Other Games / Re: Wurm Online

The big difference between Unlimited and Online was the mods in Unlimited. People added features that were in online only, but they worked and weren't half-baked like they had been implemented in online.  Also, some mods people made in unlimited ended up as features in online at some point.

I haven't played either since support on Unlimited was dropped, but I had way more fun as a Wurm vet on servers without priest restrictions, and increased skill gain and decreased timers.  I just don't have time for the grind.

I'm seeing a review that expresses concern with a save system that doesn't work. I usually see that as a Red Flag in games.
How old is that review?  There was an update that changed the save system in October that some people had problems with.

I'm going to keep watching this one.  It has some good bones and just needs time to be fleshed out.

Being overpowered is every build in Cyberpunk.

You just choose your flavor of murder to master.

Evolve is made to be restarted multiple times.  Even though I only did 2 MADs before I did a Geneseed restart before I slogged to a universe restart.  It was the wrong choice and took a long time to accomplish.  I learned when I came back to the game to just do a bunch of MADs, then some Geneseeds to get plasmids and also get achievements.

Evolve really rewards people who stick with the game for months and restart often.  So many races to play, so many worlds with random challenges, so many different universes, dimensional challenge runs.

Just need to restart early, and often.

At least the default install of windows 11 doesn't think every computer is a tablet or a laptop with a touch screen.

The issue is that Windows 11 has an immovable taskbar in the bottom, so you can't see the bottom of things.
????
Right-click the bar, Taskbar Settings, Taskbar Behaviors(bottom). From there can either move the bar, or set to hide.

Just 2 more clicks deeper into pointless menus from previous versions of the OS.  A total improvement in UI.

You can change the setting of all buildings at once from the building overview, each tab covering different building types.  Not great if you want to manage per territory but great when new tech unlocks to apply to all farms/factories at once.  Was a requirement for my Industrialize China play through.

Also yeah, would be nice if there was more info on who would accept what deal when.  You can get that for each deal quickly from the diplo screen per individual nation.  Which is fine if you are trying to work on individual nations diplomatically and not going for a specific deal type irregardless of the target nation.

I also ran into an amusing bug where a 4th player joined, but the bot they replaced stuck around.
Accidental temporary pet class.

As soon as you hit level 2 it gives you an objective in the lobby to visit the armory.

Also, the DLC is optional content released over years of support for their games.  It is expanding the life and content of a single game.  They could be on CK 8, or EU 13, instead we get several $15-$20 optional DLC that you can buy if you want.

I've played "modern" Paradox grand strategies with and without DLCs.  I prefer the DLCs because it's MORE, never been dissatisfied playing without though.

Also not forced to buy the DLCs, ever.  I get some when ever I decided to pick a game up again.  Just adds more replay to a game I like already.

The only reason to call any Paradox DLC mandatory is if there is a mechanic in the DLC that you want to play with, which is a you/me problem.  Not a problem with the base game.

The game does have a setting for how aggressive the AI is with the player with diplomacy.

Setting it higher means they oppose you more, setting it lower means they ignore/support you more.

OK, can someone explain to me how battles work? I've been invading Persia and every time I try, I lose. I have more men and a greater offensive score than their defensive score. Despite this, they're routinely mopping the floor with me.
Battles start before the war by trying to destabilize your opponent's economy.  Namely, trying to remove their access (or just raising the costs of) sulfur or steel/iron.

They can't fight you with better numbers and guns if they don't have bullets or guns.

It's nice that PD lasers can be refit to small combat lasers, refitting my fleet's escorts at my new Saturn yards after hitting alien bases in the belt, so they'll be able to put a few shots into enemy ships that fly through our ranks.

Not going to have any issues with exotics after getting 300 from using marines to destroy just an asteroid orbital and hab.  Marines can't take alien bases, but I think you get better loot and you capture aliens alive.  For what that's worth.

Currently confused on the point of terawatt level drives, though.  The drives and reactors are fine, but radiators still are built by the gigawatt.

My current Z-pinch II with 6 triton pulse drive equipped dreads have an acceleration of ~12 miliGs and built to have a DV of 120 and come in at 24kt.  Swap them out for ICF terawatt I and 3 daedalus torchs and they come in at 22kt.  I think the acceleration was 16 miliGs and 440 DV, before I added the radiators.  With the radiators they balloon to 98kt and ~2.5 miliGs.  Still researching down both ICF and hybrid fusion because I know there are better drives at the end of their tech trees but I don't know if they are worth getting.

Edit: Alright yeah, TW IFC III drops the weight of the ship to 19kt and allows 6 drives.  And 40 tanks give 2.1k DV, bit more than we need.

I def see combat getting overhauls in the future from the free patches that come with major DLC.  Along with more features within those DLC for combat.

I like the combat though, it's a more hands-off version of the HOI4 combat.  Fits with the setting, and a lot less micromanagey.

A common playbook for those who want to liberalize is to create a class of wealthy capitalists (wealth = power) which form a secondary powerbase and then try to gradually pass reforms to erode the power of the aristocrats- replacing feudal levies with a centrally controlled army (empowering the Army), replacing hereditary bureaucrats with those appointed by merit (empowering the Intelligentsia), and eventually ending Serfdom (which totally wrecks the power of the Aristocrats)
Or you can do the opposite and make the Kingdom Of Texas.

First few battles with my 100% laser fleet.  Took 1 hit in the first battle against one of the few aliens fleets around earth when their destroyer raced into my fleet firing missiles and one missile got through.  Then lost a pair of dreads against a major alien fleet because their Mothership rammed them, after it ran out of ammo.

Hull mounted laser batteries all can do PD, so my dreads with 2 heavy phaser batteries fire twice every 10 seconds against incoming missiles and cannon rounds.  Almost nothing gets through the 12 of them with 16 escort monitors armed with 4 PD lasers.  Next generation I swapped 1 heavy battery for 2 medium to get more PD shots from each dread, not going to make more PD screen ships until they better explain the fleet layouts, so I don't get another deployment with dreads on one side of the battle and the toothless monitors on the other.

My fleet may be a little big, but I love popping enemy ships that charge in before their missiles and most of their cannon shots get in range, and then the rest of the alien fleet tries to stay out of range, until they run out of ammo.  Once they run out low on ammo they stray into range and start taking quick losses when the hit scan instant strike 100% accurate lasers tear into them.

Only problem so far has been alien stations.

Not even using UV lasers yet, just green phasers.
