm »
Hi!
I am currently playing in Fortress Mode.
3 Blind Cave Ogres have infiltrated my fortress. I sent my squads to deal with them. After a while, in the unit list, two of the Ogres have gained names and their name is followed by "rotten slayer" and they are displayed in blue. As you can see here:

I have no clue what they are now. If I [View Unit] it describes severely injured cave ogres. Not a word about "rotten slayers".
Does someone know what happened to them?

Thanks in advance.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Necromancers age wrong
« on: March 19, 2020, 09:41:53 am »
Hi,
Two necromancer just arrived in my fortress with a migration wave.
There is something strange, the age given by the game is not correct.
Example, this one is born in year 6, we are currently at year 251, yet the game says she's only 87 years old. But she was born 245 years ago! That is very weird.

The other necromancer has the same "problem". He's born in year 9, so younger then the other and he's supposedly older, 138 years old, which is still far from 242 years old...

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Navigate Settlements
« on: November 25, 2019, 04:58:23 pm »
So, I am new to Adventure Mode, and I find it very difficult to navigate settlements.

I can find my way in a Dwarf fortress (because I found a good guide on that), but human hamlets and elf forest retreats are harder.

I was on my way to a forest retreat to deal with criminals there, but when I got on site, I found only a forest. Lots of trees, I climbed to the canopy, got back on the ground, climbed another tree, and so on for quite a while and no sign of civilization. So I gave up and went to the nearest settlement that was not a forest retreat: A human settlement.

I got there, got in the first house for some info about a bandit I had heard about. The guy I asked told me that an other guy in the mead hall would know the location I was seeking. So I went all around the hamlet, looking for maybe a house with some tables and chairs? But all the houses are the same, no furniture to differentiate them. Am I suppose to ask in every house if this is the mead hall?

I am quite lost, and I think maybe Adventure Mode is not for me.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: How to find lair
« on: November 24, 2019, 05:26:41 pm »
Thank you all!

I got detailed instructions and found the lair easily. Unfortunately, I was no match for the giantess. I died very fast (which was not very surprising).

but make sure you didn't just locate the lair in legends but also got someone in the game to give you detailed directions.

Oh! That's what I need then! In-Game directions from an NPC, thanks.
Do I have to ask someone specific or can anybody tell me? Because I asked 2 people and they were vague. They were less precise than the legends viewer.

Anyway, back to the fortress, then.

The entrance to a lair can be really hard to spot sometimes. A single tile heading downwards in amongst all the grass. You could try looking for tracks and see if they lead anywhere. Otherwise write it off as a possible error (underground lair built without an entrance? Not improbable.

Hopefully something to be improved in the user friendliness arc.

Ok, so a downward slope is what I'm looking for? That's a problem since I'm in a very mountainous terrain. There's slopes everywhere xD I tried looking for tracks (btw tracker is way too easy to lvl up, I was Master Tracker, don't know how, and after like 8 minutes at looking around for tracks I ended up Grand Master Tracker xD), but nothing for now.

In the upper left corner, there's a compass displaying the nearest site. Look for the one highlighted in white, that means it's really close - NS/WE stands for directions (obviously)

I understand how the compass work. Nothing is near, I tried to follow a few of the locations on the compass, but I just gor far away from the place the Legends Viewer sent me to. Also, lairs are supposed to be displayed by a [•] character. I only have [Æ], [µ] and [Ω] on my compass. Here's my compass

Thanks for the help.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / How to find lair
« on: November 13, 2019, 04:49:22 pm »
Hi!

I am new to Adventure mode.
After training my adventurer and purchasing equipment I decided to look for a giant (not sure I'm capable of handling it, but I won't know until I try) that has stolen an artifact of my civilization. I looked the beast in Legends Viewer. Legends Viewer tells me where the giant's lair is, so I travelled all the way over there, but I can't find it precisely. The Legends Viewer also gives me a X,Y position, but I don't know how to use it.
I read somewhere that the location of a lair should appear at the top-right corner of the screen when I am near, but it didn't appear yet, even though I searched the area.

There must be something I'm missing. Where is that lair?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Readability in Preference Customization

Thank you!
I just tried it (no need for a launcher, just edit a .txt file) and now the light grey of the selected item looks slightly blueish. More readable for me.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Readability in Preference Customization
« on: November 10, 2019, 04:12:15 pm »
Hi!

I haven't played in years, and I wanted to come back and try Adventurer mode. However, I encounter a little problem with character creation, the colors of preferences customizer. I am colorblind, so maybe that's why, but I can barely see which setting is selected, I torture my eyes to see the difference between light grey et very slightly lighter grey symbols on each line. Moreover if I select one row, everything is slightly lighter again in that row and I absolutely can't see which column is selected. It is very annoying.

Here's a screen
So, my question is: Is there an utility or something to make this more readable?

Thanks for reading me.

Oh! Who dared do that? People are so impolite.

Thanks for the tip, I'll watch more carefully where I'm going.

You were right! I was crawling, thank you!
Now this raised the question: Why was I crawling? I'm sure I never hit shift+S...
