DF General Discussion / Re: 50.10 missing keyboard controls?
« on: October 20, 2023, 04:02:59 am »
I miss the old keyboard controls as well. Is there a chance for a mod to solve this?

Hello Everyone,

It has come to my attention that Dwarf Fortress has received a mere 21 votes on IMDB Games , a count that truly does not reflect the exceptional quality of this game. In my opinion, and I am not alone in this sentiment, Dwarf Fortress deserves a spot in the top 10 list of all games ever created. The depth and intricacy it offers are unparalleled, providing an experience that goes beyond the conventional gaming landscape.

Spread the word, cast your votes, and let's see Dwarf Fortress rightfully claim its position among the gaming elite.

I was mining some gems in the caverns and suddenly I got the message bellow:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

What's this all about?
The icon doesn't foreshadow that some terrible things will happen or does it...? D:

DF Gameplay Questions / Confusion around Jobs
« on: December 11, 2022, 04:54:02 am »
I am a bit confused with the stoneworking jobs changes. Is the following correct?

Stonecutter

make furniture at the stoneworkers Worshop

Stonerafter
work at the craftsdwarf Shop

Masons

build constructions like walls, floors etc. (not sure about that one)

Engraver
engrave and carve floors and walls

Stonecarver
Smooths Walls and Floors

Also, which job does gets furniture set up?

edit: Correction

I just logged in to say that I've paid, easily, £1000 for this game over the years and I paid for it on Steam, again, and gleefully. I even bought the soundtrack. And I'm Deaf.
This post made me laugh hahaha
People like you are the blood in the veins of Dwarf Fortress.

Maybe you remember that there was someone that was interested in trying to make a 2D real time version of Cataclysm.
It's called Nearly Dead and on itch.io you can give a try to an open beta :

trailer : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0Rb0fjcEi4
so much potential there.
Holy shit, this looks great! I'd drop a coin or two for this.

Edit: I don't know if I like the realtime gameplay, though

1. Any chance we get a GOG release?

This has been addressed elsewhere by Kitfox Games, who have been engaged to handle these sorts of details.

They said basically that they weren't opposed to the idea, but already had extensive connections with itch.io and Steam, but none with GOG.

I like GOG myself, as I'm a fan of retro games they often sell for cheap, but I don't really care where I buy DF. Is there any particular reason you have for wanting to buy it from GOG that I could pass on to Kitfox?
I buy my games preferably on GOG because I like em DRM free. There is no guarantee what happends to my library if steam goes bankrupt or will be bought by somebody else. Unlikely but possible.

2. Will it be visually perceptible if a creature is hurt or will it be shown what body parts are injured/missing?
We have already seen footages of guts so yes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LaVZn2QKuA&list=PLcOt9GXNrkgiejOzLVHGU8ra8VwAv0Knw&index=3&ab_channel=Blind

Thank you!

I might use that. Great concept!

Nobles in Rim world? I'm in. It seems overpriced, though. But I have over 500 hours in Rimworld so I wouldn't mind supporting the devs.

DF General Discussion / Re: PeridexisErrant's DF Starter Pack
« on: February 22, 2020, 11:37:33 am »
(I did not compile it, it was thurin using the indivisible patch. I just kept asking competent people until it happened! ;) )

Can I override PeridexisErrant's latest alpha Starter Pack's files with those files you provided and continue onward with its installation as instructed to enable TWBT?

That should work fine as far as DF/DFhack/TWBT are concerned, but I'm not certain whether this Alpha Starter Pack will recognize it's installed.

It's discussed here.

It's worth a try, I'd think!

I'll save you a click:

"[...] copy twbt.plug.DLL from DF/hack/plugins, and set printmode to TWBT in the init.txt in /data/init"

Yeeah! Thanks Perry!

That was very interesting to read. You are sick in the head. In a positive way.
May I assume that the test subject was an  elf?

I'd also second JA2 as a great one.
JA 2 with the Mod 1.13 is one of the greatest games of all time.
