Some odd behavior by the local strays. They just stand at the doors head-bumping each other.

Toady lives! I was a little worried.

Those weak, tireless ones may not be able to do much lifting, but they can talk your ear off all day.

Dik Ethlalquogub, "Dik Showercreams"

Chasms are a potentially underground feature: they can often only be found through digging rather than exploring. As such, your adventurer isn't going to have much luck, but you might consider building a fortress there if you really want to see a chasm.

It's actually carp, tigerfish, milkfish, stingrays, maybe one other kind of fish, unicorns, elephants, hippos, and satyrs. The fish will attack any non-fish that get near the river, and it's almost impossible to cross the river without getting attacked by fish. I've had adventurers drown in the river despite knowing how to swim because of the sheer number of fish literally on top of them. The unicorns and elephants usually shrug off the fish attacks, but they do eventually bleed to death, and the satyrs die just as quickly as the elvish peasants. Because of the way armor piles are scattered after you leave the map, the entire area is littered with rope reed socks and gloves. Haven't seen the hippos fight anyone but elves so far.

Seems a stalemate. The fish have numbers, the beasts have strength and toughness, and there seems to be no end to either of them. Whoever wins, the Elves lose, that's for sure.

That poor druid.

I couldn't walk a single step without reading two or three pages of text.

Will my meatshields ever pick up weapons or armor? I've got an axeman right now who lost his axe in a fight, and even though I've presented him with axes every way I can think of, he just ignores them.

I'd like to mention, I didn't spend a lot of time getting myself to high throwing and sneaking skills. That just seems 1)not fun and 2)excessively exploitative of the broken throwing system.

I think I was at about 14 sneaking skill just from looking around a few caves. Most of my kills were by axe, so I think my throwing skill was at about 7 or 8. The dragon was hunting mountain goats at the time; I was honestly expecting to be spotted and end up like the goats - face down in a pile of ash.

I was throwing coins because I ran out of turtle shells.

I've only seen a spider announce himself for a quest... the fun part was that I got the quest because the spider had killed my previous adventurer. Are you sure you didn't have a quest for the spider, and just forgot about it?

Another odd thing is that the spider doesn't really announce himself, it just says

quote:
Giantspider stands before you!
Giantspider...<killed>
Giantspider...<killed>

...or something like that. I guess because spiders can't talk.

I guess this town is fat and happy:

Gebbisuram, "The Momentous Tummies"
This artwork appears on an iron shield.
It is a finely-designed image of humans in cougar leather.

Well, it's not quite as cool at Haunting Whispers of Forgotten Dead, but my most recent Elven Swordsman is named Famime Starsnarled the Silence of Incense. The title was acquired by accidentally attacking one of my fellow elves, having my entire (all-elven) party turn against me, and being forced to slay all five.

EDIT: Oh cool! Someone decorated a halberd with my image!
